Pleasant smoke but too mild for me
I’ve smoked two bowls of this and it’s just not flavorful enough to me. If you love burley, you will probably enjoy this very much. I think after this blend and another straight burly I tried elsewhere, I’ve realized that i am not a burley-forward smoker, but I absolutely love burley in my blends. The flavor really doesn’t come through to me until you in the last third of the bowl. It just kind of has this watery taste to it almost like a very plain average quality leaf straight Virginia can. I find that the bit of Virginia and dark fired peak through only mildly to the point that they only really show up as the bowl is progressed through. I tried it rubbed out with about 10 minutes drying time, and then I tried fold and stuff with no drying time. Definitely moisture in the bowl with a gurgle in both smokes. I am aging the rest of my tin, and will revisit it in another year or more. It was a pleasant mild smoke otherwise , but way too mild for my tastes. I much prefer HH old dark fired for heavy flavor and more nuanced flavor.

HH Burley Flake
It has taken me a bit to come to terms with the fact that I really like burley tobacco. For many years I have enjoyed black coffee and peanut butter toast in the morning. It’s a thing. There is a way that this flake both lingers a bit and cuts the right amount on my palate. I have found that rubbing out the flakes works best for me. I have smoked this in both cob and briar. Both enjoyable. So, so easy to jar this up. Neat and tidy to travel with too.

High Quality Burly
This is a fine Burly blend. The tin was well sealed and content was of excellent quality. The Burly was in case when I opened it and made for pleasantly satisfying smoke straight to the pipe. It had smooth chestnut flavor.

A pleasant surprise
I typically prefer VaPers and medium English blends but was curious about burley, especially in a flake. That curiosity paid off. The HH Burley Flake is a smooth burning, cool smoke, perfect for gentle and contemplative puffing. There is a subtle but definite sweet cocoa taste. As a bonus, it pairs great with my morning cups of Breakfast Blend Community Coffee. i bought the one pound box and will order another when it's about half gone.

Very good burley flake for my mornings. Pairs really well with my first and second cup of coffee. Good quality smoke with the strength to get you going. May not be for everyone, but I like the punch it packs.

Favorite
My absolute favorite blend. Rich, smooth and just the right kick. Has a wonderful chocolate note both in taste and scent, but not in a sweet or goopy aromatic sense. Perfect out of any size pipe.

Not for me, thanks
I rarely dislike a flake but this is one I am not keen on. I was expecting the nutty flavor of Burley with a fair amount of Virginia to set it off. At first the smoke seemed mild but soon it turned strong and threatened the Burley bite. I am smoking the rest with a good admixture of Va. Disappointing and not cheap, either.

Nutty high quality burley
This ain't your grand pappy's burley. It's not the cheap ribbon cut drugstore stuff. This is steam pressed burley flake with dark fired Kentucky and Virginia. I'm not one to taste all of the constituent tobaccos, but I can say that this is a good solid burley flake, nutty in nature. Won't bite and burns nice but might need some dry time. I prefer this to ODF because it's lighter in nic. Be careful though, if you smoke a lot of it especially back to back you can feel it. I'm going to get a pound of it in due time. BTW I'm not usually a burley smoker. I smoke Va's and VaPer's, English/Balkan, and some quality MacBaren vanilla blends. I like a pipe of ODF on occasion t night. This fills in the gaps nicely.

Six stars!
Not much needs to be said, here. Just a wonderful, thinly-sliced flake of one of the most rich and satisfying Burley-forward tobaccos I've ever had the pleasure of smoking. The tin note is a nearly perfect mirror of the the tobacco's flavor: deep fresh-baked bread, roasted nuts, and cocoa. Sweet Virginia leaf plays a supporting roll, but keeps mostly to itself, resulting in an unusually mellow and bite-free smoke. In the basement, the dark fired Kentucky lends a bit of its own sweet, spicy, and vinegary umami. The dark and full flavor of this tobacco implies that it's got some age on it, and that seems to have deepened the flavors. A perfect accompaniment to coffee and black tea, this is likely to become a Burley lovers dream in the morning hours. Some may be tempted to compare this blend to Solani Aged Burley Flake, but this is a mistake in my view. It's better to recognizing this HH flake for what it is--a terrific and soothing Burley smoke in its own right, with its own distinct and delicious character.

Worth It!!
The burley provides flavors of cocoa and nuts. The hay and citrus from the Virginias, for me, was just in the background. My favorite part was the deep rich flavor from the dark fired Kentucky. It is a cool, smooth smoke from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Very burley burley
My personal desert island blend. A bit sweet, slight chocolate notes, smokes very well if given a short period to dry out of the tin. Powerful enough to let you know you had nicotine, but not so powerful it couldnt be enjoyed all day. Also one of the few burley blends that completely avoid a fragrant note of barnyard.

Delicious, fantastic and nutty. Very earthy, felt as if you were walking through the woods while smelling the nuts of the trees

Nice smoke. House approved (with air purifier running) I had a little trouble keeping it lit... But that was my fault (lazy rub-out).

This is good stuff. It pretty much fits the description. It was perhaps slightly dry in the tin but not too dry. This is a winner.

Just enough sweetness and a delicious burley with no bite, it’s in my rotation now and will buy more. All the H&H series are superb tobaccos

Great all around flake!
Those of you who have been around for a while know that Lane, & Laurus & Brother Edgeworth Flake (introduced in 1903) was considered the epitome of Burley flake. This sample is as close as they come to the Edgeworth Flake of yesteryear. Nutty, woody & earthy Burley, combined with tangy, fruity, citrusy, & sweet Virginias and Just enough Dark Fired Kentucky to elevate and provide some interesting nuances. Delicious!

A great burley flake
This is an exceptional product. It smokes very well and is flavorful fro start to finish. Very well balanced between sweet and tangy. However I bought some Amphora burley and I cannot tell them apart; Is STG simply rebranding blends? If so, just buy the Amphora and save half the price.

Great Tobacco
Excellent blend by itself, but i like to blend it 50/50 with GL Pease Embarcadero with a dash of perique for what i would consider my perfect blend, I highly recommend this.

Burley Bomb
This has the flavor that all natural burley smokers are after. I happen to be in that crowd. The Kentucky leaf is not shy and spices it up just right.

Burley-licious!
I wanted to get to this blend to try it for a long time. I finally got a nice 100 g. tin as part of my winter stash. Upon opening the tin, you'll see the gold paper flaps, and within layers of beautiful dark flakes. Very nice presentation. The tin note is earthy and a little nutty, as would be expected of a burley blend. There is Virginia in this as well as some Dark Fired Kentucky. I cannot really detect either of these in the tin note, but my nose for tin/pouch/baggie notes has never been that good. You may be able to separate these better than I can. The flakes have just about the right moisture content for me, but others might find a few minutes drying time is in order. I always use the fold and stuff method and the flakes load and pack easily. A char-light, tamp, re-light, and it's off to the races. I could immediately taste burley and the Dark Fired. Lots of nuttiness and something rather dark in flavor, which I find hard to describe. Maybe a bit like bbq sauce and beef. Must be the DFK. Nice, mellow, full-bodied smoke. Wonderful mouth feel. Very creamy. The Virginia becomes more evident as the bowl progresses. It provides that little bit of sweetness which gives this blend very good balance, but the Virginia is very much in the back seat. This blend is never harsh. In fact, it is surprisingly mild. The nicotine seems moderate to me, and I have a medium nicotine tolerance. I could really smoke this all day long, if I wanted to. This blend requires few relights and is very well-behaved. I use the sipping method to smoke this one. Go easy with it, and it will provide lots of burley flavor. I experienced no bite whatsoever. I've smoked this in a MM Country Gentleman corn cob, a Nording, and my small, thin-walled meerschaum. Very good in all, but it really shines in the cob for me. Excellent blend and I recommend it highly to everyone. Even if you aren't crazy about burleys, give this one a try. Well done Mac Baren!

The perfect straight tobacco
I avoided this for a long time because I didn't think of myself as a burley lover, but boy was I wrong! I'm glad I finally tried it, because it's easily in my top 3 or 4 tobaccos. If you're a Virginia fan, I think you'll still like it because it does have a nice sweetness to it (but not too sweet). I know this is a weird thing to say, but this tastes the most like what I imagine straight tobacco to be - like this is what tobacco tastes like and everything else is a variation of this. It is extremely high in nicotine (about the same as Peterson Irish Flake), but it's also got a lot of flavor so you can go light and slow and still get a lot of flavor out of it. This is one of the few that still come in the nice square tins, and that's good because I always like to keep a tin in the front pocket of my Levi jacket -- since I crave this stuff so often.

A great burley
This flake is probably the best burly blend I've smoked. Mac Barron HH series has always been at the top of my list and this tobacco just adds to that list. Great smoke, I've bought a few tins so I can have it hand.

Pipe Smoker for over 50 years.
I am not a professional tobacconist but have enjoyed smoking pipe tobacco since graduating from college over 50 years ago. I have tried dozen(s) of domestic and foreign pipe tobaccos over the years but always seem to return to the fine Mac Baron family tobaccos. The notable exception was when an advertising executive introduced me to the Balkan Sobranie Original Smoking Mixture (BSOSM) on an American flight to New York in 1969. It was truly a magnificent, rich Latakia experience but, unfortunately, the company mysteriously quit blending BSOSM and was subsequently sold to another group in the mid-80s. My favorite tobacco these days is Mac Baron’s Burley Flake. I enjoy smoking a half bowl in my favorite Peterson pipe around 4:00-ish each afternoon while sipping on a wee dram of single malt scotch or small brandy. Occasionally I’ll add a pinch or two of Latakia Flake when I fondly recall the nostalgic Balkan Sobranie days. Enjoy !

Delicious Burley
Mac Baren just does everything right. This Burley flake smells buttery out of the tin and when burning in a pipe it tastes of nutty, buttery, mellow tobacco. It's well rounded flavor and light mellow smoke make it a perfect all day smoker.

well balanced. Not to to heavy on the nicotine, as some burly flakes but satisfying none the less. the flake burns well so as to not be super bitey. edging into the rotation.

Masterful
Very pleased. Tin note hint of apple butter sounds crazy but that's what i smelled. Flakes were perfect out of tin and well packaged. Balanced smoke. The dark Kentucky does give it some complexity and the Virginias give it some sweetness. Definitely will purchase again. Bravo Mac Baren HH tobacconist!

Burley Flake, a dream come true!
A Burley Flake, is a dream come true! I have smoked Mac Barens' Burley on and off for years and I prefer flake tobaccos. Mac Barens' Burley Flake was ready to smoke right out of the can. Beautifully sliced with an earthy aroma. The smoke is fairly mild with a nutty, natural flavor with no hint of topping. The aroma is pleasant but non obtrusive. The Dark fired Kentucky and the Virginia add a balance to the whole taste and smell. This flake will be a permanent addition to my smoking pleasure.

Burley Flake, a dream come true!
A Burley flake is a dream come true for me. I have smoked Mac Baren Burley on and off for years along with their Virginias. I love the natural, nutty taste of this flake that is well balanced with the Dark fired and Virginia mix. This is a mild smoke with a pleasant aroma and no tongue bite. As usual, this Mac Baren is ready to smoke right out of the tin. This Burley Flake will be one of my regular tobaccos to enjoy with others.
