Every blender seems to have a different interpretation of what "navy flake" means. Mac Baren Classic Navy Flake is one of the smoothest and easiest-smoking versions of this traditional tobacco style. Superior quality Burleys are combined with sweet Virginias and some of Mac Baren's fabled Cavendish and finished with a splash of rum and a touch of honey before pressing. Then the tobacco is sliced into beautiful golden flakes that are easy to prepare and delivers a silky-sweet flavor you can enjoy morning, noon, and night.
Opening the tin is like opening an expensive gift. You are presented with beautifully wrapped tightly pressed flakes and the tin note is incredible delicious. I stuffed 1/2 flake into a very small cob that usually gives me about 15 to 20 minutes with other tobaccos but this burned on and on, it felt like 45 minutes. I wasn't expecting such a wonderful flavor, slightly sweet and fruity, with no bite at all (unusual for Mac Baron). This is a perfect 10, stock up on this one.
My first experience with a flake-style tobacco, and I do believe I've struck gold. The tin note is delicious; I had to restrain myself from eating it. Figs, honey, and a bit of light molasses. The smoke has a different profile, but very much in the same spirit- rich tobacco, brown sugar, and just a hint of dark fruitiness through the nose. It isn't overbearingly sweet to the palate, but richly sweet in a very " round" sort of way, if that makes any sense. Burned all the way to the heel after 1 hour dry time and fold/stuff preparation. The 3.5 ounce tin should last a while, but i went ahead and ordered a pound to cellar and age. Exemplary service from an outstanding comapny as well.
Mac Baren's Navy Flake is one of my top 5 tobaccos. IT"S JUST GREAT STUFF!!! I personally use the fold and roll technique and then put a few small pieced of rubbed out flake on top to help with the initial lighting. The smell of this tobacco in the tin is heavenly.
Love it! Ive only smoked one flake so far and I can already tell its going to be a mainstay. Im definitely going to keep a few tins on hand.
This is my new go to. It's a great smoke, smooth, with just about the right touch of rum to finish it. Absolutely delightful smoke with no bite.
P&C cash is exactly that. Cash you get to spend the way you want. Pipes, tobacco, tools - you name it and you can use it towards your purchase.
