MacQueen Ashwood Pipes

Ash is known for three things- durability, light color and distinctive grain. MacQueen makes a whole series of wooden stemmed churchwardens and semi-churchwardens with this attractive and hardy wood. Now I know why it's so hard to find a good baseball bat anymore.

A Fine Niche Pipe
Well this pipe is pretty much exactly what I was expecting: a very nice, high quality replica of the sort of pipe Bilbo Baggins used in the movie adaptations of the Hobbit. Even if it wasn't fully functional I would enjoy having it for this alone and use it as a showpiece, but it does work wonderfully in normal pipe usage. Granted, I haven't used it long enough to judge its durability, but so far I can say that it holds up well and draws very nicely. The only real drawbacks that I can point out is that the bowl is just a touch too loose, and that the standard pipe filters I usually keep in the house do not fit this pipe. These issues are easily able to be worked around though, so all in all it's a very solid pipe if you're looking for what it's advertising, and well worth the price.

Definitely worth it
Smokes wonderfully. Ordered from P&C and pipe was shipped timely and in good condition. Had a little quality problem which Pipes and Cigars rectified by sending me a new pipe! Bowl feels great in the hand, stem is a pleasure to draw from, and the overall experience if quite calming and magical. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants a churchwarden, wood stem, or just a great pipe

great pipe until the stem broke
A few days into smoking my new pipe, and I noticed a crack in the stem, right along the metal shank insert. Waiting on a reply from P&C as to what I should did

Well done, for not a lot.
A decent long stem pipe with an old-school kind of feel. The pipe and stem become well stuck together with heat and humidity, and the pipe feels lighter than one would initially think, but for the money spent its a fine smoker with a pleasant draw.

Halfling Pipe
Love the rustic feel of this Pipe. The draw from the long stem of this pipe took some getting used to...but it provides an excellent smoke for sitting in contemplation.

Different Smoking Experience Takes Getting Used To
Well made pipe. Stem rotated a little, but a tiny bead of wood glue keeps it in place. Even made a little stand for it. Pros: light weight, keeps smoke away from face, easy to pack, easy to clean, cooler smoke than my other pipes Cons (both take getting used to): wood stem leaves taste in mouth while smoking, harder to get good draw than my other pipes

Different Smoking Experience akes getting used to
Well made, but stem rotated. Just a tiny bead of wood glue is all it took to hold it firm. Pros: light weight, easy to pack, easy to light, easy to clean, cooler smoke than my other pipes Cons: wood stem leaves a taste in your mouth while smoking, little harder to get a good draw than my other pipes

I wish it smoked better. I leaks where the stem and bowl join

Love the pipe! Does the stem come out? If not, do you have pipe cleaners long enough to ream that long stem?

I love my macqueen ashwood.
I give it 5 stars.

Had to return it.
The pipe seemed great when I got it. Looked very nice, had a good feel to the wood, comfortable to hold. Unfortunately, the stem was loose in the bowl - so much so that I was worried about the two pieces coming apart while smoking. I contacted P&C customer support about this, and they gave me some suggestions to try. They didn't work, and I decided to return the pipe. P&C didn't have any more in stock and were unable to order more, so I got a refund. I'm guessing I just happened to get a bad pipe and that others are of much better production. I'm hoping to order another MacQueen Ashwood at some point in the future.

The Halfling is Awesome!
I love this pipe! I love how it's entirely made of wood (a fairly soft wood). It feels so old-fashioned. It has two pieces that connect, a wooden stem that easily screws inside a wooden bowl. That's it. No shank or anything. Pretty awesome actually. It helps that I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan. This is one of my favorite pipes, and I've been eyeing the others for a while, trying to resist the urge to get another one, perhaps the White Wizard.

MacQueen Seafarer
Purchased this pipe for a friend for Christmas simply as a cosplay piece and he loves it! In all honesty he's lucky he got it, as soon as I opened it I debated keeping it for myself. Looks great and fits together well, great draw and feel in the hand. Almost seems a shame for someone who will never smoke it to own it.

The Prospector
I love my Prospector! I use it as my "porch pipe", and it always delivers a cool, dry smoke. I think it is easy to clean and maintain, the bowl never gets hot, and the flavor (after only 2-3 bowl break-in) is outstanding. I highly recommend this pipe. I also had the Ranger, but the bit was a bit too large for my liking; although, it smoked well also. The value of these pipes is unbelievable.

A Hit for LOTR-loving Fiance
Disclaimer: This is my first time buying a pipe, so my experience is extremely limited. I ordered the MacQueen Seafearer pipe and was happy to receive it in a timely manner. I had a very good experience with customer service when I called to say that the stem was bent to the right side away from the bowl. I didn't realize that the stem and bowl are detachable for easier cleaning, so it was just a matter of twisting the stem into position. Fiance was very happy to receive the "Gandalf-looking" pipe for his birthday. I was directed to Pipes and Cigars by a friend and would shop here again!

Pipe from another realm
Being new to the pipe smoking community, this pipe is great for relaxing with. It is easy to clean and assemble with tight joint at the bowl. The one complaint that I have about this pipe is that the stain is starting to disappear about 1.5 inches from the end from use. All in all even with the stain dissipating at the end I would still recommend this to someone as a first pipe to your collection or as your 30th pipe.
Customer Testimonials
I ordered the Prospector. Visually, the pipe is beautiful, very rustic look which I like. Came pre-carbonized which I don't mind either. I consider myself an aggressive smoker yet I was surprised by how cool the bowl was for not being briar. The smoke it delivers is very cool and dry. Great for relaxing or if you have a blend that tends to smoke a little hot.

I only smoked the Mistral once. It's a beautiful pipe. The stem is easily removed, it provides a cool smoke, and the bowl is thickly layered and stays cool if smoked conservatively. The only problem I have with the pipe is the bowl size. The most you'll get out of it is around 30-45 minutes. 2.5/4 stars

I have three MacQueen pipes now, the "White Wizard", the "Dragon's Agg" and the "Goblet Pipe" (and yes, Dragon's "AGG" is spelled correctly, my keyboard just doesn't have the two little dots to put over the A). These are fantastic smoking pipes, although I did put end caps on to avoid teeth marks. I ordered the stand for the White Wizard to display it as it is as makes a wonderful conversation piece; and it looks even better in ones hand than it does in the photo. These pipes are well worth the money and easy to break-in. I enjoy smoking the Churchwarden pipes and these are my favorite. The biggest problem with them is choosing which one I want to smoke. I will definitely be adding more to my collection.

Just purchased my 2nd MacQueen pipe, first one being the cherry wood Ranger that I was well pleased with but developed 2 slight cracks in the stem causing a leak preventing a solid smoke which motivated me to get another pipe, the Seafarer ! And to say the least I am impressed, the weight is solid and fits well in the hand, the bowl and stem are well made and it smokes great, I am now a fan of ash wood, fellow pipe smokers if you haven't smoked from an all wood pipe you are missing out, sure I have a traditional plastic stem pipe I keep in my car for smoking but cant wait to return home for the warmth and relaxation of my MacQueens
