Good Smoke
I occasionally smoked the original Briggs back in the '60's and early '70's. It was never my go-to blend but one that I would sometimes pick-up at the corner drug store. Other blends that shared the same status with me at the time were Union Leader, Dills Best, Bond Street, etc. I don't remember how any of them tasted but I would occasionally go back to them. What I do remember about the original Briggs is that it was not a ribbon cut like the Match Briggs is and the original would bite my tongue which the Match Briggs does not do. The Match Briggs is a good smoke for all day. Does not bite but burns a bit too fast for my liking. It has a slightly sweet flavor and a room note that is wife approved. Not much not to like about this tobacco and I will definitely by it again.

A really nice straight forward
A really nice straight forward burley blend. Easy to smoke with no bite. A good all day smoke.

A Good Smoke
Not bad. Not as good as the original, but very close. Smooth, mild, & nice burley aroma & taste!

First of all, it has
First of all, it has been 20-25 years since I have smoked Briggs,... so I do not have a memory of it. I do, however, remember the name was one of my favorites before it became unavailable. I am most impressed with the Match Briggs. Has a very sweet, warm, inviting fragrance in the bag, fresh, moist. Smokes wonderfully, no bite, provides the satisfaction fragrance to relax with. I will be ordering more, thank you.

Another blend I used to
Another blend I used to smoke. “When a feller needs a friend” again, the match doesn’t taste the same as I remember, but the match I feel is much tastier. I would also buy this again.

A notch above the middle of the road.
Never smoked the original and don't want to compare it to something else. It smelled good when I opened the shipping bag and wasn't too moist or too dry. Lights good, has that typical burly and virginia mixture taste that I like. Stays lighted pretty well. No bite. Doesn't leave a bad after taste. For me this is an all day tobacco that I wish I had tried much sooner. This will be my go to daytime smoke for a while.

Excellent Straightforward VaBur
A really solid, straightforward everyday burley blend. Fairly mild but enough nutty burley taste with a hint of sweetness from the VA and maybe from the topping to make it tasty enough. Not a “hot air smoke” at all. And I have no idea how another reviewer found this bitey. Extremely smooth and burns clean and exceptionally well to a fine ash every time, although it does burn fairly quickly. An excellent vauevand good anytime smoke.

This could be the burley blend you've been looking for
I've never tried the original Briggs Mix but this match blend is a fantastic burley blend with a very very light casing. Stays lit well and isn't overly moist so its pretty much good to go out of the bag. If you're into burley you should definitely check this out

Good Stuff
It has been a few years since I last smoked the original Briggs Mixture (a favorite at the time), but this match is certainly reminiscent of that experience. The cut is different and the original was not as sweet. Having said that, I find the match to be quite flavorful and a very good tobacco on its own merits. It possesses many of the qualities I found so appealing in the original: it burns well, has pleasant taste and room note, and can be smoked all day without growing tired of it. I will be ordering more!

Hum Drum for me--might be your go to.
Nothing wrong with this--mild-packs good--stays lit--typical burley--just doesn't have enough 'zip" for me--the Revelation Match has much more flavor.

OK, but not sure...
First 2-3 pipes were disappointing in that flavor was neutral and not distinctive. Smoke a lot of Half and Half which has a much more enjoyable flavor. The last couple of pipes have been a bit better, but probably won't replace my Half and Half.

The burley and the hare.
Cedar and cinnamon. I know most people think this, as with other burley blends, has a nutty quality, but to me it tastes like cedar and cinnamon. It has a mild sweetness, and a slight bitterness like chickory or a high quality earl grey tea. I get no tongue bite, but you won't if you aren't a chuffer. No billowing clouds of smoke here. Slow, steady, mild flavor.

I already have lots of friends
Probably won't buy again as I have nothing to compare the match to. There are other similar blends that I find to be just as good but more cost effective. That being said I did like this. It was buttery and smooth, maybe a touch of sweetness, really minimal tongue bite. If they were to bring it back Briggs like they did with Edgeworth at an affordable price like say at the price point of Granger or Half and Half, I would consider buying this in a tub.

Don't buy.
Nasty stuff with significant tongue bite. I never tasted the original but if it was anything like this, it is no wonder it was discontinued. If you, like Oct brands, stick to Carter Hall or Half and Half. After I smoked a few bowls, I had to throw it out. A waste of money but that's how you, learn.

All day pleasure
Excellent combo of Burley and Virginia. This is an all day smoke that takes you back to a time when pipe tobacco was king. No bark or bite just a solid, enjoyable smoke! When a feller needs a friend, this is the place to look.

When a Feller Needs a Friend
I share my pipe smoking hobby with my uncle, who has smoked pipes since the late 1940s. He recently asked if I had ever tried Briggs, a mixture he used to enjoy very much that a friend in the navy suggested to him many years ago. Knowing that the original was out of production for some time, I decided to order a few ounces to try for myself and share with my uncle. This Match replacement had my uncle thinking I had somehow found the original! It is a cool smoking blend that has a great 'old time' aroma, flavor, and simplicity. I would recommend this tobacco to anyone trying to find the original, or to anyone looking for a simply good smoke. Thanks for bringing this old friend back!
