MATCH Briggs Mixture

This is a match to the original House of Windsor Briggs Mixture. Sweet bright Virginias are combined with a smooth white Burley without any significant flavoring to create a mellow and gentle blend with natural tobacco flavor. OK, but not sure...
First 2-3 pipes were disappointing in that flavor was neutral and not distinctive. Smoke a lot of Half and Half which has a much more enjoyable flavor. The last couple of pipes have been a bit better, but probably won't replace my Half and Half.

The burley and the hare.
Cedar and cinnamon. I know most people think this, as with other burley blends, has a nutty quality, but to me it tastes like cedar and cinnamon. It has a mild sweetness, and a slight bitterness like chickory or a high quality earl grey tea. I get no tongue bite, but you won't if you aren't a chuffer. No billowing clouds of smoke here. Slow, steady, mild flavor.

I already have lots of friends
Probably won't buy again as I have nothing to compare the match to. There are other similar blends that I find to be just as good but more cost effective. That being said I did like this. It was buttery and smooth, maybe a touch of sweetness, really minimal tongue bite. If they were to bring it back Briggs like they did with Edgeworth at an affordable price like say at the price point of Granger or Half and Half, I would consider buying this in a tub.

Don't buy.
Nasty stuff with significant tongue bite. I never tasted the original but if it was anything like this, it is no wonder it was discontinued. If you, like Oct brands, stick to Carter Hall or Half and Half. After I smoked a few bowls, I had to throw it out. A waste of money but that's how you, learn.

All day pleasure
Excellent combo of Burley and Virginia. This is an all day smoke that takes you back to a time when pipe tobacco was king. No bark or bite just a solid, enjoyable smoke! When a feller needs a friend, this is the place to look.

When a Feller Needs a Friend
I share my pipe smoking hobby with my uncle, who has smoked pipes since the late 1940s. He recently asked if I had ever tried Briggs, a mixture he used to enjoy very much that a friend in the navy suggested to him many years ago. Knowing that the original was out of production for some time, I decided to order a few ounces to try for myself and share with my uncle. This Match replacement had my uncle thinking I had somehow found the original! It is a cool smoking blend that has a great 'old time' aroma, flavor, and simplicity. I would recommend this tobacco to anyone trying to find the original, or to anyone looking for a simply good smoke. Thanks for bringing this old friend back!
