MATCH Flying Dutchman

This is a match to the old Flying Dutchman, made by Theodorus Niemeyer . Sweet, bright Virginias, mellow Burleys and a hint of soft black Cavendish are combined with a mellow, sweet top note that is smooth enough to enjoy anytime. MATCH - Flying Dutchman is one of the most popular match blends, for a very good reason.

Brings back memories.
The first bowl brought back some great memories. My older brother and I would sit around a campfire, talk, drink a little bourbon and smoke some Flying Dutchman. This was maybe 40 years ago. My brother passed away over 10 years ago. I recently built a campfire, poured myself a glass of bourbon, lit my pipe with Match Flying Dutchman and thought of my brother. Thank you.

Nothing special
The aroma was pleasant. The smoke was very smooth. The original blend I smoked in the 1970s burned my mouth out. This did not. The flavor was mildly sweet, but other than that it was non-existent. The tobacco burned just fine. But it doesn’t actually have any flavor, I can’t see myself buying this again. Unless to use as a blending component.

Close, but no cigar.
If I could add my two bits, and according to my own experience, I'd say that this is a very pleasant mixture, but not quite the same as the original Flying Dutchman. I like the mild mellowness and the aroma is quite nice as well, but something I can't quite express is missing. But as I said, this mixture is very pleasant and a nice change during the day.

Dutchman, no, but still a nice smoke.
Slow, even burn. Mellow, no bite. But not what I recall the Dutchman being. Still a pleasant bowl.

Pipe problems
The Tobacco is fine. The problem I have is with the pipes that I order, one a round hole in the bottom appeared like a plug came out. When I ordered your special you sent me two pipes just alike.

Just like old times
Flavor is the same as it was before it disappeared. The only thing the cut is a little different. I love it. I think that lot of others do to. Judging by the fact that it's generally back ordered.

Not too bad
Not too bad in smoking with my MM corn pipes. Might order it again later on as right now testing it blending it with Lane BCA.

Nice
Pretty good and almost similar to smoking my favorite Captain Black. Mild and not strong bite but pleasant aroma.
Customer Testimonials
Like many other pipe smokers, I had a love affair with Flying Dutchman back in the day, so I was looking forward to trying the Match version. Unfortunately, other than the quick and light smoke, there was nothing in this blend that reminded me of the good old stuff. The lack of the famous Flying Dutchman aroma was the biggest disappointment. The good old stuff used to linger on the moustache for hours!

I love this tobacco. Tastes great and burns well. I have ordered this twice now and will certainly order again.

I am really tired of the bad rep that FD has been getting. FD has been around for a LONG time and is still sought out so maybe you should reevaluate your opinion. FD is a very thin ribbon cut blend that packs easily, lights easily, and burns very easily. If you smoke it SLOWLY it will not only taste better but WILL NOT BURN YOU!. If it was really so bad then it would not still be around after 75 years! So try it again and this time SLOW DOWN from your hectic life, get away from your computer, put down the cell phone and enjoy a classic.

Not the Dutchman, but a good smoke. Mild,no bite, burns to a white ash.Although it didn t match, I think I'll try EMP and compare to the real EMP in my english rotation. GB

Flying Dutchman match this is NOT! Simply a mild aromatic Cavendish blend with about a 2 room-note.

Pipes & Cigars Pipe Lighter Pipes & Cigar Branded Deal

Lighter only $5.00!

For a limited time, receive a Lighter (worth $19.99) for only $5.00 more with every qualifying purchase.

It seems like there are two reasons to buy a pipe lighter - to light your pipe, and then to lose it. For that reason, I won't spend a ton of money to buy a lighter, but I want one that does what I need. Forget disposable butane lighters. I've burnt myself too often with those. Now, I found the balance between value and function - the Pipes & Cigars Pipe Lighter. This antique gold-colored lighter doesn't use a flint, so no muss and fuss. Just pull down the trigger and you're ready to go. There's a fuel window so you'll easily know when it's time to recharge and it has a pull-down tamper that can be removed for use as a pick. You get all this at a price that's hard to resist!
