McClelland No. 2015 Virginia Flake and Perique

This item is no longer available for purchase.
See similar items below.

McClelland’s #2015 Virginia Flake and Perique uses a somewhat darker range of flue-cured tobaccos than 2010, to which fruity and tangy Louisiana Perique is added. The blend is pressed until the flavors marry and mature and the tobaccos darken. The plug is sliced for easy prep. You can expect deep plummy notes with a slightly-sweet zest.

Due to inventory issues, McClelland's 2015 Virginia Flake and Perique may be temporarily out of stock. But check back often for when it comes back in stock.

Quality purchase
Great quality tobacco for the price. Although, not worth mentioning anything in your letter to home. Overall a mildly balanced blend. Doesn't need much attention. The Virginias possess a vaguely subtle ketchup taste with possible coca and grass notes. On the other hand, the perique is predominately sweet (on the mild side), but if pushed a little you can discover its peppery finish notes. I gave it dry time and smoked this in broken flake form but you might yield better results rubbing it to a fine cut. Its not my first choice, but a good change up to have something to smoke for the day or an activity.

Found a keeper as well
Well it happens I like virginia flakes already and have had my share. I picked this one after trying and failing with Virginia burley and a 'wine' english. After 2 bowls of either it led to tongue bite. I had a quantity that is lasting since this summer and have cellerd some of the Va. Now I couldn't find many Va flake tobaccos out there this year (out, of stock) so, I landed on this beauty. If your looking to smoke all day. Here it is. If you want to make a pipe LAST at least an hour, here it is. You do have to relight a little more because of how stiff this stuff is, but man, it lasts and lasts so your getting your moneys worth there for sure. Go at it slow as it can get peppery from the Perique.

Fast & Bug Free
I'm fairly new into pipe tobacco. I fell in love with Golden Flake early on and looked for a bulk alternative. I can't say this is close to Golden Slice but I can say I like it just as much. More importantly than that, the buying experience was flawless. I won't be afraid to set up an auto order and get some of my faves coming in on a regular schedule.

Fine All Day Smoke
So far, broadly speaking, I have come across two types of Va/Per pipe tobacco blends; those that tend to be fragrant, usually containing Cavendish, and those that tend to be for lack of a better term, earthy. I like both kinds. No. 2015 Virginia Flake & Perique tends most decidedly toward the earthy taste spectrum. Maybe it's the amount of Virginia in it that gives it that slightly hay barn aroma that I'm calling earthy. The Perique certainly compliments that aroma and taste very nicely. I recommend it.

Classic McClelland tobacco.
2015 is an outstanding VaPer. For the price you'd be hard pressed to find something better. It represents that classic McClelland smell and taste. It's as good as almost any of their tinned offerings.

Just not for me
I tried it but I guess I,m not a VAPER person. Seems like good leaf was used and all the spiciness was there, a little on the stong side for me. I won,t order again but please anyone who likes this type of blend you should try it.

An outstanding Virginia Perique.

Delicious
I am new to pipe smoking, so I don't have much to compare this tobacco to. It has a nice mellow spicy flavor to it of natural tobacco. It is comparable to Orlik Golden Sliced but a little milder on the virginia side, not as bright as the virginia in Orlik. I like it and plan to buy some more when I get low.

Hello, beautiful!
I'm on my second order of this marvelous, tasty blend. It is a tangy, sweet Virginia-Perique blend, presented in broken flake form. It rubs out well enough for me, someone who has little success so far with fold-and-stuff pipe filling. It lights easily, after a char light and tamp, and stays lit through the bowl. Burns well and tastes consistent throughout the smoke. For the price, I haven't found anything better that gives me that Virginia grass/hay combined with the Perique "tingle."

I keep coming back to this blend
I've purchased this blend numerous times, it's my go-to VaPer, probably my favorite McClelland product overall.

McCLELLAND 2015 BULK
My favorite tobacco is McClelland 2015, I always keep a pound in reserve. I'm a little worried bulk tobacco may not be available in the near future. Someone should talk to McClelland about selling their bulk tobacco in pound cans.

Great bulk VaPer
Purchased an ounce at the local B&M on a whim while out with the Wife and boy is this stuff good! Figgy and sweet, nice a peppery. Great blend considering its bulk.

flavorful smoke
Takes a bit of getting used to and up front with the taste. Some bite present if smoked too fast. Still on the fence whether I really like it or not.

Found my tobacco
Like most people I have spent a lot of time and money trying to find the perfect tobacco, and I think I have finally found it! This tobacco is smooth and when I smoke it I think CLEAN. Fresh Virginias with a touch of perique... Couldn't ask for anything better. I'm proud to say I am an OGS fan for life now.

Very Good Tobacco
I purchased this due to the tobacco reviews and they were right. This an outstanding Virginia/Perique blend that smokes not hot and has enough perique to give it that pepperly taste. The Virginias keep the pipe going with that Grassy Hay like flavor all the way down to the bottom of the bowl.would highly recommend buying some and store it.honestly a Very Good Smoke!

Wonderful smoke!
This Virginia Perique blend was just what I was looking for! And at a great price. Outstanding fast customer service, as always, at P&C. It smokes cool and fragrant, with a very nice taste and room note. Will be buying, again.

McClelland No. 2015
A superb Virginia Perique blend that should be in everyone's rotation. The bag note is wonderful and the smoke that it produces once packed in the bowl is top shelf quality. The tobacco comes in a broke flake that is enjoyable in the fold and stuff method as well as having been rubbed out. The fruit notes and tangy notes are experienced throughtout the bowl start to finish. You can't go wrong adding this to your rotation.

McClelland 2015
I find this flake to be not as refined in cut as other flakes that I smoke (ie. a bit more coarse) and therefore performs better rubbed out then using the fold and plug technique. It's aroma is deep, pungent and fruity. Under fire this tobacco behaves very well, delivering a full smooth smoke that is both sweet and fruity yet tempered with just the right amount of Perique so as not to be overly so. Try some and hopefully you'll enjoy this great blend as much as I and others do.

No doubt a winner in VaPer blends
I have to say that this is certainly a great VaPer (Virginia / Perique blend)!! The flavor is exceptional. Took some bit of work rubbing it out, but definitely well worth it. I've gone through 8 oz so far and have ordered MUCH more! Packs well after rubbing out, and the burn quality is quite good with minimal to no relights, as long as you're tamping every now and then with a deep bowl. Did I mention that the flavor is exceptional? .. :-) . Guess I can't say it enough. I've tried quite a few other VaPers (St. James flake, Louisiana Perique, Lane 125th Aniversary, H&H signature AJ's, Bayou Morning, Anniversary Kake, and some others). These are certainly good baccy's, but IMO are not top in my book. This one is. My other favorite is Orlik Golden Slice, so I now will always have these two fully stocked. I definitely recommend trying an ounce or two of this if you are a VaPer fan. If you're looking to venture into VaPers this is a great one to get. It's rich, deep, tangy, spicy, earthy, sweet flavor is certainly a keeper...and the bulk price is well worth it too.

McClelland 2015
I combine 2015 and McClelland Red Cake 5100 in equal portions and let them sit for about a week. I get a medium body smoke with great flavor. Been smoking this for years.

Customer Testimonials
Excellent VaPer. Highly recommended.
Oh my goodness - I feel like I've wasted my entire life up to the moment of discovery of this tobac - living it in ignorance of this manna was wasted time. A wonderful smoke!
I have avoided perique blends up til now because the descriptions of it did not appeal to me. However, so many people have sung its praises that I finally gave in. When I initially opened the bag and smelled it, I immediately thought of condiments - ketchup, mustard, and pickles. Not a bad smell, but not one I would associate with pipe smoking. However, when you light it up, something magical happens. The room note and taste are AMAZING. I wish I could better describe how great it smells and tastes. It makes you want to puff like crazy to get more, more, MORE! - but even doing so, it gave very minimal bite. It's exceptionally mild. Even puffing like a fiend, I got no unpleasant head buzz or throat burn. It's quite sticky and required a few relights, but still burned well. I think after it dries a tiny bit, it will be perfect. It's definitely worth a try!
The cut is heavier than other producers flakes, and the dampness makes it sticky when rubbing out further, which it needs to burn well, but it gives off a little cedar and pepper when smoked.
I like this tobacco a great deal. Quite similar in flavor, strength and body as Escudo. This is a very good VaPer.
An atypical leaf fragrance of plum and pepper steak carries through dryly to the palate. Moist, rubbery flakes rub out as stiff crumbs.
A great bulk Virginia Flake with a medium body and the sweet Virginia taste, just the right amount of Perique to spice it up. This will be on my regular smoke rotation for a long time. I also put some in the celler for a couple months aging-they all get better with age.
My first Va/Per, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. The feel is light and dry, burns cooly even if it is a touch on the wet side (better than dry. After taste reminds me of licorice in a good way
