McClelland’s #2015 Virginia Flake and Perique uses a somewhat darker range of flue-cured tobaccos than 2010, to which fruity and tangy Louisiana Perique is added. The blend is pressed until the flavors marry and mature and the tobaccos darken. The plug is sliced for easy prep. You can expect deep plummy notes with a slightly-sweet zest.
Due to inventory issues, McClelland's 2015 Virginia Flake and Perique may be temporarily out of stock. But check back often for when it comes back in stock.
Excellent VaPer. Highly recommended.
Oh my goodness - I feel like I've wasted my entire life up to the moment of discovery of this tobac - living it in ignorance of this manna was wasted time. A wonderful smoke!
I have avoided perique blends up til now because the descriptions of it did not appeal to me. However, so many people have sung its praises that I finally gave in. When I initially opened the bag and smelled it, I immediately thought of condiments - ketchup, mustard, and pickles. Not a bad smell, but not one I would associate with pipe smoking. However, when you light it up, something magical happens. The room note and taste are AMAZING. I wish I could better describe how great it smells and tastes. It makes you want to puff like crazy to get more, more, MORE! - but even doing so, it gave very minimal bite. It's exceptionally mild. Even puffing like a fiend, I got no unpleasant head buzz or throat burn. It's quite sticky and required a few relights, but still burned well. I think after it dries a tiny bit, it will be perfect. It's definitely worth a try!
The cut is heavier than other producers flakes, and the dampness makes it sticky when rubbing out further, which it needs to burn well, but it gives off a little cedar and pepper when smoked.
I like this tobacco a great deal. Quite similar in flavor, strength and body as Escudo. This is a very good VaPer.
An atypical leaf fragrance of plum and pepper steak carries through dryly to the palate. Moist, rubbery flakes rub out as stiff crumbs.
A great bulk Virginia Flake with a medium body and the sweet Virginia taste, just the right amount of Perique to spice it up. This will be on my regular smoke rotation for a long time. I also put some in the celler for a couple months aging-they all get better with age.
My first Va/Per, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. The feel is light and dry, burns cooly even if it is a touch on the wet side (better than dry. After taste reminds me of licorice in a good way
