McClelland's Syrian Super Balkan is a smooth blend that is remarkably well harmonized. Superb Virginias and zesty Orientals are melded perfectly with the tang of Perique and fleshed out by the delicate flavor of true Syrian Latakia. The tobaccos work in concert to deliver a mellow, yet rich flavor.
Excellent blend, very smooth and doesn't burn too hot. Excellent aroma and complex flavor, with the Perique adding a hint of spice.

I really like this one, especially the spiciness of it. But then I like Cayenne and Creole peppers on my food and I drink my coffee black, too! I will definitely be buying more of this in the near future.

Not Strong but Subtle

With a name like Super Balkan, I was expecting the scent out of the can to be dominated by Latakia. That was not the case----a complex blend of many different scents greeted me when I cracked open the can. Latakia/Oriental and Virginia/Perique are the the two major themes in this blend, with the overall effect surprisingly reminiscent of ketchup. This proved to be a subtle and complex smoking experience no matter what pipe i smoked it from, be it Stanwell or Savinelli. It challenged me to note where one flavor ended and another started. When smoked slowly the Virginia and Latakia Perique predominated, but when smoked quickly the Perique made itself apparent. This mixture is not about Latakia as it is a milder and subtle smoking experience, and I have found it a good Latakia mixture for my first smoke of the day.
