McClelland Tudor Castle

Tudor Castle is a broken flake tobacco that falls into the Virginia/Oriental/Perique genre. A variety of sweet and zesty flue-cured tobaccos are at the heart of the blend, while brightly tangy Yenidje, called the "Queen of Tobaccos" add a singular element. The mixture is capped off and made deeper by the additon of Perique.

Due to inventory issues, McClelland's Tudor Castle may be temporarily out of stock. But check back often for when it comes back in stock.

One Of The Best VApers In The world
A clue to the quality McClelland put into Tudor Castle is the plain paper label. The expense went into what's inside. And there is a lot to like what's inside. A beginning pipe smoke will likely, at first, experience Tudor Castle as strong and maybe even harsh, but revisiting the tin weeks, or months later, it mysteriously is transformed. So, airing out--decanting--this tobacco brings out all that it has to offer. I haven't decided yet what I like best, this Virginia- Perique, or McClelland's St. James Woods. Both are what many consider to be among the best VApers in the world.

The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of
I have to borrow the accurate description of a friend who wrote about Tudor Castle, for I can find no better words: "Ambrosia. Wonderful stuff. Heavenly. This is one of three of this type - Va/Or with a little Perique - that McClelland makes..... If you need a reason to live this is it. I think McClelland excels even beyond McConnell at this style of blend. Excellent stuff. The Tudor Castle is superb. This is the high art of tobacco making." I have 16 tins of this tobacco treasure in my "cellar." Six are aging and the other ten, I have to discipline myself to pop only very occasionally. Because it is a celebratory Virginia pipe tobacco of such stellar quality not created for chugging,... but for slow, exquisite sipping. The is the stuff dreams are made of. Get some of this. You will not regret it.

Sublime
I am not a pipe tobacco expert but I can say after savoring a tin of Tudor Castle that this broken Virginia flake from McClelland is about as near to perfection as I can tell. I do not have the skill to give all the different nuances in it. All I can say is that smoking it is heavenly. It never fails to deeply satisfy, down to the bottom of the bowl. Wish I had unlimited resources. I would buy 500 tins of this.

Fit for a King!
I originally tried Tudor Castle on a whim as the tobacco I was looking for was not to be found. No recommendation, no preconceived notion, only my trust in McClelland tobacco and the desire to try something new. Wow was I treated to royalty in this smoke! Smooth, cool and full of smoke with just the right amount of spicey pepper it was a delight. First reaction? Purchased more tins before I finished the first. Highly recommend.

Fit for Kings
Tudor Castle is incredible! I had heard about it but had only recently had the opportunity to give it a try - why did I wait? The typically McClelland "ketchup" tin note is not as pronounced as with other blends (although this is not an issue for me) but the high standard of quality is immediately evident. I am a sucker for flake tobacco and Tudor Castle is a match for my taste profile. Will certainly be tucking some additional tins away for a rainy day...

The Rolls Royce of Tobacco Blends
What an amazing blend! Your ride while smoking this luxury blend won't have any rough or harsh spots as you travel through and discover the complexities of this well engineered tobacco. McClelland incorporated the best of the best into Tudor Castle. The rich sweet red Virginia along with the slightly sour but woodsy Yenidje combine perfectly with the plum/raisin sweetness of the Perique which adds just a little spiciness. Every component is well balanced in a blend that burns slow and cool and won't bite regardless how hard you push it and aging adds to its richness. I smoke this blend whenever there is a special occasion or holiday to celebrate. Smoking Tudor Castle gives you a sense of accomplishment like owning a Rolls Royce. This blend is for the self made man who appreciates the finest things life has to offer. Its greatness cannot be described, only experienced.

Vinegar and ketchup
I wasn't a big fan of this flake at first but it has certainly grown on me. In my opinion, this isn't like the traditional orientals I am used to. It is more of a Virginia blend as I don't really taste the musky/mildew flavor a I love. This flake rubs out easy enough and makes for quite a long smoke (longer than most flakes I pack). It burns sweet and brings a constant rush of vinegar and ketchup. The strength is medium and taste is medium full. This is one I will keep in my collection.

Sweet and Tangy
This is the stuff Deception Pass reminds me of, but this is better
