Sherlock Holmes routinely smoked a strong shag tobacco, which had a very potent aroma. McClelland's 221-B Series Black Shag is certainly more refined than Holmes' blend. They begin with fine flue-cured tobaccos which are carefully stoved until quite dark and then cut in a fine, easy packing ribbon. The flavor is deep, somewhat sweet and very enjoyable. Because of the cut, it is meant to be smoked slowly.
Adriene's pick: My first shag tobacco and I’m hooked. Follow the directions on the tin: Smoke at once, if convenient. Examine the ash carefully.
