McConnell's Pure Perique

McConnell’s Pure Perique is 100% Louisiana Perique, slowly fermented multiple times under pressure in whiskey barrels, and is a welcome addition to many blends if you want to add some sweetness, spice and body. Ride the Wild Bull!
Whoa! Yeah! Doggies! When I opened the tin the funny aroma is hard to describe – fishy mushrooms out in the cattle grazing field? To me, the smell is on the verge of being disgusting. This is so full and intense that it should be a good cake building tobacco. Light it, tamp it, puff again and set it down - repeat every 5 minutes or so. I can smoke this in a Brylon pipe without the pipe getting hot – no brag, just fact. By itself it is something you have to experience and, for me, hard to describe. This is a spice, and I now understand the “peppery” description, but I do not believe there is really a bottle of Tabasco or any pepper used in the brew. Watch out for the nicotine! It is a different kind of peppery that you just have to smoke to understand. I mixed a bowl of 1 part Perique with 2 parts mixing burley. That was a horrible mistake. Did the same with mixing Izmer and that wasn’t quite as horrible. I mixed same proportions with Borkum Riff Original and that was a bad move too. But when I mixed it 50/50 with Mixture 79, I enjoyed a very delightful smoke that I will do again! After trying these methods of taming this wild bull, I finally smoked it through a charcoal filter and WOW what a difference! That definitely lowered the testosterone and brought that wild bull down to where it was indeed enjoyable by itself – but that Brylon got just a little too hot to handle. I like it! I can’t wait till Top Black Cherry gets back it stock because I’m thinking “Mon Cheri Perique”. If you haven’t played with this McConnell’s Pure Perique, you’re missing out on a lot of fun!
