I have smoked Sir Walter Raleigh for over 20 years. Very pleased with it.

en I was growing up, there was a neighborhood store (60's) and the man who owned it smoked SWR. I remember the way the small store smelled when I walked in there. This was his all day smoke. Never saw him without a pipe hanging from his mouth. He's long gone, but his little building is still there, but passing by, I still remember the smell of his store. I'm 69 now, but that sweet smell is still with me.. I haven't smoked SWR in a long time, but I remember the taste. Maybe its time to step back in to time..

I can see why this has been such a mainstay over the decades. For an aromatic it is very very subtle. The smoke is smooth, the moisture is perfect out of the pouch (for me anyway). The flavor is good but mild. The thing that really sells me on this is that the aroma is exactly what I remember pipe tobacco smelling like since my childhood. The quintessential pipe aroma, I suppose. I’m not sure if it’s my favorite yet, but I’m definitely going to keep some on hand.

Very good budget aromatic. One of my wife's favorites for me to smoke indoors. Up there with capt. black, in my opinion.

I enjoy Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic slightly more than the regular blend. The aromatic blend has a less stingy, spicy, zing for me as compared to the regular blend. Both are great in pouch note, room note and taste. But I do tend to favor the aromatic aroma and taste over the regular as well.

It's been years since I've smoked but I well remember this brand. It was never harsh or over sweet, just a smooth smoke. I don't see as many people smoking a pipe nowadays, but then again, things have changed for just about everything. Maybe it's time to get my old pipes out and smoke em..

P&C's request for a review indicated that I purchased this pack of Beyond Brave. Not so. It just showed up in my last order. Not one to turn my back on a freebe I gave it a try. To the review: Packs nicely, burns smooth, stays lit and has little or no after taste. It has a mild flavor that I cannot identify but is not off putting. If someone wants to give me some more I'll put it in the rotation around number six or seven. One strange characteristic is the smoke it produces is not the filmy milky white I'm accustomed to but rather it's a dusty almost tan color. Hard to describe but interesting. If you lean toward mild, give it a try.

This comes across rather like chocolate, smooth, mellow and creamy. It has a dark cocoa flavor with hints of vanilla and fills the room with a smokey cocoa smell.

I didn't buy this, it was a freebie from Pipes & Cigars. I am not an aromatic or Cavandish smoker so it was too sweet for me. Nevertheless, it had not bite or wetness so I would smoke it in a pinch.

Nice smooth burning ,pronounced flavor with minimal bite.

The flavor here was interesting, room note pleasant. received complements about the great smell while piping. There is some lack of quality that brings it down to a 3. I suspect 'artificial flavor added' from how dirty the tar/resin is - what one would expect from the over-flavored Sutliff blends (which are not bad mind you, but they mostly sit in that 3-star range IMHO). This certainly belongs on your shelf in-between to Sutliff Maple St. and a bag of Mark Twain. Worthy of occasional piping, not a daily favorite.

I will start this by saying I am a huge fan of Black Cavendish... I wasn't sure if I would even like the blend containing some Black Cavendish... so I was more than surprised when I really liked my 1st bowl of Casey Jones Beyond Brave... with each bowl that I smoked my appreciation for this tobacco blend increased... I have now blown through three of the six 12 oz cans I purchased... I do not buy in pouches due to the pricey nature of doing that... I always buy bulk or in cans... now I am almost at the point of obsession with Beyond Brave... I haven't seen cans anywhere now for some time... I know because I check multiple tobacco retailers regularly.... I am holding out for cans... but I hafta tell ya... if this keeps up I will break down and actually start buying pouches... now have some mercy... y'all got me strung out on this stuff... BRING BACK THE 12 OZ CANS!!!

I got one of these pouches from a trade, it was basically thrown in for free. I thought I'd at least try a bowl before throwing it in the cellar to never be seen again. Well...it never made it to the cellar. This is one of my favorite all-day blends. A nice CaBur with hints of Virginias. Really smooth blend with little to no bite and very, very light aroma.

This actually came as a surprise. I didn't think it would be that good.

I am not a very sophisticated pipe smoker. I have enjoyed SWR Aromatic for years. I Switch off to other brands for a change of flavor but always come back to SWR Aromatic as my standard day in and day out pipe filler. I like the flavor and find it has littleminimal bite and does not burn hot.

Wanted to try this as I like SWR regular. I don’t care for the aromatic. There’s nothing wrong with this tobacco , I just don’t like the flavoring. I can’t tell what the flavoring is, but it doesn’t appeal to me . I’ll stick with SWR regular.

It is a fine smoking experience

I'm a fan of aromatic tobaccos and smoke them almost exclusively, and have been experimenting with a number of blends offered by P and C. Recently a purchased two Casey Jones' pouches--Beyond Brave and Heroes Blend--along with a pack of Half and Half and Captain Black White. Out of the 4 Beyond Brave comes in second to Casey Jones' Heroes Blend, although it is a good all day tobacco in its own right. The can note is delightful with a nutty and sweet aroma, and it generally smokes cool with a good cloud of smoke and an up front nuttiness with vanilla undertones. It is a pretty mellow smoke overall which makes it a good all day blend, and it generally smokes all the way down with minimal relights and no goop left at the bottom of the pipe. Although I like Heroes Blend a little more than BB, I think that Beyond Brave is a great quality tobacco at a reasonable price.

I tried it out on a promotion, and was really happy with the beyond brave tobacco. I have now bought several pouches... for myself and for gifts.

On again off again pipe smoker. Recently retired and smoking the pipe regularly now that I have time to enjoy it. I still get PA in tubs in my area (Wyoming) but wanted to try something different and decided to order 2 pouches of SWRA to try it. I wasn't too impressed at first (one bowl is not enough to make a judgement), but it got better the more I smoked it. Definite note of chocolate. I get lots of compliments on the aroma. Much more than PA. After the first pouch I ordered the 7 oz tub. Sip it and there's very littler bite, But hit it hard and try to gulp and it will bite you, but I think all tobacco does to some degree. I'll order it from you again.

Great mellow tast, manageable nicotine level, smells delightful while burning. This is my daily smoke.

I found the Aromatic to be leagues above the original. The aroma is pretty robust so it does have a strong smell and flavor to it, which could be off putting to a tobacco purest. (I guess that's what you would call them?) I don't think I can adequately describe the aroma. That robustness seems to come from a spice, like cinnamon. So, a hint of cinnamon roll? I know, that sounds pretty weird but trust me, it's good. I'm gonna have to read the other reviews and see what other people think of the flavors and smells.

Bite is not bad, aroma is pleasant to the nose, and flavor. To me is great.

Just a good, simple, all day smoke. I like to throw this in a pipe on my long drive to/from work. Smokes completely and without any fuss, no relights. Taste is fairly unique. Although a little boring, it still makes me want to keep trying again to figure out what that "other" flavor is. For the price, Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic is a fantastic bargain. The taste doesn't seem to be fake or synthetic. Reminds me of a fine cognac on a cold winter night, reading the same old book in front of the warm fire. Basic, yet somehow very satisfying.

... but better name. I buy this stuff because it brings back memories of the Rail Nomads in Wasteland 2. A name that prompts nostalgia and prods the imagination can go a long way with me.

When I first smoked inherited family pipes as a young man, it was always Captain Black. When I decided pipe smoking would be great for pandemic life (in the garage), SWRA was my first tobacco purchase in over a decade. I enjoyed it very much, but am realizing now that I really like burley blends and that is what I liked most about SWRA - the nutty burleys. I finished the pouch before I could gather more details than that. Plan to revisit but not for a few months or so.

Certainly not a bad tobacco, especially considering the price. Set against something like 1-Q, SWR’s Aromatic stays airy with a little bite. The taste is classically aromatic and by all means good but disappears, or rather never fully materializes. There are better, cheaper tobaccos if you buy bulk, but as a pouch Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic is a fine choice in its price range.

I would give it 4 1/2 stars if that were possible. It is a very pleasant aromatic both for the smoker and for others nearby. If you're looking for that smoke that is reminiscent of grandpa's pipe tobacco, this is the one you want. Mellow, sweet, with almost Christmasy notes, It's good for an all-day smoker.

Very good! Don’t typically smoke Aeros but this one is fairly tame and mild. And it smells nice but not overpowering.

I keep coming back this this. It tastes just like to smells. Toffee, vanilla, caramel, and a little bit of spice. More complex than ‘Hero’s Blend’, which is more of a pure caramel. Absolutely love it.

Not what I was looking for, but a very pleasant surprise. Thin ribbon cut packs easily and stays lit well. The ouch nose definitely has the subtle plum and dried fruit notes. IMHO doesn't really make it to the palate, but the flavor was quite nice. not like "cigarettes" at all. Smoke was nice; wasn't to thin and wasn't just a blue-grey that disappears quickly. It was Definitely one to have in the rotation.

This used to be my favorite years ago after trying many others. However, my recent experience for the last few months has been dismal--all the pouches I bought locally were dried out, no taste and more like dried out grass. I guess SWR had a lot of inventory that just sat in warehouses, don't know....however, I did just purchase locally a pouch and..WOW!..it's back to where I remember! I just did order a canister from P&C and, hopefully, it will be moist, flavorful and as great as it used to be. If not, I will give up on SWR Aromatic.....

I was recommended this tobacco by a friend in England actually. I finally gave it a try. Nice smoke, pleasant aroma.

This stuff takes you on a trip to flavor town, right along the tasty city of deliciousville. It turned my cob into candy-corn.

I bit on the P&C sale email and I'm glad I did. This was a smooth smoke. I found the flavor to be pleasant and the "room note" was given as a positive by my family (I was smoking outdoors). I experienced no tongue bite, although the flavor dissipated toward the end of the smoke and it became a little harsh at that point. I took the tobacco out of the bag and put it directly into my pipe with no drying time and the tobacco stayed lit in my pipe requiring no re-lights after the charring light. When I consider the overall taste, smoothness, and price I would recommend this tobacco to new pipe smokers and veterans too if they haven't tried it before for a change of pace. I give it 4.5 stars.

I enjoy rotating pipes and blends. I have several favorites I use regularly. Walter Raleigh aromatic is one of them. Nice taste,nice aroma, smokes cool. I always have a supply on hand.

I've been through most of the tobacco's over the years and this always comes back to the front. It's the best. Whether it's for a relaxing smoke at the end of the day, walking around a junk yard all day, or anything else it will never disappoint. It had a small bite that matches up perfect to a glass of wine or even a cranberry/apple cider. Perfect. It's not overly aromatic like the fru fru but is very well balanced and has a great room note as well as a nice beard note.

I waited for MONTHS for Beyond Brave to come into stock, and I am stupidly happy I did. Before, my three favorites were, in order, Captain Black Dark, Casey Jones Last Ride, and Hearth & Home Scot's Delight. Beyond Brave has just taken the top spot. I like it insanely. The flavor is almost indescribably complex: caramelly, a little walnutty, some citrusy brightness, some pecan woodsiness. It's solid without being heavy and stands up to repeated smokes. No bite, no bitterness. Smooth as silk. The room note is amazing, too. I haven't finished my first pouch yet and ordered two more. It should never go out of stock again.

It was a nice even smoke ,but it had a bit of a bite.which turned me off. I have been smoking Capt. Black Original with no bite at all,so I'm going back. But all in all I know others who love it ! You may love it too,it can't hurt to try it.

Nuts about the stuff! Favorite pipe tobacco.

This was actually my first ever pipe tobacco I ever tried. I gave it another go again recently so I could be objective. It is very smooth and has no tongue bite, big plus. All you really taste when you smoke it is the strong casing. Sort of like a sweet vanilla milkshake. The room note was very pleasant. All that said, it is an OTC and I’m not an everyday smoker so I like the nicer pricier blends. But if you are on a budget or an every day pipe smoker you could certainly do worse.

Was in a pinch and purchased this at a local store. I was hoping it would have some aromatic flavor. It did not. It did have a slight pouch note, perhaps a whiff of vanilla. However when smoked it had nothing but the taste of grass. To be more specific it tasted like moss. Totally one dimension with one taste. Even the retro hit was nasty. This is not for those who want a real aromatic or those who desire some hint of flavor in their tobacco besides grass.

Difficult to find product. Shipped to me, no problems.

Missing the fine edge that is present in more expensive blends but still a very good smoke. A good change of pace that’s easy to pack, light and smoke to the bottom. A classic American blend that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Nice change of pace from more robust and pricier blends. Easy light, easy to smoke and keep lit. Tasty but mild.not overwhelmingly aromatic...just very pleasant...she says it’s OK. There’s a good reason it’s been a marker mainstay for so long...besides, didn’t Sir Walter sort of start the tobacco thing.

This was a good OTC easy smoke for anytime of the day. A quick break or just to pass the time, with a pretty pleasant room note that won't offend anyone.

Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic is on the mark, a good all day tobacco you can smoke with no bite. The mild but aromatic tobacco is enjoyed by all who smoke.

A nice lighter change up, but I prefer more full-bodied blends. Certainly not a bad smoke, would be a great starting place for someone new to pipes. Pro: the wife said the smoke didn’t ‘stink’! Con: that’s because the flavor isn’t very complex.

I love this tobacco. For a working man's smoke this one is so close to perfect that you could smoke it all day in the shop or just relaxing after work in your recliner. Opening the pouch you get a nice little note of almost a grapy leaf smell. This was by far one of the easiest to light tobaccos I have tried this year. Easy to char and easy to keep an ember without having to feel like you are breathing a wind tunnel through your pipe. I'll definitely be ordering a pouch or two of this one for the shop every month to keep on hand along with the premium tins. So if you are wondering whether or not to order this one I say give it a try you might just like it as much as I do and make it a staple for OTC tobacco to keep on hand.

It’s the only tobacco I use and I love it. I have used it for over forty years.

I have tried this tobacco in two different pipes and the result is the same in both. When lit you get a nice bloom of smoke and smooth flavor of the tobacco itself. The flavor itself reminds me of the smell that you get when you drop in a fine tobacco shop, woodsy with a little hint of liquor. Though I would not say as strong as brandy but more of a cognac, the type that you can sip all day and never be unsatisfied. Overall I really, really enjoy this one for a everyday working smoke but not one of those that you would use winding down at the end of the day. Goes great with coffee though.

Low price and to me just as pleasing as other high priced tobacco's.

Haven't smoked swr original for awhile, always liked it. Didn't know what to expect from swr aromatic, ribbon cut, even burn and not overpowering. An enjoyable pipe tobacco.

This was my first experience with Air Walter Aromatic and I was really happy with it. Nice arkma, unlike a lot of Cavendish aromatics it had some depth and body to it without any tongue bite. All in all a great everyday smoke and one I will visit regularly.

SWR Aromatic is just about my favorite drug store tobacco. Brings back happy memories whenever I open up the pouch. Sweet, mild and great flavor and aroma. This one, and the return of Amphora have made me extremely happy! So glad I found Pipesandcigars.com!

Been smoking pipe infrequently for 10+ years but recently started to get more versed in the quality and types of tobacco. Ordered a few blends that have stood the test of time. This one was one that I immediately enjoyed from the pouch note to the end of the bowl! The nose on this is of brown sugar with cocoa and the fruity liqueur used in the casing. Taste includes chocolate, some vanilla and I tasted some sweet orange. Surprised at the overall balance of taste throughout the whole bowl as well as how cool this burned. An overall pleasure to smoke with a great taste and a very pleasant room note.

In all my many years, I had never tried this because it was an over the counter blend. This was a huge mistake because this is a very good blend. It has taste, but not overpowering.

I'm fairly new to the piping world, but was pleasantly surprised by this blend. This is probably my favorite drugstore blend I've tried so far. This could easily be an all day smoke. Fills well, stays lit, mild taste, little to no tongue bite. Would recommend anyone to try if you haven't.

Great codger burley blend, a lightly cased aromatic.

I am not a long time pipe smoker just kinda smoke now and then. I liked the name so I thought I would give it a try.

Relatively new to pipe smoking and have started serious sampling of different blends. I have smoked this blend once and find it to be unimpressive yet a peaceful smoke. Nothing harsh and maybe I'm missing something because I'm still new to the greater perspective of large numbers of blends, but this blend is nice. Which is why I rated it 3 stars.

I've heard mixed reviews and decided to try. For me it was a very temperamental tobacco. To me it seemed to want to be packed perfect and would fight. It also left a strange aftertaste and could not pinpoint it to the tobacco or the pipe. Many love it, I will probably come back to it in a while.

Excellent mild smoke, with very pleasant aroma and taste.

I'm a relatively novice pipe smoker and bought this based on reviews and word of mouth. In my opinion, this isn't as good compared to some of the Lane varieties I've grown accustomed to and some of the Sutliff blends I smoke. It's not a bad tobacco...it just doesn't work for me.

Well I just found my new go to tobacco. I wasn't really looking for a mainstay but the subtlety and smoky sweetness out of my corncob is all I've ever wanted in a smoke. I will surely be buying a lot of this.

Pleasant aroma, but a little too pepper-y for me.

This tobacco is a definite winner with flavor and room note! Smokes cool and burns consistent with no bite. Definitely going to be one of my regular everyday blends. Has an old world quality that is very pleasantly reminiscent of the past.

It's not bad but certainly not my favorite, I found it a bit strong for me, but I prefer a mild tobacco
