Murray's 1862 Whitehall is the kind of English-style blend that the all-day pipe enthusiast will love. Sweet Virginia and mellow Burley is blended with a bit of Virginia-based black Cavendish and smoky Latakia in a light enough amount to keep from overwhelming the palate.

Pleasant and Enjoyable
Most pleasant and enjoyable smoke. No tongue bite or harsh taste. Great all day smoke that brings much pleasure and enjoyment. Sadly, it appears to be off the market and no longer available. Perhaps the great folks at Scandinavian Tobacco Group can bring this delightful pleasure back again.

Mellow and robust
Great all day smoke. I tried this because the 1820 Belfast was out of stock, and prefer this one. As mellow as the Belfast but a little more dark and flavorful. Have already ordered two more tins as I’m going through it quickly

Good smoke
hmmm, hate to sound dumb, but am not sure of all the different tobacco flavors, even though I have smoked pipes off and on since 1982. I can not tell you the difference between Burley or Virginia or English or any of the other tobaccos, I simply go by how the blend smells in the tin/bag and how it tastes and smells when lit. I smoke this blend while out on my deck enjoying quite time. It smokes well, and if I puff slowly, it does not bite nor burn hot. Not sure if I will be back to this one after I finish this tin, not because there's anything wrong with it, simply because I'm like the squirrel gathering nuts and running around picking up everything. I'm very eclectic in my choosings from the sea of tobaccos, just too many darn choices! However, I have noticed that I do appear to like more Sutliff tobaccos than others and do rely heavily on the remarks and views of others when choosing the next tobacco to try.

Murry’s 1862
A very nice medium English blend. Cannot detect any topping. Needed to let it dry out quite a bit. Will buy

raised to 5 stars
I finished the tin and am raising my rating to 5 stars. I really like this stuff. It's a little sweeter and smokes a bit cooler than a typical English. The flavor holds through the entire smoke. Little or no PG so it will dry out quick, but I'll take that trade-off. Opening a tin of 1A Linfield next.

Mild english, cool smoking
Very nice mild English that smokes cool and bite-free. It's my first experience with Murray's and it's made a good first impression. I'll keep it in mind as a replacement for EMP if Dunhill really does go away.

Bob
I've been a pipe smoker since 1972. And in all of those years I have been unable to cultivate a taste for Latakia, as much as I have wanted to (I tend to straight Virginia's or Virginia/Perique blends). In most of the English blends I've tried, the Latakia was either overpowering or so scant, I could hardly detect it. But that was before I gave Murray's 1862 Whitehall a try. The Latakia adds just enough smokiness without taking over. The touch of Burley adds a slight nutty flavor and the Cavendish complements, ever so lightly, the natural sweetness of the Virginia's. This tobacco serves as a great introduction to English blends as well as a good tobacco to have in your rotation if you're not a big fan of Latakia...like me.
