Norman Rockwell "Downhearted" Ceramic Jar

In November of 1918, World War I was ending following the armistice. Life Magazine celebrated the event by publishing an issue with Norman Rockwell's "Are We Downhearted" on the cover. The smiling military members in the illustration answers the question. The Norman Rockwell "Downhearted" Ceramic Jar is a bail-closure ceramic jar that features an image of several men in military uniforms, some smoking pipes. The enclosure will help to keep your tobacco in fine shape for a good amount of time.

Fantastic jar! I’ve three of
Fantastic jar! I’ve three of these now and they keep tobacco well and ready to pack into my pipe. The Rockwell painting allows me to think of it as art and display it in our living room!

Nice jar but the hasp
Nice jar but the hasp is a little too weak. You have to keep squeezing it together when you close it.

Nice addition
Satisfied with the size, the hardware could be a little beefier

Cool Pic. Poor Latch.
Picture on the canister is a nostalgic look. But the quality of the hardware leaves much to be desired. Doesn't seal well enough for me to want to use it for anything other than pipe cleaners.

Decent. Wish it was made in the USA.
Happy. Gift for my Brother. Our Grandpa used to get the SATURDAY EVENING POST, with Norman's famous covers on them. It means a lot to us as Grandpa was on the only boat to get out of pearl harbor. And none of us grandkids or his kids would have seen the light of day if he wouldn't have made it. He was a one of the sonar guys deep in the bottom of the ship, under sea level, on the USS Taney. She's now parked in Boston. Perfect tribute.

Great Graphics
Just filled it with my everyday Barking Dog. I am really impressed with the graphics and hopefully it will hold up. I am in fact so impressed that am considering ordering one for my Jarhead son of a Jarhead.

This was a gift to
This was a gift to my husband who was in the military. He loved it! It is the perfect size and easy to open and close. Good graphics and looks like he could almost tell a story. Good quality item to pass down to generations. My first order, the lid came busted and customer care jumped right on it and sent one express! All around good experience! Nice collectible.

It's not bad but not great
I love the jar. The image is awesome and NR is just sweet. The quality could improve though. The seal isn't in the best condition and the metal clamp is off center pretty bad. Some of the image is shotty and missing or textured. Overall it's nothing too harmful and I like the jar.

Way to narrow to be useful.
Attractive and well made but to narrow. I can't get my hand into the jar to get tobacco that is more than 1/2 down the jar. The difficulty reaching tobacco greatly limits the usefulness of this product.

Downhearted Jar
The Norman Rockwell downhearted jar is like as described. This jar is one of three NR Jars in my collection. They are all wonderful works of art and serve well as humidors.

Beautiful jar.
Another one for collection. Beautiful jar, nice screening in it, nice silicone seal and bail that locks tight. I bought it as a combo special which included 16 ounces of tobacco and free shipping, so for $39.99 a good deal.
