Ole Shenandoah Barrel No. 76 Pipe Tobacco
Click the icons below for product information.

Ole Shenandoah Barrel No. 76

Faintly reminiscent of Lane's 1Q or RLP-6 aromatic offerings, yet in a class all its own. Upon first firing up Ole Shenandoah, your initial surprise will be the complete lack of tongue bite; this holds true consistently throughout the bowl, as this tobacco has the least tongue bite of any aromatic going. Barrel No. 76 packs easily, fires readily and simply refuses to go out. It burns completely to a fine, white ash, leaving minimal dottle to contend with in the bottom of the bowl. How is it for taste? Imagine a blend of warm butter with just a hint of vanilla and honey, then add sweet nutty overtones to round out the flavor. After the bowl is done, expect a pleasant lingering sensation on your palate with no bitterness at all. Mellow enough to be an all-day smoke.

One of my favorite aromatics
I always make sure I have a couple tons of this. It's not super sweet like many aromatics can be, but it's got a very nice vanilla with dark fruit something to it. I smoke at least 4 plus bowls per day and always like to mix it up between vapers, english, and aromatics so that my tastebuds stay interested. And this is one of my go-to's when I want something with some sweetness to it but not like I'm smoking a bowl of candy. Super good. I don't keep multiple backup tons of it on hand for nothing.

My Favorite!
I've been smoking a pipe since 1967 and have tried countless tobaccos. Ole Shenandoah Barrel No. 76 is the smoothest and best fragrance I have experienced. I've always preferred aromatics like this one, but the flavor is excellent as well.

A pleasant all day smoke.
I’ve been a long time English smoker, never much for aromatics but the sale price was too good to ignore. I read all the reviews and decided to give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised, the tin note was pleasant, not like other aromatics that when you open I can smell pina colada 1/2 mile away. The room note was pleasant, the wife Liked it. Smoked cool, no bite, nothing but ash left. Chocolate/Cherry/Brandy was not overwhelming, just the right hint of them. I am smoking this all day. You need to air this for maybe 15 minutes before smoking.

One of the good ones.
The tin note is amazing, and the flavor does not disappoint. Vanilla, hazelnuts, creamy... I am still developing my palate, but this is definitely one of the good ones.

My Hillbilly favorite. Pass the jug ruffus.
The more I smoke this the more I like it. Very nice room and tin note. Very pleasant smoke, burns well. moisture perfect right out of the tin.

Great Tobacco
Smokes cool and evenly with no bite. Pleasantly aromatic and very tasty. A perfect evening smoke.

Fantastic Smoke!
FANTASTIC! The tin note along with the room note reminds me of the old barber shop my Dad would take me to when I was a kid. There were a couple old men that would hang out there, talking about the weather and smoking a pipe. I ordered this along with the "Appalachian Harvest" but I like the Barrel 76 a lot better, but both are really good! Burns nice and cool with absolutely no tongue bite. Just finished a bowl out on the back patio with my ol pal Sunnye; my Golden Retriever. I think she likes it too!

Really impressed with the balance of this easy smoker.

Sweet smoke
This tobacco has quickly become one of my favorites. Extremely cool smoke, no harshness at all, aroma is heavenly and burns cleanly to the bottow of the bowl. Has plenty of sweet black cavendish.....totally awesome! I was lucky enough to get a tin of this before P&C's ran out of stock. Hope to buy some more soon.

yummy!!
Great tobacco and very tasty. Tasted like I was eating a mouthful of cookies. Also stays lit very well. Now I understand why this sells out so fast.

Old stand by.
As always my go to favourite. Tastes great and the wife loves the sweet smell.
5 out of 5
My favorite aromatic. Period.
This is the blend I've been looking for. The tin note is AMAZING...you almost want to eat it. It smells of figs, maybe raisins, with a honey sweetness that is just perfect. Lighting it was a pleasure, as it had the perfect moisture content right out of the tin...no drying time was necessary, at least for me. Tasted great on the char light and even better on the true light. Smokes all the way to the bottom with a fine, white ash being the only thing left. I hope this toby is around for a LONG time, because it is AWESOME.

I have smoked several varieties of pipe tobacco but this one by far out does them all. It is very mild, no bite, great aroma and no after taste. i am hooked on it and will continue to use it until something better comes along.

Best I've had in a long time
Barrel #76 is a pleasant, mild tobacco to smoke. I was desolate when we could not get it for a while, but it's baaack.

A Pleasant Smoke
I'm fairly new to pipe smoking. I found Ole Shenandoah Barrel No. 76 to be a very pleasant smoke. A lovely vanilla flavor at the top, not too moist, burns all the way to the bottom with a nice flavor.

Smells delightful
Could just be my pipes but this tobacco smells better than it tastes. Smells fantastic and smokes pretty good.

No bite
You can't go wrong with ole shenandoah line of pipe tobacco's I love the fact that barrel # 76 has no bite it has a great taste and the room note is amazing

Ok, 3 stars
I'm a big fan of aromatics and thought I was going to adore this tobacco based on its tin note of cocoa puffs cereal. There's a slight acrid taste that I just can't ignore. It will do in a pinch, but for me its an average aro.

Just a Good Anytime Tobacco
Excellent tobacco for any time! Packs well, smokes good and has a heavenly smell in the tin and the room note is awesome! I don't know why, but if packed properly, it wants to stay lit too..

Still The Best
Still the best of the Ole Shenandoah blends. Burns easy to the bottom of the bowl. No bite or after taste, nice aroma.

Really smooth taste and fantastic burn!
This is a very smooth, pleasant smoke. It burns better than any other tobacco I have tried for sure. I only wish it had a bit more flavor, I have a hard time discerning a distinct taste when smoking it. I don't get much vanilla at all. Don't get me wrong, it is still tasty, just nothing particularly special.

Excellent, stand-out aromatic blend!
I try lots of different aromatic blends, and every once in a while I come across one that really stands out- this is one of those stand-out blends. It is exceptionally good tasting, smells delightful and has great burn characteristics (stays lit, cool and burns completely). I normally do not care about the way a tobacco is cut, but the cut on this blend is so easy to pack that I feel like I have to mention it. I don't think that any aromatic lover would be disappointed in this blend. Very highly recommended!

Excellent product
Wonderful smoke! I have a very sensitive palette. Some would say I'm a wous. The fact is though, from start to finish, Shenandoah Barrel No.76 burns evenly with a clean signature in aroma and light on the tongue. I mix it one for one with Butternut Burley. I dont need to look any further for a tobacco that wont let me down. I hope they never stop making either one.

Great taste and value
Can't go wrong with this mellow aromatic. I'm finding notes of chocolate and licorice. Not too sweet. It's a mild blend, but the tobacco flavor does get through. The price is right too. It's in the rotation.
5 out of 5
Chocolatey and spirity
This aromatic is rare because it tastes almost as good as it smells. Very rarely needs to be relit and has very little, if no tongue-bite. It's chocolatey and spirity. My go-to for the time being.

A great, great smoke for an aromatic lover
Ole Shenandoah continues to be strong favorite of mine. It is pleasant to smoke, never any bite, smells great in the tin, and smells great once you touch a match to it. If you are an aromatic smoker, then this is definitely a candidate for an "all day smoker", giving it's sister blend (1Q, also from Lane) a run for the money.

Absolutely love it.
I'm not much of an aromatic guy, but this stuff is phenomenal. Very sweet, very smooth. Awesome room note.

Great smoke, no bite, smooth and cool. I smoke this on my way to work and sometimes on my way from work. My lady seems to enjoy the aroma as well, great plus.

Favorite By Far!!
Very mellow yet distinct. Flavors all mend well to give you a pleasurable smoke.

Exquisite. This gal's choice!
I'm a lady piper and I just love this tobacco--hands down my favorite. I don't like bitter tobacco or anything giving me a bite. This burns cleanly and evenly and I don't need to keep lighting it like others I've tried. Plus I don't "stink" after I've used this one, and I appreciate that very much! But the flavor...oh the flavor...fruity, warm, comforting, tasty. Just wonderful.

Pairs great with Vanilia Stout!
This is a great blend. Pipes and Cigars description is spot on. This is one of the few aromatics I have tried that is not sticky or syrupy. Great flavor and aroma that seems to last forever with no tongue bite. I recommend this blend to anyone looking for a mellow yet distinctive aromatic. I could smoke this all day long, but I need to make time for for my non-aromatics too. #stoutseason365

Maybe my go-to.
The first pipe tobacco I smoked as a new smoker. Really, really good flavor. Will keep this around.

Ughhhh
Not great but not terrible, pretty run of the mill stuff, smoked fine and taste was mild I mean I've had a lot worse but I probably wouldn't buy again but that's just me I smoke mostly English and have been trying to get into aeros but I'm beginning to see its gonna be a challenge to find my aero!

Love it!
I'm new to pipe smoking and got a few aromatic blends to try out initially. This blend has been my favorite by far. Wonderful aroma and taste. Moisture content was good right out of the tin. Stays lit and smokes cool. No tongue bite. Smokes great in the corncob I've been using. Very enjoyable!

Too good to be true, but it really is. No tongue bite, stays lit and the taste and aroma are heaven sent. Heck, my wife loves this stuff! My fav is still Miss. River, but this is right in the mix! Thanks, Dan

A very nice mild smoke with yielding a nice flavor and aroma.
Customer Testimonials
Sort of between 1Q and RPL-6. Easy smoke, nice aroma.
JD of Magog, QC
Excellent blend, smooth, no bite but good strong blend. Taste is subtly sweet and room note is a pleasure. This is my NEW go to every day blend and got it on the fantastic "auto deliver" program these PROs offer so as to not ever run out! If you haven't tried this blend yet, get on the ball because it is a great satisfying smoke and at a great price! I want to thank you all for the great service and wonderful selection you carry and good advice. Keep up the good work, if you do you've got a very satisfied customer for life here, can't find good tobacco here locally, it's all vapors and cigars and pipe smokers have just been left out unless you just want to settle for captain black that has been on the shelf for looooong time in a pouch. Really enjoy and appreciate the wide selection of delicious tinned tobaccos you offer here! Once again, thank you all for the great service and excellent web site!
CF of Jacksonville, NC
Really enjoyed this tobacco. Very nice flavor, burned very nice, and had a pleasant room note. It resembles Lane 1Q, but much better. It is very smooth smoking blend, and I don't think you will be disappointed
SB of Bellevue, NE
Very solid aromatic. Great aroma and flavor. I'm getting a ton of berry in the tin and room note as well as the taste.
JA of Antioch, TN
This stuff is awesome. I love it. So full of different flavors unlike anything I have smoked before. And I've smoked tons of different tobaccos. What more can I say . Great stuff for newbies or veterans.
GP of Lake George, NY
I got a tin of this in a buy3 get one free kind of deal. I was not expecting this to become my new favorite. I am an aromatic smoker predominantly (but who can say no to FMOP?), and this blend is amazingly well built. Perfect for sitting around and reading! It even got the wife smell approval. Try a can! You won't regret it!
MG of Watertown, WI
It's good, but milder than expected. So I added some vanilla extract and set it aside for a couple of weeks or more, and like it better.
TB of Baton Rouge, LA
I tryed this on the recommendation from a salesman at pipesandcigars.com,and I am really glad I did. This stuff is fabulous. Very full of flavor with complex notes. Very soft on the palate. It keeps you craving more as you smoke it. Very highly recomended. I love it!
GP of Lake George, NY
Love this tobacco! Really surprised to find so far that it really doesn't have a bite! Aromatic is not overpowering, but has great aroma and taste. Reminds me of warm pancakes with syrup in the morning! Great stuff, I ordered more!
AK of Casa Grande, AZ
Great tobacco. Smooth, no bite, great flavor. Others have commented how great it smells. Can't wait for the next 2 fer!
DW of Ponco City, OK
If you are getting bit on this tobacco, try opening the tin and letting it dry out some. You can also lay out some on a paper towel and let it dry in this manor. Either way, I believe you will really enjoy this great tobacco.
DW of Ponco City, OK
This tobacco is a Cavendish forward blend quite sweet fragrant but tongue bite is definitely a possibility if you puff hard the flavor is quite good except for my palate there is a slight off putting note that I can't quite put my finger on but I must say this blend does grow on you. give it a try if you like very sweet Cavendish forward blends
JC of peru, NY
This has become my go-to aromatic blend. A very mellow, all-day smoke that doesn't overwhelm with strong casings. Wonderful in a briar but really shines in a cob. Smokes well and stays lit, too. I'd put this towards the top of Lane's aromatic offerings.
JG of Winter Garden, FL
Great tobacco. Great flavor. Wife approved on the room note. And no tongue bite . Will buy this again.
AR of Mission Viejo, CA
Wow! What a great blend! So mellow and enjoyable all the way to the end of the bowl. Stays lit and doesn't taste "burnt" as you get to the bottom of the bowl. Far less tongue bite than others. Thoroughly enjoyable!
TF of Lake Elsinore, CA
Bought this as part of the Thursday Deal two weeks back. I've been smoking a pipe now for just short of a year and well I gotta say I wish I had known about this when I first started out. The blend is super smooth, very mellow with this nutty/vanilla hint to it that reminds me of this specialty stuff I picked up in Gatlinburg right when I first started smoking (Hell knowing them it probably was the same stuff). It's great straight out of the tin and packs very easily. I'd recommend it to a first timer who's struggling with all these brands out here.
JG of Cottontown, TN
As a fairly new pipe smoker I cant stand two things...Tounge bite and how many times I have to keep lighting my pipe before I get to the bottom. Ive tried just about all the Captain Black tobbaco blends and while they are ok it still gives me more tounge bite than I want and with a properly packed pipe I was still having to light up too many times before I finally got to the bottom with these blends. Usually 6 times or more to keep them going. Until Ol Shenanadoah came along and provided me with much better results in pipe smoking. Compared to that of Captain Black I received far less tounge bite with No 76 and it was quite pleaseant to experiance. It was easier to keep the pipe going as I only had to relite it 4 times for a complete smoke. I think this may contribute to the fact that cut of tobbaco is more fine than what the other Captain Black blends have. No. 76 does have a very sweet sent and gave off nice smoke. One other thing I noticed that I've never had with other brands is this left me with a slight tingly sensation on the tounge after smoking but not in a bad way or because of any severe tounge bite. Its just something I noticed. I would highly recomend Ol Shan No76 for new smokers like myself.
SR of Manchester, MI
Ordered the buy 2 get one free deal and got it today. Great can aroma.I have tried about 20 or so tobaccos over the last 2 or 3 years and this is by far the BEST burning one yet. Little to no bite, nice room note and one match per bowl... does seem to burn relatively quick though. Just ordered another 6 cans, love the cans!Sure to become one of my favorites.
WL of Woonsocket, RI
I am new to pipe smoking and the first few tobaccos I tried (Sutliff's Molto Dolce and Caramel Apple Pie) left me with tongue bite and some bitter after taste. Ole Shenandoah, on the other hand, blew me away. It truly will not bite and the room note is incredibly gentle and comforting. I gladly join the chorus of others who have said they consider this their go-to. It has become mine too...
MC of Inola, OK
Mild and mellow blend of black cavendish and burley. No tongue bite. Nice room note. Good all day smoke.
WK of Wadsworth, OH
Very nutty smoke with a hint of sweetness. Easy to pack and light, rarely have to relight once I get a pipe of it going. I found that the smell can be a bit overwhelming for non smokers.
JB of Lubbock, TX
Interesting blend, but not special enough to deserve big accolades. Good quality mix with complex smells, but with no dominant note.
AB of Maitland, FL
I love this mild, clean smoking blend. It has become my everyday blend. nice aroma, little but ash left when done. Easy burning and cool smoking. I hope they will add it to their bulk blends.
RG of Rocklin, CA
Ole Shenandoah Barrel #76 was a nice, smooth aromatic. Truly an enjoyable smoke. I'm going back for more. Wish it was sold in larger quantities.
CW of Gulf Breeze, FL
I smoke english blends, not aromatics but this tobacco is amazing. It has good flavor and pleasant aroma but no (ZERO) bite from beginning to end of the bowl. It packs so easy, stays lit and burns to the bottom of the bowl leaving just white ash. I'll buy and smoke this forever, in addition to my favorite latakia blends. Ole Shenandoah No.76 is terrific and my favorite all-day smoke.
JT of Rocklin, CA
I found it to be much sweeter than 1Q that it is compared to, so keep in mind if you like that blend, this will come across more pronounced in the casing department. Nice blend, but not worth buying over more reasonably priced bulks.
CW of Raleigh, NC
My go to daily smoke. This is everything they have said and more.
KA of Gilbert, AZ
Don't let the low price fool you, this is one fine smoke! I picked some up while it was on sale, and my only regret is not throwing another 6 tins in my cart. This blend is smooth as butter and perfectly balanced. This has become one of my favorite tinned tobaccos. This blend would be perfect for a new pipe smoker.
HS of Fayetteville, PA
I ordered through the buy 2 get 1 free offer and am glad I did. Very smooth, cool smoke with no bite and very little after taste. Good for several bowls a day. It burns well and complete. My wife really likes the aroma (not overpowering). I will definitely be ordering more.
TF of Martin, MI
Excellent aroma. Burns evenly, but not the tongue.
SY of Springdale, AR
This is as advertised a mild, very pleasant aroma tobacco. It gets rave reviews from me for smoking pleasure and being a dry smoke as well as plenty of complements from the wife and anyone in the near vicinity. It leaves a lovely room note.
JO of Hixson, TN
No bite, excellent taste, great room note, and inexpensive. There's nothing bad to say about this tobacco. I stocked up so that this can be a regular smoke for a long time.
MS of Spruce Pine, NC
I received 3 tins of No. 76 in the mail today--what a treat! I asked the guys at P&C for a few recommendations and this was one of them. They didn't steer me wrong. I've smoked one bowl in my new MM Legend and I'm hooked. The description says it's like 1Q but different. To me it's quite a bit better than 1Q. It has some pleasant after taste and doesn't leave me tasting ashes like I get with 1Q.
RS of Conroe, TX
Got the 2 fer 1 and mighty glad I did. About the only Aromatics I smoke are Distinguished Gentleman and Holiday Spirit. I immediately liked Ole Shen and so did Wifeie no bite just right, loved the room note and I think anyone that picks some up won't be able to put it down.
JG of Peoria, AZ
"Great" blend! I love it while fishing & bird hunting, as I'm not relighting it constantly. The taste is fantastic as is the room note. There's no tongue bite and it burns to a fine white ash at the bottom of the bowl. This is a great tobacco to enjoy in a duck blind while keeping your hands warm around your pipe!
PW of San Francisco, CA
I bought this as the 2 for 1 deal and immediately started smoking it the evening I received it. I enjoy this as an all day kind of smoke. It is light, mellow, and has slight hints of sugar and vanilla. The tin note is splendid and my wife tells me the room note is very sweet. I found that, for my pipes, the air pocket and Frank method packs the best. Definitely keeping this on rotation. Thanks P&C.
BW of SPRING, TX
P&C's description of this blend is pretty much right on the money. All I can add is that it lights easy, stays lit and needs very few relights and burns cool. The aroma is great and can be detected throughout my entire apartment. The taste is that of dark chocolate. The best thing about this blend is that I can now enjoy a good Burley without feeling like I set my mouth on fire. I hope this blend becomes a permanent addition to P&C's list of tinned tobacco as this is destined to be a top seller. Thanks P&C for making Ole Shenandoah available for all of us that prefer a good Burley blend.
WM of Greensboro, MD
I got a tin just before the buy 1 get 1 free deal came about, but hadn't tried it yet. I wish I would have, I definitely would have ordered more. Very pleasant - aromatic, but not TOO aromatic, just a real pleasant smoker. Smells great, but not too candy-like. The comparison to 1Q is spot on, but it is not quite the same. One puzzler - with a name like Ole Shenandoah I would have expected a little Virginia to be in the mix, not that the mix is bad or anything. Very nice, definitely will be part of my staple list.
CT of Waverly Hall, GA
Little more bite than they say, little less aromatic than they say, but not bad at all, good smoke.
RP of Kaplan, LA
I bought this because of the buy one get one free deal. I just smoked my first bowl and I was pleasantly surprised! Burns great and smokes nice and smooth with no tongue bite. It says it's an aromatic, but not quite. Nice flavor though! I'm going to have to buy more while it's still on sale.
BW of Pomona, CA
Very good tobacco. If it wasn't for Scotty's Butternut Burley and/or 1Q, this would be the one. BUT, no reason to switch. Nice name and tin but ranks a little lower in taste and aroma.
DW of Hollywood, FL
Almost sounds too good to be true. Ordered two tins last night and today they go on sale at half price- go figure!!! If the real thing comes close to the build up I may have a new favorite!!!!!
