Faintly reminiscent of Lane's 1Q or RLP-6 aromatic offerings, yet in a class all its own. Upon first firing up Ole Shenandoah, your initial surprise will be the complete lack of tongue bite; this holds true consistently throughout the bowl, as this tobacco has the least tongue bite of any aromatic going. Barrel No. 76 packs easily, fires readily and simply refuses to go out. It burns completely to a fine, white ash, leaving minimal dottle to contend with in the bottom of the bowl. How is it for taste? Imagine a blend of warm butter with just a hint of vanilla and honey, then add sweet nutty overtones to round out the flavor. After the bowl is done, expect a pleasant lingering sensation on your palate with no bitterness at all. Mellow enough to be an all-day smoke.
Sort of between 1Q and RPL-6. Easy smoke, nice aroma.
Excellent blend, smooth, no bite but good strong blend. Taste is subtly sweet and room note is a pleasure. This is my NEW go to every day blend and got it on the fantastic "auto deliver" program these PROs offer so as to not ever run out! If you haven't tried this blend yet, get on the ball because it is a great satisfying smoke and at a great price! I want to thank you all for the great service and wonderful selection you carry and good advice. Keep up the good work, if you do you've got a very satisfied customer for life here, can't find good tobacco here locally, it's all vapors and cigars and pipe smokers have just been left out unless you just want to settle for captain black that has been on the shelf for looooong time in a pouch. Really enjoy and appreciate the wide selection of delicious tinned tobaccos you offer here! Once again, thank you all for the great service and excellent web site!
Really enjoyed this tobacco. Very nice flavor, burned very nice, and had a pleasant room note. It resembles Lane 1Q, but much better. It is very smooth smoking blend, and I don't think you will be disappointed
Very solid aromatic. Great aroma and flavor. I'm getting a ton of berry in the tin and room note as well as the taste.
This stuff is awesome. I love it. So full of different flavors unlike anything I have smoked before. And I've smoked tons of different tobaccos. What more can I say . Great stuff for newbies or veterans.
I got a tin of this in a buy3 get one free kind of deal. I was not expecting this to become my new favorite. I am an aromatic smoker predominantly (but who can say no to FMOP?), and this blend is amazingly well built. Perfect for sitting around and reading! It even got the wife smell approval. Try a can! You won't regret it!
It's good, but milder than expected. So I added some vanilla extract and set it aside for a couple of weeks or more, and like it better.
I tryed this on the recommendation from a salesman at pipesandcigars.com,and I am really glad I did. This stuff is fabulous. Very full of flavor with complex notes. Very soft on the palate. It keeps you craving more as you smoke it. Very highly recomended. I love it!
Love this tobacco! Really surprised to find so far that it really doesn't have a bite! Aromatic is not overpowering, but has great aroma and taste. Reminds me of warm pancakes with syrup in the morning! Great stuff, I ordered more!
Great tobacco. Smooth, no bite, great flavor. Others have commented how great it smells. Can't wait for the next 2 fer!
If you are getting bit on this tobacco, try opening the tin and letting it dry out some. You can also lay out some on a paper towel and let it dry in this manor. Either way, I believe you will really enjoy this great tobacco.
This tobacco is a Cavendish forward blend quite sweet fragrant but tongue bite is definitely a possibility if you puff hard the flavor is quite good except for my palate there is a slight off putting note that I can't quite put my finger on but I must say this blend does grow on you. give it a try if you like very sweet Cavendish forward blends
This has become my go-to aromatic blend. A very mellow, all-day smoke that doesn't overwhelm with strong casings. Wonderful in a briar but really shines in a cob. Smokes well and stays lit, too. I'd put this towards the top of Lane's aromatic offerings.
Great tobacco. Great flavor. Wife approved on the room note. And no tongue bite . Will buy this again.
Wow! What a great blend! So mellow and enjoyable all the way to the end of the bowl. Stays lit and doesn't taste "burnt" as you get to the bottom of the bowl. Far less tongue bite than others. Thoroughly enjoyable!
Bought this as part of the Thursday Deal two weeks back. I've been smoking a pipe now for just short of a year and well I gotta say I wish I had known about this when I first started out. The blend is super smooth, very mellow with this nutty/vanilla hint to it that reminds me of this specialty stuff I picked up in Gatlinburg right when I first started smoking (Hell knowing them it probably was the same stuff). It's great straight out of the tin and packs very easily. I'd recommend it to a first timer who's struggling with all these brands out here.
As a fairly new pipe smoker I cant stand two things...Tounge bite and how many times I have to keep lighting my pipe before I get to the bottom. Ive tried just about all the Captain Black tobbaco blends and while they are ok it still gives me more tounge bite than I want and with a properly packed pipe I was still having to light up too many times before I finally got to the bottom with these blends. Usually 6 times or more to keep them going. Until Ol Shenanadoah came along and provided me with much better results in pipe smoking. Compared to that of Captain Black I received far less tounge bite with No 76 and it was quite pleaseant to experiance. It was easier to keep the pipe going as I only had to relite it 4 times for a complete smoke. I think this may contribute to the fact that cut of tobbaco is more fine than what the other Captain Black blends have. No. 76 does have a very sweet sent and gave off nice smoke. One other thing I noticed that I've never had with other brands is this left me with a slight tingly sensation on the tounge after smoking but not in a bad way or because of any severe tounge bite. Its just something I noticed. I would highly recomend Ol Shan No76 for new smokers like myself.
Ordered the buy 2 get one free deal and got it today. Great can aroma.I have tried about 20 or so tobaccos over the last 2 or 3 years and this is by far the BEST burning one yet. Little to no bite, nice room note and one match per bowl... does seem to burn relatively quick though. Just ordered another 6 cans, love the cans!Sure to become one of my favorites.
I am new to pipe smoking and the first few tobaccos I tried (Sutliff's Molto Dolce and Caramel Apple Pie) left me with tongue bite and some bitter after taste. Ole Shenandoah, on the other hand, blew me away. It truly will not bite and the room note is incredibly gentle and comforting. I gladly join the chorus of others who have said they consider this their go-to. It has become mine too...
Mild and mellow blend of black cavendish and burley. No tongue bite. Nice room note. Good all day smoke.
Very nutty smoke with a hint of sweetness. Easy to pack and light, rarely have to relight once I get a pipe of it going. I found that the smell can be a bit overwhelming for non smokers.
Interesting blend, but not special enough to deserve big accolades. Good quality mix with complex smells, but with no dominant note.
I love this mild, clean smoking blend. It has become my everyday blend. nice aroma, little but ash left when done. Easy burning and cool smoking. I hope they will add it to their bulk blends.
Ole Shenandoah Barrel #76 was a nice, smooth aromatic. Truly an enjoyable smoke. I'm going back for more. Wish it was sold in larger quantities.
I smoke english blends, not aromatics but this tobacco is amazing. It has good flavor and pleasant aroma but no (ZERO) bite from beginning to end of the bowl. It packs so easy, stays lit and burns to the bottom of the bowl leaving just white ash. I'll buy and smoke this forever, in addition to my favorite latakia blends. Ole Shenandoah No.76 is terrific and my favorite all-day smoke.
I found it to be much sweeter than 1Q that it is compared to, so keep in mind if you like that blend, this will come across more pronounced in the casing department. Nice blend, but not worth buying over more reasonably priced bulks.
My go to daily smoke. This is everything they have said and more.
Don't let the low price fool you, this is one fine smoke! I picked some up while it was on sale, and my only regret is not throwing another 6 tins in my cart. This blend is smooth as butter and perfectly balanced. This has become one of my favorite tinned tobaccos. This blend would be perfect for a new pipe smoker.
I ordered through the buy 2 get 1 free offer and am glad I did. Very smooth, cool smoke with no bite and very little after taste. Good for several bowls a day. It burns well and complete. My wife really likes the aroma (not overpowering). I will definitely be ordering more.
Excellent aroma. Burns evenly, but not the tongue.
This is as advertised a mild, very pleasant aroma tobacco. It gets rave reviews from me for smoking pleasure and being a dry smoke as well as plenty of complements from the wife and anyone in the near vicinity. It leaves a lovely room note.
No bite, excellent taste, great room note, and inexpensive. There's nothing bad to say about this tobacco. I stocked up so that this can be a regular smoke for a long time.
I received 3 tins of No. 76 in the mail today--what a treat! I asked the guys at P&C for a few recommendations and this was one of them. They didn't steer me wrong. I've smoked one bowl in my new MM Legend and I'm hooked. The description says it's like 1Q but different. To me it's quite a bit better than 1Q. It has some pleasant after taste and doesn't leave me tasting ashes like I get with 1Q.
Got the 2 fer 1 and mighty glad I did. About the only Aromatics I smoke are Distinguished Gentleman and Holiday Spirit. I immediately liked Ole Shen and so did Wifeie no bite just right, loved the room note and I think anyone that picks some up won't be able to put it down.
"Great" blend! I love it while fishing & bird hunting, as I'm not relighting it constantly. The taste is fantastic as is the room note. There's no tongue bite and it burns to a fine white ash at the bottom of the bowl. This is a great tobacco to enjoy in a duck blind while keeping your hands warm around your pipe!
I bought this as the 2 for 1 deal and immediately started smoking it the evening I received it. I enjoy this as an all day kind of smoke. It is light, mellow, and has slight hints of sugar and vanilla. The tin note is splendid and my wife tells me the room note is very sweet. I found that, for my pipes, the air pocket and Frank method packs the best. Definitely keeping this on rotation. Thanks P&C.
P&C's description of this blend is pretty much right on the money. All I can add is that it lights easy, stays lit and needs very few relights and burns cool. The aroma is great and can be detected throughout my entire apartment. The taste is that of dark chocolate. The best thing about this blend is that I can now enjoy a good Burley without feeling like I set my mouth on fire. I hope this blend becomes a permanent addition to P&C's list of tinned tobacco as this is destined to be a top seller. Thanks P&C for making Ole Shenandoah available for all of us that prefer a good Burley blend.
I got a tin just before the buy 1 get 1 free deal came about, but hadn't tried it yet. I wish I would have, I definitely would have ordered more. Very pleasant - aromatic, but not TOO aromatic, just a real pleasant smoker. Smells great, but not too candy-like. The comparison to 1Q is spot on, but it is not quite the same. One puzzler - with a name like Ole Shenandoah I would have expected a little Virginia to be in the mix, not that the mix is bad or anything. Very nice, definitely will be part of my staple list.
Little more bite than they say, little less aromatic than they say, but not bad at all, good smoke.
I bought this because of the buy one get one free deal. I just smoked my first bowl and I was pleasantly surprised! Burns great and smokes nice and smooth with no tongue bite. It says it's an aromatic, but not quite. Nice flavor though! I'm going to have to buy more while it's still on sale.
Very good tobacco. If it wasn't for Scotty's Butternut Burley and/or 1Q, this would be the one. BUT, no reason to switch. Nice name and tin but ranks a little lower in taste and aroma.
Almost sounds too good to be true. Ordered two tins last night and today they go on sale at half price- go figure!!! If the real thing comes close to the build up I may have a new favorite!!!!!
