Peter Stokkebye No. 24 Nougat is a classic Danish-style aromatic made of bright Virginias, white Burley and sweet black Cavendish. What makes it so unique is the combination of vanilla and chocolate flavors that give it a great room note and a subtly sweet taste. Nougat is one of Stokkebye's warmest, mellowest aromatics.
I am very new to smoking pipes. As a historic reenactor, I chose a pipe then shopped for a filler. I tried this blend and really liked it. Perhaps a bit harsh at first until I learned to appreciate the subtleties. Living in Vegas, I took my pipe and this blend to my favorite casino. There were no complaints from those around me.
I was excited to find this blend, as it was what my Father smoked when I was growing up. Yes, part of the appeal is due to some sentimentality. However, if you have any experience with multiple pipe blends, you know that the odds of getting a dud can be pretty high. Unlike many others, Nougat is sweet before and while burning. It's also a wonderfully mellowed leaf that retains the right amount of moisture that, without, will quickly kill the experience. The first draw gives a solid aroma and mixes the taste throughout the bowl. It will continue to gain heat until the last 15-20% of your load. I strongly recommend keeping one pipe for this blend alone; any time that I've mixed another, I felt that I'd polluted the effect. Light on bowl resin (it burns completely to a fine ash), however your stem will benefit from an inline filter, as I found a lot of build-up after 5-6 bowlfuls. Nougat is never harsh, yet plenty of nicotine. I truly love the room note. Perfect for smoke rings!
This is good stuff. I am usually a non-aromatic smoker. I love stokkebye's so I grabbed 4 ounces for a change of pace. If and when I smoke aromatics its usually in the summer. This is a light and smooth smoke, white ash all the way down with hints of vanilla and chocolate, no nasty casing. The tobacco is the front and dominate taste, no bite and lit right up.
I was so excited about ordering some of this that as soon as it came in a packed a bowl, and was let down a little. I had never bought any Stokkebye tobacco and was dying to try some. I was a tiny but disappointed when I tried it right out of the bag. I put it in a jar and let it sit a few days and now it is fantastic. While it is an aromatic and sweet, it doesn't leave you wanting. You want more, but nothing less. It is a full bodied pipe tobacco with a wonderful taste and pleasant aftertaste. I will definitely make this a regular.
