Peter Stokkebye No. 310 Black Latakia is made by hanging earthy Turkish tobacco over an aromatic fire, allowing the smoke to saturate the leaf until it turns black. The result is a tobacco that will impart a campfire-like flavor and aroma to a blend. It smokes exceptionally slowly and is a phenomenal component in creating your own English or Balkan-style blend. For consistency, Stokkebye Black Latakia is your best bet.

I love having PS 310
I love having PS 310 Black Lat on hand because I reach for it daily to add a large pinch to half the bowls I smoke each day, or even more often! I smoke it alone from time to time. I hope to keep some on hand always.

Love the smell of latakia.
Love the smell of latakia. This is a wonderful blend and one of my favorites, however it did arrive very dry. I've smoked a few bowls so far and there is no tongue bite and it's doesn't burn too fast. I may rehydrate a portion of this blend to see if it add/detracts from the experience.

Interesting.
Very earthy, but quite smooth on its own. Would make a great companion for some peaty scotch. Haven't blended it yet, but I suspect it's unique flavor will shine through.

Campfire Awesome!
It's like sitting in the forest after a long day of hunting, with a roaring camp fire. It's a little heavy for my aromatic peers but blended was an awesome smoke. I’ve smoked by itself and enjoyed it as well, but I’m like a good Mediterranean Latakia.

Excellent latakia
Not as satisfying or flavorful as the Syrian Latakia that is no longer available due to war in that country, but a dramatic addition to other tobaccos. Strong presence, wherever you add it. If you enjoy Latakia, you will not regret buying this, although do not expect to smoke this straight w/o blending.

Not as good as the other blending latakia
It's not too bad, but the smokiness of the regular blending Latakia is better to me.

Good old standard
I really like the flavor a good Latakia can yield to a blend of tobacco. It makes it rich and interesting.

Great tasting Latakia
This is primarily for mixing, but I'll admit - I've smoked it on it's own a few times & enjoyed it thoroughly - outstanding smoky flavor & aroma. I've bought other vendor's Latakias over time, but to my tastes, this one outshines then all...best I've found so far.

What a pleasant surprise!
Prior to this my only real experience with latakia was in captain black black Sea.... See my review of that for more information.... I bought a small bag of this last week when p&c was running a lovely sale on lane limited and I thought I would try it. As one of the reviewers mentioned the smell of the latakia totally overwhelmed the entire order and my house smelled like it for the first couple days it was here. I was skeptical... I am an aromatic fan and not that big into the robust smokes. So I was bummed that I had wasted my money. But I harkened back to a year or so ago when I was in Ireland and I smelled the peat fires burning and it reminded me of the latakia in the black Sea, so I says to myself, "self, you should pack a bowl and give her a run." I would have trouble putting into words how much I like this tobacco.... Not mixed, all by itself. It has a strange sweetness about it. I was expecting a bitter smoky flavor but what I got was a VERY pleasant smoke that really scratched my peat fire itch. Very robust, very slow burning, sublime. I will say the tounge bite is there. To the point that it will even numb your palate if you go to fast, but if you take your time and enjoy the smoke this is really great. Now I leave the bag on the counter in order to smell that peaty smoke even when I don't have time to sit and enjoy a bowl. A truly surprisingly lovely latakia from PS. Enjoy!!

Great smoke
Great condiment tobacco. I mix it with the PS turkish and PS perique.

I like it by itself
I realize most people use it for blending but I like it by itself. I do smoke some blends but 3/4 of the time just use pure Latakia.

Exactly as advertised
Sometimes the descriptors lie; unflavored black cavendish is nearly always flavored, perique isn't always perique, and who the heck knows what really comprises a scottish mixture - I certainly don't. When a home blending experiment says you need latakia, there's really only one way to get it. Cyprian latakia is exactly that, and nothing else. No misleading titles, no misdirective labeling, just good clean smokey latakia.

Good smell, but STRONG. Seems to dominate all other flavors.
I would advise most smokers to use this only for blending. It is VERY strong, especially just in the bag. When I opened my shipment, this was all I could smell, and I had to air out the other tobaccos for a while before they smelled of anything other than Black Latakia. Also, if you put much of this into a blend, and you have plenty of pipes, I think I would designate a particular pipe just for the Latakia blend. I tried it about 1 in 4 with Black Cavendish, and at that the Latakia dominated. With my rather limited knowledge, I would say it might enhance a burley or something, but at no more than 1 in 10.

I smoke it straight - incredible flavor
I have blended this several times with great results, but kept craving a bolder, smoker, richer smoke. Tried smoking a bit of this on its own - stunning. Incredible, rich, thick plumes of smoke reminiscent of a campfire. Pack it tight since it's dry. I love all things intensely smoky, from smoked meats to heavily peated Scotch malt whisky, and apparently straight Latakia. Will have to try some straight Dark Fired Kentucky next. This is the full, rich, bold, manly smoke I've been wanting. Absolutely spectacular.

The Latakia Great-The Rum and Maple is Terrible.
I have previously purchased Latakia so I wasn't surprised that it was great. I mixed two parts R&M one part Latakia. It was very bitey. I tried the Latakia and there was no bite at all. This leads me to think that the R*M will be scratched off my buy list.

Tried to match a blend that I used to buy before my tobacconist died; Black Cavendish, Toasted Cavendish, and a touch of Latakia. Great aroma! But don't use too much Latakia. 1/2 ounce or less to a pound of blended tobaccos is plenty. I tried 1 ounce in my first pound and instead of smelling great, it gave my girl a headache. I called it getting even.

Ammonia Explosion
My regular Latakia smoke is Mac Baren's H&H Latakia Blend. I was looking at the Stokkebye offerings for Dansk Black as one of my infrequent aromatic tobaccos and discovered it was no longer available. Bummer. Chose a different aromatic, saw this Black Latakia option and ordered 4 oz. to try. Tobaccos arrived today and I just finished 1/2 a pipe full and was halted by the sudden onslaught of ammonia. Very powerful, much stronger than the similar experience with immature cigars. I'll trying mixing this with the Stokkebye aromatic that arrived with this Lat Bomb. If that doesn't work I'll put it outside as ant repellent

A good new tryout!
I had never tried Latakia style tobacco before and I enjoyed the very distinctive aroma and smooth smoking experience. This will be great to add to other blends to give some character!

Does the trick
I let it get bone dry and then grind it into a powder. Then I just sprinkle it on or in anything I want to have that Cyprus flavor. Does the trick.

Incredible aroma
This Latakia is the same texture and smoky aroma like my great grandfather used to make. Not too overpowering and not too weak....just perfect !! Brings back some good memories of when tobacco was processed by curing it correctly and not by casings & chemicals. I love the way it taste and the way it smokes. This is my first time trying this brand of Latikia and I am stoked to try blending this wonderful prize.
Customer Testimonials
I love the taste of Latakia. I use it to create my own blend, but smoked a bowl of it before I made my blend. It can stand alone for my taste, and I'll be ordering a few ounces with my next order to smoke occasionally with nothing added.

I love this stuff, yes I do. I smoke it just the way it is. It is like Black silk. I also add it to 4.oz white burley '3.oz Virginia Red and a touch of 1/2 oz. Maduro and 1.oz of this Black silk Latakia and it is one of the fines smokes I've ever stuck a match to. 0ver 30+ years smoking and making and restoring pipes this is the one I keep at all time on hand. This is my everyday go to recipe.Blessed be A&R pipes.

I am well aware of the fine name Peter Stokkebye's tobaccos have around the world, however the last few times I have ordered any of their tobaccos, it seems the flavor and aroma has been lost to the air.

Very strong and dry. Don't buy unless you plan on using it to make your own blend. I mixed it with come vanilla Cavendish and N.C. tobacco to smooth it out
