Peter Stokkebye No. 311 Perique is a very unusual tobacco that is made in St. James Parish in Louisiana. A special strain of tobacco is packed under pressure for a year to carefully ferment the contents. The result is a sweet and spicy tobacco that will add body and character to a blend. Be cautious, though, it's pretty potent, and a little will go a long way.

Peter Stokkebye 311 Perique
This is a superb blending tobacco for my custom English blends. Every tobacco I purchase of Peter Stokkebye demonstrates consistent quality and performs admirably in the pipe. While I don't smoke every blend in their product line the ones that I do are exceptional in every way. The quality is in the smoke. Thank You.

The taste of Peter Stokkebye 311 perique is delicious!! I enjoy mixing and pressing my own tobaccos and this is a perfect compliment while blending! It won’t disappoint

My favorite Perique
I like the Peter Stokkebye 311 much better than the more expensive brands of Perique. I can smoke it straight or blend into a vapor or english with astonishing results in flavor. Always lots of beautiful white billowing smoke, hardly ever bites and stays lit in the pipe without going out. My 2nd time purchasing this brand of Perique from P&C.

Perfect for blending with 84 (Turkish)
PS311 is a delightfully unique, unusual, specialty tobacco initially developed by Native Americans who using a technique whereby additive-free sun-ripened virginias are packed snugly into oak barrels to warm-ferment for a full year, then they're unpacked, restacked, repacked and allowed to re-ferment still further, to finish the process. The result is a dark, intense, and complex bouquet of estery and phenolic fermentation nuances that include (for me) portabello mushrooms, the musky/minerally bite of ground white pepper, the estery funk of Chinese Puerh Shu Tea and the complex dry tang of Belgian gueuze lambic ale, with faint hints of sour cherry. Anyway, returning briefly the tea metaphor - the perique process has many similarities to the way green tea leaves are fermented to darken and intensify their flavor and caffine content (thus producing ‘black tea’) ... the Perique process accomplishes the same effect in tobacco, which develops flavor intensity and complexity while also boosting nicotine content. It’s unique and funky stuff, and just like Single Malt Whiskies vary from barrel to barrel, the same is true for barrels of Perique. It’s definitely an acquired taste, which makes it ideal for blending - most commonly with bright Virginias. My favorite use for PS311 is for blending with PS84 (Turkish Virginia). Both are natural untreated tobaccos having the same fine filligree ribbon cut ... a few swipes with a chef knife, and gentle tossing, yields an excellent (and inexpensive) blend for use in cigarettes. The light and bright virginias are the base for the blend, and the musky peppery tang of the perique adds some much needed backbone and nicotine oompf. If you’re a fan of menthol, simply fill a small 1 oz perfume mister with 180 proof vodka, grind a few menthol crystals with a mortar & pestle into powder, dissolve it into the perfume bottle, and use it to gently mist your blend ... the alcohol evaporates rapidly, leaving behind only the menthol.

"...why did i do this...."
So my personality brought me to trying straight Perique. I like to push the my comfort zones and after two go rounds with this 311, I am gonna have to retire it into a blend with some simple Va. It's strong, and when it jumps on ya, there is some serious room spinning and head pressure. I wanta keep pushing to enjoy it alone, but it feels like I'm signing up for a crap ton of hangovers to do so. Yea, actually turning my focus into sampling my first attempt to blend my own.

Not my style
I wanted to try this tobacco plain, just to know. I found nothing wrong with it, except that it was not what I like. I prefer Cavendish, so it should be no surprise there. I was glad I tried it, just to know

High Quality Perique
This is my first time trying this brand of Perique and with no regrets. It compares with the home grown stuff that my grandfather used make in his curing barn. Taste great, smokes great and moisture content is perfect leaving only ash and dottle. Does not burn too hot like other Perique I've tried. Makes great tasting blends !!

Sweetest Ive found.
Seems to provide a sweeter result when blending than other Perique products. I wonder why when all is from the same place?

I have had this straight before, I agree with JB there is something "off" about this. Will do fine as a mixer.

Very strong! Should be mixed with other tobacco to bring out flavor.

Peter Stokkebye's 311 Perique does not have as much of the full, fruity aroma and taste I love in a perique. It tastes like it is old and had too much air. I will probably choose another brand next time.
