Peter Stokkebye 52 Proper English

Peter Stokkebye No. 52 Proper English has become a staple for Latakia lovers everywhere. This medium-bodied blend has plenty of Cyprian Latakia supported by fine bright Virginias and exotic Orientals. Remarkably rich and fragrant, it's also amazingly smooth and cool-smoking. Without any Burleuy or Cavendish added, this is truly a Proper English blend.

Great service.
Arrived on time, well packaged and in good condition. The tobacco was a bit wet still, but no more than usual.

This is it for me
My search is over. 52 Proper English is milder than other "English" blends I've tried. More flavorful than any Va/Per. Love the room note. The note has just a hint of spice to it. I actually walked in and out of the room several times after the bowl to smell the effect. It burned very well once going, but took more than one relight after char. I enjoyed it so much that I had zero dottle, which I've never been able to say after sampling several dozen other blends. It burned fairly cool, and didn't gurgle in my Peterson. I found this blend to have zero bite, and absolutely no resemblance to cigarette smoke. Knowing my first order will go quickly, i plan on buying a pound, post haste. I liked it so much that I'm actually writing a review!

Different
It's a cross between an english blend and aromatic. I like it but not enough to buy a pound. Certainly worth a try.

I wasn't a fan of this tobacco!
I would not recommend this tobacco blend to anyone who roles their own cigarettes. Not only did it have a bad smell it tastes awful! Bought two pounds and had to throw it away. Truly a waste of money!

OK, but very mild
Very mild, probably too much Virginian for my taste.

PS Proper English
A very good mildish English blend, and my all day smoke. Good amount of Latika, but not a Lat Bomb. Highly recommend this blend.

This is it
I can now stop looking for the best English tobacco, this is it.

Solid English flavor, just not for me.
Heavy smoke flavor that blends well with the Peter Stokkebye #701 Virginia but otherwise a bit too heavy for me. Will try a blend lighter in Latakia next time.

First order of 52 but not my last!
First time ordering 52 Proper English really enjoyed it had a nice taste to it.

Amateur Review
A pretty decent English-style smoke. Doesn't have the "oomph" of Nightcap, and seems a bit lighter than London Mix. In my experience, keep this stuff damp, if it starts getting dry the flavour just vanishes. Yes, it is a pretty good smoke. The price doesn't hurt, either.

My first favorite English blend tobacco
I'm new on the scene with non-aromatic, so my opinion may not carry much weight, but I think this is a great smoke. Strong enough to keep my attention, and smooth enough to be a regular. Wonderful room note.

Very Good!
Amazing blend. Very strong English. A stronger version of Dunhill Nightcap with a unique taste..

Poor aroma
Did not like this blend at all. Too much tongue bit and a disagreeable aroma. The tobacco was fresh, but my least favorite.

Proper English
English Blends are my favorite smoke. Peter Stokkebye is one of my go to smokes. Great smoke at a great price.

This really is the Proper way to enjoy English.
Of the three P.S. bulk blends I purchased... Proper English is the most traditional of them all. Open the shipping box and you already know you are in for a Lat treat. Great blend as a first or last pipe of the day. The blend supports itself throughout the bowl, its not singular by any means and brings great enjoyment from the char light to the last puff. It leaves a nice aftertaste that reminds you that you just had a great English smoke. Two thumbs up.

Great Blend
Nice blend of tobaccos and the latakia comes thru just right.

Great to Use as a Blend
Exceptional aroma without selling itself as a true aromatic. When smoked straight, though, it's a bit "hot" on the tongue. I blend it with the much milder Peter Stokkebye Optimum, to add the unique aroma. Cut it in about 4:1 ratio. (4 parts Optimum, 1 part Proper English). Best "aromatic" mild blend I've discovered and it will now be my blend going forward.

A Must Try English
Great smooth smoke with just enough bite to remind you that you are smoking English. Latakia not over the top. A very well rounded balance. Wouldn't change a thing. Have a glass of whiskey with it and there is no way you will give less than a 5 star review.

Great smoke but....
....but now I'm confused. Stokkebye English Lusury has been my go to smoke since I first tried it from P&C. I like the English blend so I thought I'd try PS52 Proper and now I can't decide which one I like better. I'll just have to keep both in stock

Peter Stokkebeye 52 Proper English
I really like the smell & flavor of the tobacco that is why I now have 8oz on hand. Great from the first put to the bottom of the bowl. Lee

Poor substitute
I have been smoking Peter Stokkebye Black Currant Cavendish for years but it was discontinued. This is a poor substitute and I will not be rebuying.

Pleasant British blend
As a long-time lover of British blends, I find this to be a pleasant and enjoyable smoke.

Acceptable English
The tobacco was a little dry out of the package but added 2 button humidifiers to moisten. Ncecesary because I tend to puff fast. Medium strength, smoked cool even for me. Smoked 2 times/day w/no bite. Smoked in large egg shaped bent & medium Rhodesian. Was told the aroma in my cave was not unpleasant. Will try a 2nd lb.

Good smoke
As good as Fox n Hound, with a mellow taste.

Dunhill-esque
It closely approaches the qualities of a Dunhill (much more than English Oriental Supreme, also by Stokkebye). Considering the price, quite attractive!

Great blend
Great Balkan style blend. My go to blend along with mm965. In my opinion a bit more on the mild side but still with great flavor and no tongue bite.

Proper English
Proper English is my favorite tobacco blend. My local tobacco shop here in Dallas cannot keep a steady supply. Your service shipped my order promptly. I look forward to ordering more in the future.

Perfectly Proper English
The Peter Stokkebye 52 Proper English is the perfect smoke for me. I appreciate the folks at Pipes and Cigars for their swift service and top-shelf tobacco. Five stars!

A little goes a long way!
A very good rich blend. Beware, it isn't for the light hearted!

Great Value and Fabulous Blend Combination
If you enjoy the taste of naturally flavored English/Balkan tobacco blends, especially those with a fair amount of Latakia in the mix, then you'll probably really like this one. It is my everyday, all day smoke (usually 5 to 6 pipes). When I first came across this blend I didn't know it was one of Peter Stokkebye's, which is a good thing because I was not prejudiced against it, and was pleasantly surprised when I learned it was. Another great reason to consider this blend, especially when you find you really enjoy it so much, is the price per pound. Are there other blends, perhaps more complex or slightly more favorable on the market? Sure there are, and I indulge myself from time to time in them; but the cost to value factor is too much of a disparity to supplant Proper English as my "go-to" blend on a daily basis.

Peter Stokkebye 52 Proper English
This is my favorite English blend. It is consistent from top to bottom. If I smoke a bowl in the house though, the wife says she "thought the house was on fire"....I have some aromatics to please her, but this one is strictly for me.

Perfect indeed
The smoky and exotic fragrance hits you as soon as you open the bag. Smokes cool, very unctuous and smooth. Just the perfect amount of Latakia balanced with the orientals that give the flavor profile of a great English blend. This is my go to from morning till the wee hours.

Props
A good everyday smoke.

Good smoke
This is a nice moderate to mild English blend that has a nice fragrant almost floral scent to it, I'm guessing due to the Orientals that are in the blend. All around great smoke that I enjoy with a nice cup of tea.

My Favorite Latakia Blend
Not much to say that hasn't been said in the other reviews. I've tried a number of Latakia blends, but this is my go to.

PS Smoke Signals
An excellent full flavor tobacco with latakia that is not overpowering and is supported by the Virginias and provides a nice billow of smoke without a lot of effort due to my choo choo train smoking style. Not to experienced with English blends due to my enjoyment of VA/per flakes and coins but this tobacco blend seems to hit those taste buds without any discerning hits, smooth is the word regarding this blend. I feel like a true pipe smoker when my pipe is filled with this blend, smoke billowing from the bowl, smoke rings are the norm, and flowing from my nostrils, when I smoke this one and it burns nice in all of my pipes...the only pipe I dedicate to certain tobacco is my meer for the VA/pers I truly favor. However, the room note is not a favorite with my wife but she doesn't smoke any of my pipes and I don't do aromatics...I tried but I like my tobacco's like my coffee roasts, full flavored. An excellent purchase and will buy again.

One of My Favorites
This is a very good English blend! Personally, too much Latakia for me. But the Latakia and Orientals are put together nicely. If you like English blends, you should try this one

Proper English is a keeper!
I ordered four ounces of Proper English during P&C customer appreciation week. Based on thd reviews and my experiencd with PS flake tobacco, I figured it was worth chancing. The tobacco was very smokey smelling and came in a fine ribbon cut of blacks, light and dark browns. I loaded up my Nording unfinished freehand, a nice big bowl, and lit up. The pre-light smell and after light taste reminded md of PS Balkan Supreme. The tobacco lights and stays lit. The tobacco provided voluminous smoke. I love tobaccos that provide creamy thick smoke and not just wispy smoke. I want a smoke screen! And it provided. For the taste and price, PS #52 Proper English is a keeper. Thanks to other reviews for the high reccommendation. .

2ND. BEHIND PS ENGLISH LUXURY
This is a nice, relaxing smoke,.....but.... I spent about a month deciding which I liked better, English Luxury or Proper English. When the jury returned, it ruled in favor of English Luxury. For me the Burley and Cavendish in the Luxury seemed to give a smoother, tastier smoke. If the Proper English had more Virginia, that might have made up the deficit. Then again, when I want Virginia...I want VIRGINIA! Such as PS Luxury Twist Flake. (I just wish P&C would order 4 or 5 times as much of the Twist Flake as they do, so they could keep it in stock.) All things considered, I did enjoy the Proper English blend and I will order it again, but I rate it 2nd. best.

A Fine All Day Everyday Smoke
I consider this the quintessential English blend, An even consistent smoke that wears well from morning to night. Not necessary to addend the "for the price" which is very reasonable. Would be an excellent smoke at any price.
Customer Testimonials
Very nice! I can actually taste the Latakia. My wife stuck her head in the door and asked what I was smoking. She liked the aroma and said it wasn't "heavy" and didn't smother her like some tobaccos. Believe me when I say that is a real compliment.
My first English blend. i was intimidated by the latakia as it was so different from what i was used to (aros). Wow. i can now say that i did not really know what a cool smoke was until now. I get it now! this is stuff is fairly light, super cool, stays list and quite pleasant! This is/was my gateway to the English blend world. Flavorful, cool, pleasant.
The last time I smoked a true English tobacco was 1986. I purchased a pipe and tobacco in Hong Kong at the Royal China Fleet Club. I numbed my lips and tounge. It was a far cry from what I was smoking Captian Black Gold. Today was the second time I smoked a true English. Let me say this is a man's smoke. Nice and mild if you don't puff fast and hard. It satisfies immediately. At the tail end you will taste the sweet Virgina , but the Oriental is most prominent. I highly recommend PS PE if you want a substantial robust smoke.
This is my favorite everyday blend. Wonderful taste and room note. A bowl of PE lasts a long time, burns relatively cool, and leaves nothing but fine grey ash. Highly recommend!
Another great blend from Peter Stokkebye. This blend captures the flavor and essence of Dunhill's My Mixture 965 very well at a more affordable cost to you as the consumer. Highly recommended!
I ordered this mix based on the recommendation of the customer service agent. I informed her that I am a big fan of English mixes and was looking for an all day smoke. She then said that this would be the best bet. I couldn't agree more. PS has my top two favourite mixes. This is now my primary smoke, followed by English Oriental Supreme for dessert.
One of my favorite blends ever. I always keep a pound of it around. If you like Latakia then you will love this blend. Tasty, smooth, and ages well.
I just recently bought a pound of this based off the reviews as it sounded something like I would enjoy. I am glad I did or I'd be handing it out to friends. It's really nice cool smoke. No bite. Nice room note. Will def by again once my pound is gone....
I've been a long time fan of Dunhill London Mix, and this is as close as I've found to it in a bulk tobacco.. It seems to have a bit more Latakia, which is all the better to me. The flavor is rich, with little to no bite. This will definitely be my primary English blend now.
Ordered 5lbs. Will always keep this around. One of my favorites.
Peter Stokkebye 52 Proper English is a blend that has enough Latakia to end up on my list of favorite tobaccos. It burns great and has a good taste. This is a blend that I will keep purchasing as I do not want to run out of.
Very nice tobacco, mild and cool smoke! Has a very distinct room note! No problems with lighting and burns to the bottom of the bowl! Reminds me of EMP and John Bull but milder! Will keep some of this around!
I AM A HUGE FAN OF PETER STOKKEBYE - PROPER ENGLISH IS NOW ONE OF MY TOP 11 FAVORITES - LATAKIA IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE TOBACCOS AND PS PE CONTAINS A LOT OF IT - RICH FLAVOR - FULL FULL BODY - IT'S A VERY SMOOTH SMOKE - LOVE THE TASTE AND ROOM NOTE AS WELL. IF YOU SKEW TO ENGLISH BLENDS - PROPER ENGLISH IS A KEEPER - IT'S IN THE TOP 14 OF MY FAVORITES - AS I SIT IN MY OFFICE - LOOKING OUT TWO LARGE WINDOWS ON A BEAUTIFUL DAY - I WILL BE FILLING MY PIPE BOWL WITH SOME PE AND ENJOYING A LATE AFTERNOON SMOKE. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS OUR AMERICAN MILITARY WORLD WIDE!!
