Peterson Elizabethan Mixture Sale

For all of the P&C Faithful who were concerned that Dunhill tobaccos had disappeared forever - good news! The blends are back using the same exact blends and tobaccos, coming from the same factory. The only thing that's different is that they are now under the Peterson name. Even the classic artwork remains.

Peterson Elizabethan Mixture is one of the standards among Virginia/Perique blends. While the Perique is readily apparent, the real stars are the wonderful Virginias, which are carefully matured under pressure and heat to develop a depth of flavor unlike anything else.

VAPerlicious!
Hell of a VAPer, from tin note to the last sip. It’s just not knockin me down on the floor crazy for it, why it’s a 4 for me rather than a 5. I’m fairly new to piping, so haven’t had the time yet to really put some age on things. Perhaps with 3-5 years on this it goes to the hard to attain 5. Look forward to finding out!

Everyday All Day Vaper
I love this stuff, great blend of Va and Perique. It’s just right for an all day smoke. It’s easy to reach for this blend everyday. The cut burns well, and it’s just easy smoking.

Very nice blend, a top
Very nice blend, a top notch Va/Per comparable to Escudo Navy Deluxe. I thought it was a touch sharp, but I expect a few months of aging to take care of that nicely.

My Desert Island Blend
As the old thought experiment goes: if you were stranded on a desert island and could only have one blend with you, what would it be? EM is that blend for me. I simply cannot live without it. I never get sick of it. It's never fatiguing. And I always look forward to smoking it.

Not as bad as I once thought
I personally used to HATE this blend. 3 is a high step up for me. Originally, this blend used to be sour, and burned way too hot, and almost instantly turned to ash. After trying it again, learning to pace myself much better, this tobacco has grown on me, Not by much, but it has definitely grown. Not much of a grassy taste if you’re looking for that in a Virginia. The perique is the CEO in this situation. The Virginia is nice and deep and rich. I personally use it now to break in my Virginia pipes

Good VaPer
After being an aromatic smoker for a while, i am finally branching out. Elizabethan has been nothing short of a good blend to me. Compared to Hearth and Home Louisiana Red, this is exceptionally mild in flavor, but it hits the spot if you want a solid nicotine fix mid day.

This is a semi-sweet even
This is a semi-sweet even burning tobacco. Perfect for small and large bowls. It is an only slightly moist tobacco, but it burns evenly and very well. I enjoy the flavors and it has nice thick rolling smoke to view.

A Moment I'll Remember
I had one of those perfect smoking moments trying Elizabethan for the first time just recently. It was an uncharacteristically warm night for November, and the rain was coming down. I took some cover out of the wind and had my first bowl ever of this stuff. While I enjoyed it, I watched the insects and worms creeping out of the rain into my area. Where I live it is not typical to see such life at this time of the year. It was like finding a rift in the regular passage of time, and being able to relax there for a second to take in what has been going on in my life the last few years. I took advantage of it enjoying my thoughts and warm smoke as the cool rain fell down just outside the little sanctuary. I will remember that smoke for a long time.

The Perfect Vaper
Fabulous Vaper. Sweet tin aroma from The mature Virginias. The Parique adds just enough spice to get the Virginia tobacco to top its potential. Low nicotine and no tongue bite. Burns to white ash. One of the best Vapers available and with the ribbon cut the packing your pipe is flawless.

A lovely Va/Per.
I just re-upped with ten tins of Peterson Elizabethan Mixture. I still have four three year old tins left in the cellar, and they have aged remarkably well. This is a fairly stout blend, with a goodly amount of nicotine, so fill your tummy up with a good meal, and enjoy a relaxing bowl full of Elizabethan Mixture. I've been enjoying it in a small Calabash gourd pipe that was made in 1908. It has a sterling silver ferrule and a sterling silver top over the meerschaum bowl insert. The silver is hallmarked : Sterling, Birmingham, 1908, so this pipe is a hundred and fourteen years old. It's the perfect pipe for smoking Elizabethan in. If you've never smoked a Calabash gourd pipe, you may want to consider buying one. They deliver a rich, smooth, and room temperature smoke, that never ever bites my tongue regardless of what type of tobacco I load into one of these remarkable pipes. I have seven Calabash gourd pipes, and I can't say enough good things about them. The gourds color over time, to a rich burgundy red color, and they are beautiful pieces of functional art. I digress, get yourself some Viprati, and give it a try. If you feel extra adventurous, buy a Calabash gourd pipe to enjoy your Elizabethan Mixture in, you will thank yourself many times over on both counts.

Great smoke!
This was my introduction into non-aromatic blends and I was very impressed. It came in the very standard ribbon cut, which I enjoy. The tin note was of soggy hay which was pretty pleasant despite how that sounds. Flavor for me was bready with a slight sweetness of stewed fruit. The Perique was strong initially but mellowed out and blended well throughout the smoke. Overall, a good buy and would recommend.

Please add to my latest review
This blend is very well behaved, it was at the perfect moisture level, and I aired it out a bowl at a time for about ten minutes. It takes a light well and stays lit. I have no trouble getting to the bottom of of the bowl with a minimal amount of re-lights. The ash is white and fine.

An excellent VaPer
I bought ten tins of Peterson Elizabethan Mixture in March of 2020 and I just opened the first tin today, after 20 months of aging. I had been smoking a pipe for over thirty years when I discovered the joy of VaPer blends. I'm all about them now, and this is a good one. It's the first time I've tried it since the name change, but I can't tell any difference between the Last few years of Dunhill Elizabethan and the Peterson. The tin note is slightly tangy with a hint of fruity Perique, it's smooth and slightly peppery, with a sweetness of high quality Virginia. The Perique is not overdone, it's there, but in just the right amount. I just finished my third pipe, and they were remarkable smokes. I used clean meerschaum pipes to get an accurate flavor profile. I doubt this one will ever leave my rotation, it just plain good stuff!

I was asked to rate
I was asked to rate this tobacco. I’m not very good at going into going into great detail about pipe tobacco. I prefer English blends. If I could have only three blends the would be Early Morning Pipe, 965, and Elizabethan. The last is a full body tobacco that I find very enjoyable.

Should be sold in 3.5oz tins
One of my most smoked blends. Just the right level of sweetness, slight fruit and breadiness. With whiffs of grass or hay. It ages very well. I wish they sold this in larger tins.

First VaPer blend and I’m in love!
Newer to pipe smoking, I started with aromatics, worked my way to English blends, and this was my first Virginia Perique blend. I have to say I’m in love. Tin note is fruity and earthy. Smells delicious. Upon lighting, found it to be very smooth. Sweet with a bit of pepperiness. Room note smells delicious. Very enjoyable, now i know why people enjoy VaPer blends!

Good Stuff
This VAPer is light on the Perigue; just a touch, but it's there. I took about half the tin and mixed it with an equal amount of Rustica, teased out from the flake. Rustica straight is extremely bold, but the mix with Elizabethan made for a rich and satisfying smoke. On its own, Elizabethan is very good.

Thirty 8 years into the
Thirty 8 years into the wonderful art of smoking pipes and it is just lately that I have begun concentrating on Vapers! Elizabethan was the right move. Pure tobacco taste; a healthy amount of zip, without any tongue bite; burns well; the smoke has a discernible weight to it; the blend is spot on, with the Virginia's occupying the lead and the Perique bringing up the rear. Personally, I prefer smoking this mixture outside in the fresh air.....as the nicotine hit ( inside) can be a bit bold. Anytime of day, really, but an especially good treat after lunch. No need for a full bowl every time. Great cut ..... packs well, lights easily. I can't see how anyone who likes Vapers would not have this in their rotation. It will definitely remain in mine 😉

Yeah. This is Elizabethan.
For years this was my favorite. This version seems very accurate, Elizabethan is not a spectacular tobacco--never has been. It is a well behaved, slightly sweet, slightly, sour, slightly spicy, tangy blend. It is well balanced and simply works. Medium in flavor and strength. If you push it it will go bitter on you. It is another blend that wants you to relax and keep a moderate pace. Smoked correctly it can be exceptional. It is a blend that needs to match your body chemistry on that day to really show its character.

Spot on re-issue, it's just like I remembered.
This was one of my staples, under the Dunhill name, along with Early Morning Pipe, My Mixture 965, Nightcap, Standard Mixture. I was seldom so pleased as when Peterson picked up the torch, and began releasing these blends under their own name. Peterson Elizabethan is, IMO, spot on to the original, I can't detect any difference. This is one of my favorite VaPers, and I actually like the Match version of this one very well too. Elizabethan is one that I usually cellar for a year or two, so I purchased four tins (also four tins of EMP, 965, Nightcap, and Standard Mixture), one for now and three for later (and I plan on ordering even more for the celler). I opened the first tin, and was greeted with a very pleasant and familiar aroma, sweet and figgy, with a complex creamy undertone. The cut of the tobacco was spot on to the original, being a fine ribbon. Moisture content was perfect for smoking right out of the tin (as all of the Dunhills were). It packed nicely, lit easily, and stayed lit very well. It got into the 'zone' quickly, and delivered a sweet and smooth smoke, just like I remembered. The Perique makes itself present very quickly, with a peppery dried fruity taste The nicotine was on the high side of medium, just right for a pipe any time of the day. My conclusion was that that 'They're Back'! I had the same conclusion with the other blends I mentioned. I'm very grateful to Peterson for bringing back our beloved Dunhill blends, if you (like me) enjoyed the Dunhill blends, you will not be disappointed with the Peterson re-issues. They even kept the cool Dunhill tin art, it's exactly the same except for the change in the name from Dunhill to Peterson.

Quality
I try to at least finish one full tin before I feel that I can accurately gauge a tobacco. Also, I let it sit in a sealed Mason jar for a couple of weeks and it has gotten much better. Elizabethan has a wonderful tin Aroma. It is obviously made of quality tobaccos and I’ve learned to quite enjoy it. I have smoked a pipe for about eight months now. I am still shopping around for “My” flavor. So, G.L. Pease and now Peterson’s Dunhill blends have proven to be top notch.

I've been on the pipe for some years now but I decided to light it up again. After smoking some of my older tobaccos that didn't age Well,im I decided I ought to revisit this gem after having gone through several tins back when. Elizabethan Buzz
Nice smoke, but not for the new pipe smoker. Heavy nicotine buzz, so don't smoke it too quickly. Burns really well right out of the can. not sure why they ruined the tin art with the "SMOKING KILLS" label, which takes up half of the tin.

A Great Tobacco that will be Sorely Missed!
It is very unfortunate that this tobacco will not be around much longer with Dunhill's announcement to close this portion of their business. Very sad indeed, because I must say, I will greatly miss this perfect blend of tobacco! A delightfully smooth and enjoyable smoke with just the right mixture of Virginias and Perique! For those who enjoy English blends and the aroma of tobacco, this would serve you well.

Excellent VaPer!! But it's better with some age.
I have read many reviews where people claim to go from not liking this blend, to downright hating it, but I am not one of those people. A certain YouTuber sang the praises of this tobacco so much that I had to see what all the fuss was about. I'll admit, my first bowl of Elizabethan didn't leave a good impression at all....so much that I considered sending it to a friend. I held off on that, and jarred it up...storing it for a few months. One day I decided to revisit this to give it a more fair shot, and was I ever glad that I did. Spending a few months in a sealed jar did WONDERS for this blend!! Whereas the first bowl assaulted me with a black pepper tasting hot smoke....this time around I was greeted with an incredible sweetness with just the right amount of spice. The body of the smoke was full, but not overwhelming, and the nicotine hit was intense..(do NOT smoke this on an empty stomach). This second time around, the Perique was less peppery, and more raisin flavored. I found that I was able to get the best experience out of this from a Churchwarden, but as this blend's biggest YouTube fan would say, "Your mileage may vary". I have a small stockpile of this that I'll hold onto, since Dunhill has announced that production of all Dunhill blends has ceased, and I'll dip into them as the years go by. I would highly recommend that you at least give this a shot before it's gone forever, but do yourself a favor and put a little ago on it. You won't be disappointed.

Elizabethan just doesn’t do it for me
Not sure about all the hype with this one. Lit ok and slow burning for the most part, but I got zero flavor from it personally. Gonna store it for awhile and try coming back to it. I am a new smoker so maybe my expectations were a little high, I was very disappointed overall.

I have several blends so I don't choose this one often. But today something took my memory away for longer than usual. Great, but be careful
One of my favorite blends. The depth of the Virginias starts with bright notes and ends with deep, bready, malty sweetness. The perique adds a wonderful spice that tastes like makes the blend taste like a spiced autumn bread. The only downside is this blend WILL give you a nicotine buzz, so start with a small bowl on a full stomach and go from there.

Cigarette-esque, light flavor....
I am by no means, an expert in pipe smoking but.. I do have many years as a cigarette smoker. When I opened the tin I took a good healthy sniff and it instantly reminded me of a fresh pack of Marlboros. I packed it in my MM Corn Cob to about the draw consistency of a thin milkshake and fired up. To me it reminds me of a quality cigarette tobacco! Smell and taste are definite "step up" in potency than cigarette tobacco but it was a decent smoke! Coming from the Cigarette world, it's not really what i was looking for in a pipe tobacco. I also use e-cigs and got to know how high levels of nicotine react in the mouth... gives you a short-lived tingle on your tongue, lips and cheeks... Dunhill E.M. gives me that 'tingle' so I believe this to be a HIGH nicotine blend!-- The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is it seemed to burn REALLY hot in my Corn Cob versus other tobacco blends I've been smoking.

"Just not for me"
*New pipe smoker* This blend, at first, was not appealing. The smell and taste reminded me too heavily of cigarettes. I wanted to enjoy this blend being a new fan of Dunhill (and all pipe smoking) and having seen some of the reviews. I am not sure if VaPer is for me, but I have thrown this blend in a jar and will revisit it in the future. Would much prefer my tins worth be turned into 965 or Nightcap. This one is just not for me.

Outstanding
This is an outstanding tobacco. Everything that is to be said has been covered by the plethora of other reviews. I am usually an aromatic person when it comes to pipe tobacco but this stuff is just an awesome tasting tobacco all around. Not sweet, but not cigarette like either. And the parique is not super strong so it won't burn your tongue. Ive smoked this out of even a cheap drug store pipe and it was awesome. I mix it with royal yacht which has quickly become one of my favorite things to smoke. If you even think you might like this, I would encourage you to try it. You will not be disappointed.

Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture Review
I'm fairly new to pipe smoking, but have smoke a few different kinds of tobacco. This is definitely a stronger mixture. It makes me a bit light headed lol. But overall it is a very good smoke. It reminds me of a cigar. Just maybe not as strong as a real cigar by definitely gives me a similar kind of feel and taste. Doesn't burn too hot and stays lit well. I give it 4 stars because it is a bit harsh if you are just starting pipe smoking but that's probably just me. Good tobacco though!

There needs to be more stars for this one. The best VAPER out there. The blend is PERFECTLY balanced for my taste. Te Perique is spot on. Always has a special place on my shelf. You cant go wrong with this one.

Reveiw of Dunhill Elizabethan mixture
I like the sweet Virginians, and the touch of perique gives it a tangy zest. All in all: it's a good all day smoke. Caped off with nightcap in the evening makes for a good smoking experience. I have smoked Dunhill pipe tobbacco since I was 19, i am now 48. The one thing I have learned; is, if it says dunhill you can't go wrong.

Dunhill does it again.
Dunhill has some of the best english blends out there, and this one does not disappoint.

Excellent Smoke
Typical of Dunhill's excellent blends. A great mid-day smoke, smooth as silk and subtlety flavorful.

An Overlooked Classic
When you think of Dunhill tobacco you immediately think "English" right? But what you can easily forget is that there are other, broader categories of tobacco made by Dunhill. Elizabethan Mixture is a perfect example. Years ago I became aware of the notion that the term "English" doesn't always mean Latakia. When I found L J Peretti house blends, I noticed that they include straight Virginia and VA/Per blends as well under their English heading. It implies that the term can refer to any blend that is absent of classic sweet Black Cavendish, and the fruity, artificial top dressings and sauces of Aromatic blends (which I mostly detest). Elizabethan Mixture is a classic Virginia/Perique blend that is easy to love, and a perfect introduction to anyone who hasn't tasted a VA/Per blend before. It's flavorful and rich, but it's not loaded with Perique so that it's strength is medium, and easy to enjoy as an all day blend. Try a tin and see what else Dunhill does well!

The perfect VaPer
I'm not normally a huge VaPer fan. But this stuff is amazing; just the right amount of perique that is married perfectly with the Virginias.

I ordered three packs of Dunhill tobacco. My order arrived promptly and was packaged excellently. I will certainly be placing another order soon.

A Standard
An excellent Vaper right down the middle.Elizabethan's not going to bowl you over with plum and fig notes like some of the richer Virginia/Perique blends out there but it is very solid with pepper notes and tasty virginia's with a decent amount of strength. A standard as well as nice introduction to folks just getting into Vapers.

Dunhill Elizabethan
Excellent, very nice smoke. Will buy it again.

One of my favorite VaPers
Elizabethan is one of my favorite Vapers. Easily in my top 5. What sets it apart from the others is that Elizabethan is probably a little heavier in Perique than the others. It is by no means overwhelming, but I would say it is heavier than average contributing a nice spice hit. The Virginia has a nice subtle sweetness to it that perfectly compliments that spice to my palate.

Elizabethan Mixture I Sooo Good
Not a great reviewer, actually my first, but I thoroughly enjoyed this tobacco. An excellent blend of Virginia/Perique. It packed well, lit easily and stayed lit. I cannot compare to the earlier version but this new one will not disapoint you. Recommend you use a dedicated pipe for this. Having over 300 pipes I can pair each tobacco I enjoy to a individual pipe. Enjoy

My least favorite Dunhill..sadly
I wanted to really like this blend...truly. it came off very cigarette like to me. I am a big fan of Dunhill blends and the cut of the tobacco and the moisture were ideal. But I just did not enjoy the actual smoke. But this is my opinion nothing more. And if you really want to give this a try the I encourage you. Cheers.

Love it.
Fantastic. I'll buy this again and again and I would definitely suggest anyone who likes non aromatic blends to try it. I wish this blend came in bulk.

Elizabethan Satisfies
A well balanced smoke that gets better as you smoke. The finish at the very last part of the bowl is somehow even better. I keep some straight Perique to add to weak blends, but for me the Elizabethan is perfect right out of the tin.

I ENJOY IT VERY MUCH! DON'T NEED TO INHALE AT ALL!

Amazing Smoke!
I am still a novice pipe smoker but I can honestly say this have become my "go to" tobacco and ultimately my favorite so far. I have finished two tins and am well into my third. It smokes very smooth with an amazing flavor. It has a peppery taste that tickles my tongue which I enjoy very much. I like how it stays lit from start to finish. I don't think I have ever had to relight. It does pack a bit of a nicotine kick at first but it appears I have outgrown that now. I start my day with a bowl while getting dressed for work then enjoy another two to three bowls at night. I love it. It is a great smoke without all the perfumes and ultra sweet flavors some tobacco has. I would not stray from this mixture for anything. It is a great tobacco to kick back, kick your shoes shoes off and enjoy what pipe smoking is all about. I am sorry I didn't start smoking sooner! Dunhill you indeed have a winner here!

Dunhill Elizabethan: Fit for a King
This fantastic VA/Per blend is one of my two favorites and I smoke a bowlful almost every single day ... many among us who offer reviews comment on distinct tastes and aromas they can detect, but sadly, I'm not among them ... my take is that this blend tastes like some of the best pipe tobacco it has ever been my pleasure to set a flame to with no conflicting hints of chocolate, leather, or pine trees and for that, I am highly thankful.

Put this one in a class by itself
I love this pipe tobacco - absolutely one of my favorites. Seems most Dunhill pipe tobacco's are really good. I always have a few tins of Elizabethian Mixture on hand.

Not Latakia
This is the usual high class cut of tobacco and is probably really good if you are more perique oriented, and now I have tasted it I know that my preference is for Latakia which is good to know.

Elizabethan Mixture
I don't know how this compares to the original, but this is a perfect balance of quality Virginia tobacco's mixed with a lesser amount of quality Perique. Just the rich taste of good tobacco

Very smooth
I enjoy Dunhill's Elizabethan mixture when I'm in the mood for a smooth, relaxing blend. Great aroma, no bite, and not overly strong.

Dunhill Elizabethan
This is a very good Vaper. I had very high hopes when I got my tin in the mail because I'd read so many glowing reviews about it. Like I said, it was very good with typical Vaper flavors. The nicotine content is pretty high. If you're a nocotine lightweight you may want to smoke this in a small bowled pipe starting off. I'm not a lightweight and I can feel it. At least as strong as Nightcap, if not a touch stronger. It hasn't unseated St. James Flake or Escudo for my #1 and #2 Vapers, but it is very good nonetheless.
Customer Testimonials
As a fairly new non-aromatic smoker, this is my first VaPer and first Dunhill tobacco, and it has become my overall favorite. The Virginias are subtle but savory, and while the Perique is a bit in the background, you can experience it more fully by "snorking" from the back of the mouth and out the nose, which will result in a heavenly smoke.

This blend has earned itself a place on my tobacco shelf. Out of the tin it was a little damp for me, but easy fix after letting it sit out for a while. I did have better luck taste wise out of one of my corn cobs. All around good smoke for all day. For me the sweetness came in on the inhale, with a light peppery after taste. More Perique would be nice but do not fix what isn't broken.

This was my very first "AHHA !!" Tin of tobacco, as a novice pipe smoker. It was strong, rich, with enough spice to make it tasty. I've now got oodles of different versions of tin and bulk Virginia and VA/PER blends on the way, to fine tune my preferences. Plus, six tins of Elizabethan Mixture. One for now, and five for the cellar, for special occasions. Try it.
ME of Eau Claire, WI
My absolute favorite blend thus far. I've had several va/pers and this tops them all. I will definitely be purchasing more of this. Highly recommended!

This disappointing attempt to recapture the original Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture misses by light years. It is flat, bland, & utterly without character. The original Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture was a strong Virginia/Perique blend that was salty & tangy. The current version bears no resemblance to the original. Try Hearth & Home's Louisiana Red first!

It had been several years since i had smoked Dunhill EM. 20 plus I would say. I remember I did not like it then, but the fact of the matter is that back then 20 -30 years ago I would not smoke anything that did not smell like a fruit stand or did not come out of a red can(Velvet). After many years of smoking a variety of tobaccos my taste has changed, for the better I think. I opened my pipe tobacco of the month care package and much to my surprise there it was, EM. Well guess I will give it another shot! Tin note--- wonderful. Moisture--- just right. Char light-- Good note. Next light and all through the bowl-- Pleasure, Pleasure, Pleasure! How could i have abandoned this so many years ago? I give this a 4 out of 4. Like all Dunhill tobacco it is well worth a try. Great smoke, glad you sent it along. This will be in my regular rotation. VA-Per at its finest!
JG of Summersville, KY
I love this blend. I've got 3 tins aging while I keep a few on hand to smoke. It packs easily with a low moisture level but not bone dry. It lights up and burns evenly, dry and cool. It has a flavor akin to a bold coffee with a nutty nuance. It develops a light sweetness both in flavor and aroma as it burns from the initial light which produces a very satisfying smoke. I've smoked this in several pipes, large to small and it has always been fantastic.
BW of SPRING, TX
very good taste, just needs a bit more perique, 3 1/2 stars
DP of san antonio, TX
Light, clean Virginia blend. Was hoping for a bit more Perique, but being a ribbon cut it packs and burns easily with a light sweetness.
