Peterson Irish Cask

Peterson Irish Cask is a singular blend of Virginias from Zimbabwe, naturally sweet black Cavendish, flavorful Burleys and Acadian Perique. The unique additional step of aging the mixture in sherry barrels made of oak lends an unusual nuance to both the flavor and aroma. For a unique, slightly aromatic experience, Irish Cask delivers.

A Full-flavored, lively smoke
I forgot to add to my initial review that this smokes cool, no chance of bite, and the nutty Thailand burleys are absolutely delicious and lively. There is a nuttiness the whole way through, perfectly balanced. There is also that citrusy flavor/essence the entire bowl, and it is more of a deep orangy citrusy as opposed to anything higher or tangy. I puff it nonstop without any bite or burn. The oaken barrel essence comes out in both the scent of the smoke and the center of the tongue and is delicate and a beautiful finishing touch and is light and almost indiscernible at first but becomes more prominent towards the end of the bowl which surprised me. I thought it would have been more at the start of the bowl. Fantastic! I again want to reiterate that I am somewhat of a nicotine heavyweight and the nic hit is high if you puff constantly like me, certainly on par with Royal Yacht there. I smoked my first bowl on a full stomach, and still got a buzz which surprised me. The moisture is pretty much perfect out of the tin but could probably benefit from 10 minutes drying time, or getting the first few puffs going and letting it sit for 10 in the pipe. Very satisfying full smoke, and a very easy smoke to get right. I smoke it out of a medium sized Dry Filter 6mm briar pipe.

Very Interesting, Underrated, and Flavorfu. EXCEPTIONAL Blend!
Well well, I may have finally found my daily smoke. This one is good, highly underrated on the interwebs. If you're already familiar with other Peterson blends, this one is like Royal Yacht except way less of that rather overpowering plum top note they use and much more interesting. This is a zesty medium to full-flavored smoke. The Thailand burleys are exceptional and really shine the whole way through. The cavendish will periodically impart a natural and subdued toasty sweetness to the tongue, not quite as much as something like stokkebeye bullseye. There is a citrus qulaity to this that surprised me with how i enjoy it. It comes out only when you push the smoke out and lingers only a second. It gives you the sense of almost like you'd get from sniffing a Sprite soda you just opened, or the very first sip of a lemon selzter, but this is also not at all overbearing and light. It does not have any unpleasant high sweet notes that linger on part of the tongue like Orlik Golden sliced might for some from high grassy notes. So to summarize all that, every component is discernable and plays perfectly with each other. This is a fantastic smoke. It tastes floral, a little woodsy, a little creamy. It is zesty, a bit citrusy, but also with some of the nice tobacco flavors you might get from one of the Mac Baren HH blends. Absolutely outstanding! I found out that I'm a nicotine heavyweight, so I really can't comment to the strength. Definitely an all-day smoke, maybe slightly heavy for the morning, but the citrus and zest may be a welcome experience for that time of day as well. It burns well, is a great moisture level, maybe a little moist, and will give you little to no gurgle and will smoke down to ash. To give you an idea of my tastes, my current favorites are Peterson EMP, Nightcap, Plum Pudding, HH Old Dark Fired, Cascadia Vertical Limit, SG 1792 Flake, and now this one.

A Decent Smoke
Still developing my taste in tobacco! I like that this one is more mellow (compared to the Balkan Mixture), but which that it had a more pronounced flavor. Overall, a decent smoke.

You take the low road and I'll take the high road
I liked it, good taste. I can smoke it everyday as my go to tobacco, nice and smooth. I like tobacco with Perique in it. I think it was mixed just about perfect. Thank you. Gary the Irish settler.

Hopes too high maybe?
This is one of the few tobaccos I've ever really been disappointed with. My hopes were high, which probably wasn't the best place to start. I'm taking it easy on the old oak, because I first tried it during my, "stepping away from aromatics" period, and I have since learned that my personal tastes don't favor strong burley flavor. Most of all, I found it less exciting than the description led me to believe it was. I didn't get much out of the sherry cask aging, and didn't get a very noticeable Virginia pop. I love Peterson pipes, but none of their blends that I've tried every really knock it out of the park for me

Better Than Expected
I love all things VaPer but for whatever reason I have been slow to trying this blend. Maybe its the unattractive tin art? I am thankful to have finally picked some up on my last order. It has a lovely tin aroma and perfect moisture content. Although, the blend will burn quickly if you do not pace yourself. The flavor profile is dark dried fruit and a generous, but not overwhelming spice. The blend is balanced and consistent throughout. This blend is worth giving a shot.

Irish Oak
A good smooth smoke, not a lot of bite with just the right amount of Oakness.

excellent mild Va-Per tobacco
A ribbon cut after drying for 30 min. Consistency reminded me of Royal yacht. Easy to light and could taste the Virginia's ( woodsy hay) and cavendish ( slight chocolates with cherries ? ) taste with the perique pepper in the back. As the smoke progressed less chocolate & more pepper taste. Definite nicotine hit in the 2nd half of the bowl. Mild Va-Per light nicotine tobacco will buy again.

Irish Oak and Scotch please.
A robust tin of flavor that brings off-notes compared to your typical blends. This Oak Sherry matured blend raises the bar for flavors, lending a very specific and exotic taste as if I was drinking a fine scotch (which I did later enjoy with my Tomatin 12yr, exquisite!). The same goes for the nose on this pipe, this is an all around great blend you won't forget. A must own!
Customer Testimonials
So, I bought this off the suggestion of my local tobacconist after work today. Cracked the can open and smoked a bowl. This is a well balanced blend, there are sweety, creamy, and peppery notes. A good tobacco, however, I can't see buying it again. It is very underwhelming.
