Peterson Old Dublin Sale

The name might be Peterson Old Dublin, but this is a traditional Scottish mixture consisting of Cyprian Latakia, fine Virginias, unflavored black Cavendish and select Basma. This medium-bodied blend is sweet, smoky and exotic, and incredibly satisfying. Old Dublin is a great choice for those who enjoy Latakia in measured doses.

Spicy, tough and unsentimental...
Decently strong - a tough all-day-er. 5 stars as I believe it's a hidden gem; as mighty as the rebranded Dunhills without the price tag or attention. Great for January/February when something unsentimental is needed to stir the senses and keep you going. A real dockland blend.

Smokes well.
Smokes well, not as smokey tasting as I like, a little too much "perfume" fruitiness coming in, no real tongue burn though so thats good. Overall I recommend you try it, though Russ' Tastykake is still my goto.

Old Dublin
My mixture 965 was a favorite of my mine, still is, but Old Dublin with the Basma Oriental has become a new favorite. Great flavor, room note, worth a try.

Better than 965
Real nice smoke. Similar to 965, but better. Plenty of flavor with a cool smoke. Give it shot.

Flavorful moist tobacco!
Burns okay and smokes well in smaller bowls. Larger bowls are always more challenging with moist tobacco. The flavor is cool with several layers. I recommend it.

Strong aroma ,smoke ,and flavor, not my traditional style of tobacco that I go to but very good Strong robust profile notes of chocolate ,wines ,leathery in a good way, kind of a thick heavy smoke. Very enjoyable experience.

Love this blend! Easy burn, little bit of extra vitamin N, no tongue bite. Love it! Putting it in my rotation for sure.

Everything that the reviewers said
Everything that the reviewers said about this wonderful tobacco rang true for me. It is an exceptionally fine tobacco blend - smooth, subtle, engaging, relaxing, easy to light and sustain, and really fun to smoke while contemplating and indulging in the eternal verities of pipe smoking. Could not be more enthusiastic about Peterson's "Old Dublin" blend.

This is an easy smoking blend worth trying. The flavors leave me without any distinct taste, but enjoyable.

For me it’s a little milder than 965, but some of the same flavors. So a win because I love both

Great all day smoke
The aroma is pleasant and fills my pipe room with the same aroma as my dad's tobacco smells. Peterson old Dublin is one of my all day tobaccos. It's one of my favorite blends

Excellent blend
This blend reminds me of the old Frog Morton series with less bite. Extremely pleasant and I believe it is best smoked using Beech or Corncob pipes. Haven’t tried it in clay yet; that’s on this weekend’s agenda.

Its really growing on me
The first time I smoked this, It was not for me, I'll leave it at that. For many blends, I have found they can be enjoyed in any pipe; however, I found with this blend, and some others, that they smoke better in my filtered corn cob pipe. This is one of those blends for me. Over time, this blend is really taking the lead on my favorites the more that I smoke it. Similar to an english like standard mixture but with less nicotine but still has lots of flavor. My advice, let this blend breath after opening and if you don't like it out of an unfiltered briar, then change it up.

I cannot comment about the room note, that's because I enjoy my pipe outdoors. Overall "Old Dublin" has what I like in a pipe tobacco, flavorfull and smooth smoking. My all time favorite blend. Gene, a pipe smoker since 1970.

English all day.
Excellent smoke.. Complex enough to keep your interest but mild enough for an all day smoke. Very cool and dry right out of the tin. Highly recommended You'll get a fifth star if you offer it in bulk.

Bring Back the Bulk
If I smoked this w/o knowing what it was, or who makes it, I would guess it was a G.L. Pease blend that went wrong somewhere. It's good, but there's nothing here that makes it worth the price of the tin. If it were at bulk prices it would be worth keeping some on hand.

A solid, good smoke. Not much added flavor, just a fairly mild tobacco blend.

Very good english blend.
Good flavor, similar blend to Standard Mixture and My Mixture 965 (kind of in-between the two) but the latakia is more subdued, more balanced overall, and seems to have less of a nicotine side effect. Smoke has a pleasant room note...slight incense from the orientals similar to Presbyterian Mixture.

It really wasn’t for me.
It really wasn’t for me. The tin note was to my liking and my wife enjoyed the room note. However, I didn’t enjoy the after taste. Kind of killed it for me.

Wich way do I go!!
Unique flavor and smell Cyprus latakia. When I first smelled it I didn't like it But that little round tin keep calling my name. Strong the way I like it, but very smooth, I liked the room note different. Bottom line it grew on me! I love this stuff. Gary the Irish settler. Thank you.

The best English I've tried
This is my favourite English blend I've tried thus far. It is smooth, delightful, and full of character. I can smoke this all day long. It is perfect with a strong cuppa in the morning.

Nice and mellow
I just started smoking a pipe but this tobacco is a lot smoother than lower priced ones I have tried. Will be buying again.

One of my new favorite tobaccos
This was something that I saw at the tinder box here in Reno Nevada. Being new to the world of English blends I thought I would try a tin. It was the biggest mistake I have ever made. Now I want to do is smoke this all the time. One of my new favorite tobaccos. Do yourself a favor and try a tin. You won’t regret it.

A classic
Simply put this is my all day, everyday type of smoke. A little sweetness, a detectable smokiness and a consistent flavour. Good from top to bottom. If you are someone who is looking to venture, for the first time, into the world of "English" tobaccos id highly recommend starting here. If you're an old hand and are looking for something straight forward and consistently good, look no further. Perhaps there are better blends on the market with a more nuanced flavour profile, but to find a blend that has never left ME wanting is as good as it gets.

Nice Celtic Blend
What everyone else has said goes for this correspondent as well. First, it is a balanced blend, Latakia being an ingredient of course, but not a smack in the face. The other tobaccos marry well, and there's a peaty sort of hint in there; whether it's a bit of turf from the moors, or a drop of whiskey someplace, I couldn't say. But if you asked a blender at Peterson's, I'm sure you'd get a sly wink... A big plus for Old Dublin is that it has a wonderfully MASCULINE room note, like what you'd think of if you were sitting around smoking with Ernest Hemingway, or Clark Gable. One might suppose Sherlock Holmes would have indulged as well, except that this is a milder blend, not as strong as Dunhill's My Mixture 965 (which is no more than a medium-strong blend itself), Holmes preferring blends that would be outlawed as poison gas in WWI... The stuff is similar to Half & Half in that, it does NOT like a tight packing and will either refuse to stay lit, or burn fiercely. I just give it a medium pack from the bottom of the bowl to the top and manage the burn during tamping while smoking. Needless to say, this tobacco prefers a larger chamber. Outside of that caveat, I will keep a tin in the rotation, just because.

At a pub over looking the Leafy.
Smoking Old Dublin transports me beck to that experience even without my reading James Joyce’s The Dubliners.

It's good.
To be truthful I'm very new to pipe smoking so I don't even know if my words are credible but Peterson old Dublin is good. I don't regret buying it however I don't believe I'm going to buy it again just because it's not one of my favorites.

Nice smoke
Not too heavy on the Latakia, reminds me of University Flake. Good flavour though and I would recommend it if you like English blends.

Great Smoke
A good flavorful cool smoking blend. I used to smoke "Black Watch tobacco that I bought at Vottis Pipe shop in Albany NY and loved it. The shop closed in 1991. This the closest blend to it that I've found yet. I highly recommend it.

Delightful
This was my first English and at the time I had no idea what I was doing. In fact I'm not even sure why I chose it because all my decisions at that time were based on which flavor I wanted to try. For this to not say cherry or whiskey on the tin would have been a turn off. I got back to the barracks loaded it up and realized I had something special on my hands. After that my friends started smoking it too and we couldn't get enough. The Latakia comes through beautifully, but I think it is the Basma that gives it that extra something in flavor. About the room note-- I never had any complaints but the aroma is strong. If I was smoking an aromatic and a friend lit old Dublin it would ruin my smoke. We had to start coordinating tobaccos.

This is one of my favorite tobaccos. I find out this after trying many kind of tobaccos and now i smoke mostly this one.
Customer Testimonials
I'm trying to like this blend, but my main comment is that it tastes ... salty. I'm a veteran English and matured Virginia's smoker, and trying this for the first time. It burns nicely, lights easily and leaves a white ash. But I'm missing any sweet undertones in the smoke and a lack of tanginess to offset that salty, sharp quality that I get from it.
