Presbyterian Mixture

Presbyterian Mixture is legendary in a number of ways. First off, it's been around for more than a century, and for a number of years after it was first created, it didn't even have a name. Additionally, people have argued for years about whether it actually contains Latakia. We'll settle that right now. Yes, Presbyterian Mixture contains Latakia tips (the highest leaves of the plant used to make Latakia) in a modest amount, along with premium-quality Virginias, and select small-leaf Orientals. It's a mellow yet complex blend that makes a perfect introduction to Latakia blends, and won't tire your taste buds. It's especially nice with a morning cup of coffee.

One of the all time best
I love this smoke. In general, I prefer aromatics, but this is one of the few non-flavored tobaccos I can enjoy. I first tried it years ago for no other reason than I am a Presbyterian. Once I became a pipe smoker, I viewed it as requisite. It has an amazing room note--at once distinct yet not overpowering. My wife is rather sensitive to tobacco smell, and she doesn't really mind this one too much. The flavor of this one also lingers delightfully in the mouth. As many have noted before, the hint of Cyprian Latakia makes the finish a bit peppery. It's a little like having a peppered soup. You get the sense that it's there, but it doesn't overwhelm the general flavor. Buy this and try it!

This was the first tin
This was the first tin I bought. I very much enjoyed it, but with time I have come to understand that aromatics are more in line with my tastes. Still, very good stuff!!

Very good, mild, smoke
I bought this Melange to compare it with Stanwell's Melange, and although the two do not taste a great deal alike, they are both very pleasant to smoke. On this one, both the taste and the room are not as fruity as the Stanwell. This one is just a bit more robust, but not unpleasantly so.

Historically Evocative
An exquisitely balanced English blend. It is somehow evocative of what I imagine pipe smoking was like as the only pleasure available in the trenches at the Somme and Marne, despite the blend not being available for another +|- 5 years. Although I have no historical evidence to justify it, Presbyterian blend is what I smell when I watch WW1 film footage of soldiers smoking their pipes.

I have smoked this off
I have smoked this off and on for many years. With the loss of Dunhill EMP, I am smoking it in the morning with some others that I am trying out; I never really liked the Orlik version of EMP which I have been buying locally in bulk. The PM works for me as well for me. I also like C & D Good Morning for the first smoke of the day. Presbyterian IMHO is a superior mixture. I have been smoking the pipe since 1950, when my father gifted me with a pipe and a tin of the Philip Morris version of Revelation on my 16th birthday. I don't consider myself an expert but I know what I like :-) I started latakia blends with 965 and graduated to Balkan Sobranie in the 1960s when I discovered it at a newsstand in Manhattan, NYC. I now smoke Balkane Sasieni which I have kept cellared along with Squadron Leader and McClleland Orientals I now favor Virginia Flake tobacco from Samuel Gawith and McClleland but they are no more. I have enough around to keep me busy while I complain about the losses.

The legend is true
Hands down the best English blend out there.

Really nice blend!
Great blend with a nice hit of latakia, balanced with spice and sweetness. A great smoke!

Great memorable smoke
A very smooth blend, easy smoking. The touch of Latakia is just a faint hint, but a very pleasant taste. The blend is topped off with a fruity aftertaste that gives a very pleasant room note. This will be a great replacement for Dunhill Easy morning blend.

Definitely Impressed.
Glad P&C has stocked this old-time mixture. I used to smoke this in the olden days and the taste and aroma reminds me of those days. Definitely impressed.
