Presbyterian Mixture

Presbyterian Mixture is legendary in a number of ways. First off, it's been around for more than a century, and for a number of years after it was first created, it didn't even have a name. Additionally, people have argued for years about whether it actually contains Latakia. We'll settle that right now. Yes, Presbyterian Mixture contains Latakia tips (the highest leaves of the plant used to make Latakia) in a modest amount, along with premium-quality Virginias, and select small-leaf Orientals. It's a mellow yet complex blend that makes a perfect introduction to Latakia blends, and won't tire your taste buds. It's especially nice with a morning cup of coffee.

Excellent Tobacco!
Great smooth smoke! Just the right measure of Latakia - not overpowering but adds depth and enhances the flavor of the Virginia. If you’re primarily an aromatic smoker looking to explore English blends Presbyterian is an excellent tobacco to start!

I'm new to pipe smoking, but this is the best tobacco I've ever heard. Easy to light, easy to keep lit, and little to no bite. Pair with a clay tavern pipe and you are as close to perfect as you can get.

Campfire euphoria
Absolutely love this, I fully intend to keep this stocked on my home, as a Presbyterian it’s only right. Pleasant, smooth taste. The aroma is reminiscent of a campfire in autumn,

A Real Winner!
After watching many Youtube Piping videos, I have always noticed that alot of pipers were smoking presbyterian mixture or always have some on hand. I wondered what all the hype was about and I can see why. I've had Virginia's before and honestly I am not a fan of straight virginia's, yet this blend seems to be very mellow in that regard. The orientals/turkish are evident. This blend is overall very easy on the palate and should be in your rotation if you are making a transition into English blend tobaccos. As for the dispute of whether or not there is Latakia in this blend is up to the eye of the beholder. I personally cannot decipher if there is or isn't as my palate isn't quite developed yet but what I can say is this blend is great for those either looking to transition from aros to English or even for the seasoned smoker for a nice change of pace. A real winner and I now see why! Hope this helped and Happy Piping y'all!

Excellent medium blend
Excellent medium blend. I tend to like what I consider full blends like Pirate Kake, Old Joe Krantz, Nightcap, and Bayou night. Presbyterian blend has a wonderful slightly sour bready note that gently comes through. Great balanced blend. This is well worth making a part of your rotation

Very nice
I can’t say much on room note, I have left the room and returned and it was bad. Thus is what I would call a lite English, and it stays this way to bottom of bowl. Has a sweet note that comes and goes, this blend taste fresh to me. This is one of my go to blends.

One won't be enough
Well, after over half a decade of pipe smoking and a saddening amount spent on variety orders from the site, I have finally found it. "The One" I typically hop from tobacco to tobacco depending on my mood, and enjoy something from every end of the spectrum. I lean slightly more towards latakia blends for my personal tastes, but by no means would I say I'm a mainline English type of guy. But that for me is the beauty of this blend. When you open the tin the Latakia and Orientals are certainly there, but not in your face. The moisture is just about perfect for a tin, damp enough to keep but with a smidge of drying perfect to light. Burns evenly and cool with minimal relights all the way through the bowl. The flavor also sticks around down the the very dregs without getting ashy or bitter. To me its the best of all worlds, the whole bouquet of tobaccos presents itself smoothly and evenly, with nothing slapping you in the face. I would liken it to the difference between and $7 steak and a $40 Ribeye. Its technically similar, but the nuance and body is just more somehow. I like this bend so much and intend to smoke it so frequently that I am going to dedicate a brand new briar to it completely, something I have never had the passion for a tobacco to do before. Presbyterian Mixture combines the easy smoking and room note of a light aromatic, with the range of a VaPer and the complexity of a good Balkan. I need to wrap this review up so I can go order more...

I realize that I don't
I realize that I don't like latakia. Even in small doses. I'm sure this is a splendid mixture, and I really wanted to like it. But I don't. So don't listen to me.

Latikia
Been looking for this type a long time. If you like a smoke that many none smokers don't like the smell of this may be the answer. If you are only a Sir Walter type do not try this.

PERFECTLY BALANCED
Let me start by saying I'm fairly new to piping (still in my first year), but in that time I've already a good number of different blends, including different Englishes and this has to be one of if not THE most balanced of them. I think that's why I've seen some people say it seems bland to them, not one thing jumps like some latakia do some times but with this everything is working together in fantastic flavor. Will DEFINITELY be in my rotation for now on

Pleasing from the start
This was a new mixture for me. I liked the naming being Presbyterian, I tried it. Those who like English blends will like it milder than most. It was just right for me. I hope that this formula will be a good seller and always available.

More potato than steak
Good tobacco. Kind of blan. Reminded more of orlik golden sliced than the oriental I was expecting. It is an uncomplicated english when I am in the mood for something light.

Beginner English
Being a smoker of English blends, this is a great introduction to them for a new pipe smoker. Subtle, smokes very well and not overwhelming.

I enjoy this quiet a bit reminds me of a sweet and tangy bbq sauce. Latakia is not overpowering it is a compliment in this blend I just love this stuff.

Good balanced Tobacco
This has become one of my go-to tobaccos in my rotation. The tin note has latakia in it, but I do not taste it very much - about every third or fourth puff. That is coming from someone who enjoys latakia. It is balanced with the Virginias. Very tasty. Plus, how can't I disagree with Presbyterian theology? Some of my favorite theologians came out of Princeton and are a product of the Reformation and Calvin (Charles Hodge, Geerhardus Vos, & Louis Berkhof).

Good but not Great
It's just my opinion but when I smoke this tobacco I just can't help but feel like something's missing. It's good but overall it seems kind of thin in it's presentation. I feel that if it had a little bit of Perique then it'd be an amazing blend, but as it sits it's just short of that. Overall: solid blend but lacking that something something.

One of the Very Best Ever
A German friend of mine several years ago mailed a tin of Presbyterian blend to me that she found in a German tobacco shop. I fell in love with it instantly, writing back to her that this was "one of the Very Best Ever" pipe tobacco. Since then I found this blend one again on Pipes and Cigars and ordered several more tins. It is an incredible smoking pleasure. Most people have never heard of it or have tried it. It is an amazing find. Try it. You will love it. Don't run out of it. Order more! I did. It's fantastic. Mmmmmmmmm. Ron from Van Nuys, California

Good daily blend
Much like the old Hayward and American Oriental very light and dry. Would recommend for those who don't like heavy English with Latakia over tones

Bought a Tin the Same Day I Bought a Presbyterian Church. ... Seriously.
Yes! I truly enjoy this blend. The complexity of notes is like an old church organist who plays for the masses but tips her hat to the Maker. It is important for me to watch my cadence when puffing away. It wants to breath slowly. And, yes, I did order a tin the same day I bought a Presbyterian church. I'm a pastor and we just bought a church and property from the local Presbytery, so I thought it would be befitting to order a tin in appreciation. On a practical taste side, there is a slight sour note in the blend that, to me, gives it great character. This is a great midday smoke. Enjoy!

Does it have Latakia... Yes or No?
I find Presbyterian Mixture a very smooth, cool, and flavorful tobacco. And yes... I did detect a slight bit of Latakia but not much! This blend packs, lights, and smokes very well. I recommend it to English blend lovers!

A Stunning Smoke
Terrific blend. I had this as my first tin of REAL tobacco, and it is truly delightful. The tin note reminded me somewhat of BBQ sauce in that it was both spicy and sweet. Having it during the cold MO Winter was the best. Highly recommended!

Heck , now I am hooked on this habit again.
This is what I have been looking for the past year. My wife bought me a tin that read Macedonia on a rectangular tin back when Disney World opened up in the 70's when they had a tobacco shop which is no more. It is on the lighter side of the Latakia and now I will seek out the stronger stiles or find straight Latakia to blend with the lighter tobaccos. Just started pipe smoking again after over 25 years because I could never find that which satisfied me. It's like drinking a fine craft beer and then trying a light beer which is like drinking water.

One of the all time best
I love this smoke. In general, I prefer aromatics, but this is one of the few non-flavored tobaccos I can enjoy. I first tried it years ago for no other reason than I am a Presbyterian. Once I became a pipe smoker, I viewed it as requisite. It has an amazing room note--at once distinct yet not overpowering. My wife is rather sensitive to tobacco smell, and she doesn't really mind this one too much. The flavor of this one also lingers delightfully in the mouth. As many have noted before, the hint of Cyprian Latakia makes the finish a bit peppery. It's a little like having a peppered soup. You get the sense that it's there, but it doesn't overwhelm the general flavor. Buy this and try it!

Very good, mild, smoke
I bought this Melange to compare it with Stanwell's Melange, and although the two do not taste a great deal alike, they are both very pleasant to smoke. On this one, both the taste and the room are not as fruity as the Stanwell. This one is just a bit more robust, but not unpleasantly so.

Historically Evocative
An exquisitely balanced English blend. It is somehow evocative of what I imagine pipe smoking was like as the only pleasure available in the trenches at the Somme and Marne, despite the blend not being available for another +|- 5 years. Although I have no historical evidence to justify it, Presbyterian blend is what I smell when I watch WW1 film footage of soldiers smoking their pipes.

I have smoked this off
I have smoked this off and on for many years. With the loss of Dunhill EMP, I am smoking it in the morning with some others that I am trying out; I never really liked the Orlik version of EMP which I have been buying locally in bulk. The PM works for me as well for me. I also like C & D Good Morning for the first smoke of the day. Presbyterian IMHO is a superior mixture. I have been smoking the pipe since 1950, when my father gifted me with a pipe and a tin of the Philip Morris version of Revelation on my 16th birthday. I don't consider myself an expert but I know what I like :-) I started latakia blends with 965 and graduated to Balkan Sobranie in the 1960s when I discovered it at a newsstand in Manhattan, NYC. I now smoke Balkane Sasieni which I have kept cellared along with Squadron Leader and McClleland Orientals I now favor Virginia Flake tobacco from Samuel Gawith and McClleland but they are no more. I have enough around to keep me busy while I complain about the losses.

Really nice blend!
Great blend with a nice hit of latakia, balanced with spice and sweetness. A great smoke!

Great memorable smoke
A very smooth blend, easy smoking. The touch of Latakia is just a faint hint, but a very pleasant taste. The blend is topped off with a fruity aftertaste that gives a very pleasant room note. This will be a great replacement for Dunhill Easy morning blend.
