Rattray's Old Gowrie

Old Gowrie is another must-try Rattray's blend. Superior Virginias, Perique and some Kentucky are pressed, sliced and rubbed out. There's a natural fruitness about it that separates it from its brethren. You definitely need to experience Old Gowrie.

Rattray's Old Gowrie
Curb appeal: A simple tin presentation which states "for gentlemen only". This is a ready rub so no fancy slices or coins to behold here. Bouquet: Deep and rich, slightly fruity along the fig/raisin line. Smokability: Packs well as is or rubbed out a bit finer. Lights and burns well from start to finish. Smoke is full and clean with no bite. Final thoughts: This is a mature well refined blend which has brought together the perfect balance between the tobaccos. The smoke has depth and body with a slight semi-sweet after taste. It cannot be said that either the Virginias nor the Perique runs to the forefront as with other blends which to me is a most pleasant smoking experience. If you like Va/Pers, then I can highly recommend that you give some Old Gowrie a try.

A Go-To Tobacco
I love this tobacco!! One of my favorite Va/Per blends. Incredibly smooth and very tasty. A go to tobacco.
Customer Testimonials
I have found that Old Gowrie has worked its way into my regular rotation for both subtle and practical reasons. First, I do enjoy it more when it has been out of the can for 15 minutes or so before I smoke it. This gives me time to enjoy its scent of hay/raisins, figs and a perfume note I can't quite identify. I enjoy it best in a churchwarden or a large bowl pipe. It does smoke smoothly but strongly with no bite. Its taste is of Virginias and spice and it stays consistent through the bowl. It burns easily and leaves only ash in the bowl when finished. It does pack a punch for its smoothness, and is guaranteed to mellow me out after the roughest day at the office.

About all I can say about this tobacco is "simply satisfying" One of the best I have ever put into a bowl. I smoke several different tobaccos a week and there are few if any I rate as bad. I may not go into great detail on any tobacco I review but I know what is what after over 25 years of piping and nearly a half century of involvement in production that is growing, cutting, housing, stripping and even processing leaf. This is a wonderful smoke and I would tell anyone it is well worth a try. 4 out of 4 with a bullet
