RO Series Acadian Gold

In October of 2015, while spending a day with Mark Ryan at the L.A. Poche Perique Company in St. James Parish, Louisiana. our own Russ Ouellette asked Mark is he had ever thought of trying to process Virginia in the same method as Perique. Mark said that he had thought of it, but was told it wouldn't work. After a bit of conversation, Mark decided to bring down some bright, sweet, yellow, Canadian-grown Virginia to give it a try. The processing time had to be much shorter due to the agressive fermentation due to the high sugar content, but the result, called Acadian Gold, has more depth than normal Virginia with a malty note unlike anything else.
The RO Series Acadian Gold is 100% pure Acadian Gold. Here's your opportunity to try this one-of-a-kind tobacco. all on its own. Only two barrels were made, so you'll want to get yours soon before it's gone.

The best I'll ever have
I don't have the words to describe how good this is. I will be buying every tin I can until it's no longer available.

Find a way to make more, Russ!
The only drawback with this tobacco is that it was produce in an experiment and Russ won’t be making more! Primarily, it is a subtly sweet Virginia but the fermentation process makes the sweet Virginia flavor deeper. Yet, the deepness of the sweet notes is not the same a dark Virginias, nor red Virginias. I don’t taste any of the pepper taste of Perique, but perhaps the plummy taste. It’s difficult to describe, but I like it, especially as a smooth change when I have been smoking bright Virginias or VaPers. I’ll keep buying it as long as it’s in stock and wish a way could be found to keep producing it.

Very Tasty
This is really good if you like fermented smells and flavors. I grew up on a hay farm and the tin note on this smells almost exactly like the silage bales we used to make did after a few months of fermenting. Personally I love the smell but it might be off putting to some. As for the smoking it is a slightly sweet malty rich smoke with notes of way over ripe fruit. The flavors build as the bowl progresses. Very happy with this and will probably buy more. I will be looking forward to trying the acadian vaper next.

Full, Rich, and Unique
Straight Virginia blends are not known as flavor bombs. Their character is generally delicate and nuanced. Even the fuller blends can leave the average pipe smoker wondering what all the fuss is about. But Acadian Gold is the real deal. The Perique process applied to this golden Canadian grown Virginia brings about a fermentation that results in a strongly fruity and tangy flavor profile that fully satisfies the palate. Buy this fabulous tobacco while you can because when it's gone, it's gone for good.

Fermented Bliss
Top notch soft Virginia with the gentle sour of fermentation. Very sophisticated.

RO Series Acadian Gold

RO Series Acadian Gold

The various Virginias offer a big burst of tangy, fermented citrus with a mild malty tartness, a fair amount of grass and hay, some sugar, a very light dark fruitiness, wood and earth, a slight floral and bare spice note, and a few drops of honey and bread. The strength level is just past the center of mild to medium, while the taste is a step past that mark. The nic-hit is a tad below the strength threshold. No chance of bite or harshness, and has no rough edges. Burns cool and clean at a reasonable pace with a very consistent, deep flavor from start to finish. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Has a very pleasant, lightly lingering after taste and room note. Can be an all day smoke, or a mixer if you’re so inclined.
