Of all the Rocky Patel Vintage cigars, Rocky Patel Vintage 1979 might be the most spectacular. No, it's not a flavor bomb, it's an incredibly smooth and creamy medium-bodied gem. What makes it so exceptional is that it's clad in a gorgeous African Cameroon wrapper that was grown in 1979. Let me tell you why that's significant. Obviously, age can make tobacco smoother, but Cameroon ages better than most. When this leaf was first grown, Cameroon was one of the most popular wrapper leaves. I was 22 and had just started getting into premium cigars, and my favorites all sported the African wrapper. What really tells the tale for me is the color. The best Cameroon cigars I've ever had all were a lighter brown with just a bit of green mixed in, and that's Rocky Patel Vintage 1979 to a 'T'.
Expect notes of cedar, coffee, mellow spices, and a faint hint of anise in the background. These cigars aren't inexpensive, but they're destined to be modern-day classics, so try some. You'll be glad you did.
