Umami - a Japanese word meaning "delicious taste". It's now recognized as the fifth flavor element alongside sweet, sour, bitter and salt. It describes a savory flavor, best exemplified by mushrooms. In cigars, that element is most commonly found in Cubans. Royal Danish Umami comes from Nicaragua, and is available in two styles, both in a 4.5"x56 gordo size. Umami Pink is a medium-bodied cigar which uses leaves from the middle and bottom sections of the plants. Umami Green utilizes leaves from the middle and upper parts of the plants, resulting in a medium to full-body. The wrapper for Umami Pink is an Ecuadorian Habano Claro, while the Green sports a deep brown Ecuadorian Habano Maduro capa.
The Umami Pink features a flavor profile that starts off with a sweet woody flavor, accompanied by a note of fermented malt, mellow mushroom and a hint of salt, which is very reminiscent of some of the more medium-bodied Habanos. Umami Green starts off with a wood and coffee character and the umami element is deeper, more like white truffle. Sweet spices round out the medium to full-bodied profile.
