Back for more
This is the reason I'm back on this site ... back for more of this blend. This is my favorite!

Best one so far
I have tried 5 of these monthly blends by Russ, and this is, by far, the best of the bunch. Very smooth with nice burning characteristics. Stays lit provided you let it dry out a bit...this is not a bad thing.....I have a tendency to dry out all my tobaccos. Great flavor.....can't imagine what others were expecting when their review asked for a bit more taste. This is a great tobacco for the smoker and those around him/her/it.

All time favorite!!!
Love this stuff. There is nothing I can say that has not already been said in the other 5 star reviews. I smoke it all day long. In fact I am smoking it as I am writing this review.

Great Taste and Versitale For Blending
This is a nice light smoke. I taste the vanilla and caramel. If I want a light smoke I grab a bowl of this. To some this might be blaspheme but I blend this with Frog Morton to add some sweetness and a nicer room note for non pipe smokers. It really made a unique aroma. A friend thought that the aroma was the best he had smelled while I was smoking a pipe.

I smoke nothing else.
I have hesitated to give Cavedish in the Woods a good review, because I was afraid too many people would buy it and I wouldn’t be able to get it. Alas it is sold out anyway, and no wonder. If there is a perfect pipe tobacco blend, this is it. I no longer smoke anything else.

Tasty
I'm basically a newbie pipe smoker so I'm in the experimental phase of pipe-ology. I ordered several different samples of your vast selection and "the cavendish in the woods" is one of my favorites. Sorry, my palate is not yet sufficiently developed for any sort of sophisticated critique. I look forward to furthering my education with many more delicious blends!

Just received my order, and already looking to buy more.
Absolute perfection, from start to finish. Zero bite, excellent flavor, and an amazing room note.

Pleasant aroma warm flavor will have you stress free in no time.
I really enjoy the Cavendish blends. This one takes me out of the city full of stress and into the woods where it's quiet and peaceful. My daughter loves the aroma and the flavor is reminiscent of coming home to my wife's Christmas baking. Definitely a great smoke at the end of the day after supper while you unwind before turning in. I also enjoy this particular blend on weekend mornings with a good cup of coffee before the day gets busy.

Absolutely delicious
This is one of the best I've tried. Russ rarely disappoints, but this blend is simply top notch. Very mellow and enjoyable with enough flavor to keep it interesting.

Solid.
Very solid cavendish. Just sweet enough, just tobacco-y enough. No bite. Burns good. Great to puff on all day.

Needs a bit more taste!
Sure wish it had just a tad more taste. I would then give it five stars. Very similar to Lane BCA but more flavorful.

a new favorite
What a sweet and mild smoke! I am glad I stocked up on this one, it is one of the better Cavendish blends I have ever smoked. The smell from the bag is very strong and at first I was worried it would be too sweet for my taste but the flavor is well balanced in my country gentleman cob

Smooth flavor! Would buy again!

The perfect Cavendish!
Eureka!!! This is the blend I have been searching for! My tobacconist passed years ago, along with it his recipe for my favorite Cavendish!. This has been replicated perfectly! Perhaps a ghostly visit was paid from my past to reveal this lost secret? I have been smoking this in a cob, awaiting a Peterson to show up from the postal service. (I won't review them, it isn't favorable!) This is a really nice blend. The Cavendish is oily and sticky as I believe true Cavendish should be I believe like good food Cavendish "over cooked" destroys the flavor. The moisture in the tobacco is perfect! I use a gravity feed method in my pipe with a light tamp of a fingertip. Initial light is good, with a strong follow up I may need just one additional fire about mid bowl. Probably more my fault than the tobaccos as I get lazy puffing lost in thought and allow to go out! Burns evenly and to a nice gray dark ash. Flavor is glorious! A dark fruit raisin flavor followed by a subtle spice of so nice! Mid bowl moves into a smooth cream flavor with a slow return of the spice flavoring towards end. Produces plenty of nice blue smoke that fills the room with welcome smells to appease even those offended by smoke. A great blend and in my opinion a standard in what Cavendish should be held!

Great blend!
Really enjoyed it. I'm no pipe tobacco no it all so not sure I can put into words what someone reading reviews is looking for. But if your looking for a great smoke this is it.

The Cavendish in the Woods - Best of the Best
I am a regular Lane BCA black cavendish smoker but have tried dozens of other black cavendish blends for a change from BCA and low nd behold Russ' The Cavendish in the Woods proved to be mider, with a wonderful room note and smoked very well. Move over BCA I have another favorite blcack cavendish - Russ' Cavendish in the Woods! I highly recommend it as a great all day smoke . . . Russ you hit the mark with this one!!!

Delicious
Tasty, just enough smokiness to pair w/ the Cavendish to make it interesting. An aro worth your time!

Wish it was stronger flavor, but would buy again.

Excellent
Smooth and flavorful at the same. Just a light, smooth Cavendish. I really don't how else to describe it, other than how Russ does.

Russ never dissapoints
Russ doesn't dissappoint with his monthly blends and this one is another great addition. Nice and mild, easy to smoke, with a good room note. Let it dry a little bit before you smoke it.

Great Cavendish
Looks like BCA, but this is much better. This blend has great flavor and smokes mild with no bite. Great smoke. I will be back for more.

My favorite of Russ's blends by far!

Satisfying blend
Great smoke, mild yet tasteful, and great aroma. I mix it with black Cavendish and makes a delightful blend. Burns very nicely with a nice gentle smoke. Anyone would love this as an all day smoke.

Wonderful Cavendish!
As a newbie to pipes I've discovered I enjoy Cavendish types and this one so far is the best! The name is very appropriate as you have the earthy sense of a peaceful walk in the woods. I just ordered a quantity of this.

Best Cavendished based blend I have smoked in years!
Russ hit it out of the park with this blend. The aroma when you open the bag is just terrific. Packs and burns similar to Lanes BCA. It has the most wonderful taste of any Cavendish based tobacco I have ever smoked. It taste reminds me of a walk in the woods, with a earthy taste similar to when you take a shovel and turn over a shovel full of moist soil. My wife said to me what is that you are smoking? It's has a wonderful smell. I gues that you could say it has a 5 star room note. Great taste, easy to light and burns evenly with a minimum of relights. I realize this is not a very professional review, but I felt I had to share my excitement with my fellow pipe smokers. This one could easily be a all day smoke, you just keep wanting more. Thanks Russ.

Should have bought more!
I am new to pipe smoking but have been testing quite a few different flavors. I started off with a Cavendish and found it to be too mild for my liking. This one it spot on. Smooth, subtle, and reminiscent of a cool fall morning walking through the woods. There is enough flavor here to offset a plain Cavendish without being overbearing. Of course, I love the smell of autumn and for some reason, this seemed to fit right in. This might just become my go-to blend!

Two thumbs up!
This blend immediately brought back memories for me of my childhood and walking through a tobacco shop in the Smoky Mountains in the fall. The room note as well as the bag/tin note were outstanding and those around me admitted to enjoying the smells that were coming from the pipe. The tobacco is a quality Cavendish although heavily cased as it leaves the fingers and the pipe a tad bit sticky. The smoke was cool and surprisingly dry, which wasn't expected due to the amount of moisture and the heavy casing. Smooth and sweet tasting this one gets two thumbs up!

An Autumn Evening
I prefer and usually smoke non-aromatics and reserve the aromatics for times when I will be around family and friends, as not to offend. Last evening was no different. I packed a bowl of Cavendish in the Woods, which I received in my PTotMC. It lit easily and smoked cool with a little burbling but nothing to write home about. I then proceeded to rake leaves for the kids to play in. While raking the leaves my wife lightheartedly said, “you smell like a grandpa.” When hearing this I stopped raking, leaned against the rake, put my hand in my vest pocket, took a deep puff, released the smoke slowly into the air and said, “thank you.” (It’s not a compliment most 36yo would be proud to hear but it was satisfying. Thanks Russ!)

mild and pleasant, worth trying
I received this in the October Tobacco of the Month and have really enjoyed it. It smokes well in all of my pipes and I have been turning to it more and more. It's rather mild, smokes cool and smells great. A nice Sunday morning treat with the paper or an evening night cap (as I typically prefer the non-aromatics). Worth trying!

A nice Fall aromatic
I have been smoking this blend quite a bit over the past week. I think Russ did a great job on this one. The blend appears to be rather heavily cased as my fingers are actually sticky after packing a bowl. That being said, the flavor is very appealing and the blend smokes cool, and burns to a fine ash. Nice job Russ.

Nice Smoke!
Received this in the Tobacco of the Month Club and I was not disappointed. Great flavor that burns evenly without tongue burn. Emits a nice smoke that doesn't go out. An excellent treat for the Autumn season.

Walk in the woods
Received this in the tobacco of the month package. I must say its a very satisfying smoke. Subtle fruit notes and not to sweet. I will be ordering a few ounces.

Unremarkable
I am an exclusive aromatic smoker. The quality of tobacco was very good, it burned well and did not bite. The room note was pleasant. However, I found the taste to be somewhat unremarkable, not bad, but it just doesn't stand out as well as some of the other "Russ Blends" I have tried. No reason to add this to my rotation.

Autumn is Pipe Season! This Blend Proves it!
Well I shall respectfully round out the viewpoint of the previous patron by saying that I am a true 'die-hard' fan of aromatics, (the Cavendish heavy in particular) With that said, I love this leaf enough to write a review which I rarely do compared to the amount of purchases I make here. For comparison, I'd relate it to a good ole' 1Q or BCA, yet somehow better. While the flavours are complex and wholly satisfying, they are not remarkably unique. No. Where this 'baccy shines is in the quality of the selected leaf (a standard for all P&C blends both aero and not), as well as the unique ability to create an easy-going bowl which stays lit, dry, and bite free, with zero effort til the last vapour. To Mr. Oullette I say two things; First, that I appreciate your attention to quality and value, especially to often marginalized aromatics. Second, that I truly hope you continue to produce each monthly blend beyond its novelty period for those of us who love to continually collect, stock, and sample your goods. P.S. Happy to have you gents of the P&C crew here in good 'ole PA and hope that you stick around as long as possible (even though I have to pay that nasty 6%, it is every bit worth it to me) Try this blend with a delicious local Yuengling Oktoberfest or Stegmaier Pumpkin Ale for a special treat of autumn contentment!

Average at best.
I received this as part of the Pipe Tobacco of the Month Club's October shipment. Average blend at best. The only disappointing part of the October shipment. But I must admit, I am neither a fan of black Cavendish nor of aromatics in general.

Great Flavor and Aroma
Delicious and aromatic. Smoked well in my Pertersen as well as in my cob.
