Every so often, a line of pipes comes along that has almost universal appeal, and the Savinelli Cumberland Smooth Pipes certainly falls into that group. First, these smooth briars come in five classic shapes, and the production of each shape is limited to 500 pieces. Of course, one of the things that makes these pipes stand out is the use of brown and brick red, true cumberland for the stems. Then, Savinelli selected a rich chestnut stain for the wood that works beautifully with the handsome mouthpieces. A slim silvertone trim ring adds to the time-honored appearance. Because of the softer nature of the reddish vulcanite stems, they chose to make these unfiltered to preserve the integrity of the tenon. These stack up well against some of the treasured English pipes, at around a quarter of the price.
