Seattle Pipe Club - Plum Pudding Special Reserve

On a shelf in a warehouse, a small quantity of special small-leaf tobaccos were found. When they were discovered, they were offered to Joe lankford, the blender of the Seattle Pipe Club blends. Rather than coming up with a whole new blend, Joe took these rare tobaccos and substituted them for some of the Orientals in his very popular Plum Pudding. Plum Pudding Special Reserve is a limited release version of his bold Balkan cake in a 4 oz. plug, featuring these very rare sun-cured tobaccos. Save on Seattle Pipe Club’s Plum Pudding Special Reserve here and enjoy this one-of-a-kind blend.

Great burning with very nice flavor
It has a surprisingly horrible tin note (smells like big foot's dick) but more than makes up for that with the smoke flavor. I tripled my purchase the second order.

Great flavor, not too strong. My go-to smoke. Not your average pipe tobacco!

Not what I was hoping for
Plum Pudding Reserve aims at something like My Mixture 965, except that everything is jumbled together like corned beef hash. It's good. It's high quality leaf. But to me it's too monochrome. Room note is balkanish, in a pleasant way, but the individual components get lost in the sauce, as it were. It's such a tightly packed plug, that when I light it I have to be careful about lit pieces jumping out of my pipe onto my shirt. I probably won't buy this again, but if someone offers me some, I'll gladly enjoy it.

My "go to" smoke
I like this blend and it is rapidly becoming my choice for my everyday tobacco. It is excellent on it's own but for a personal touch I add a bit more Latakia.

Great blend
I've been smoking a pipe for quite a few years. I normally mix my own blend. I prefer a smoky/sweet tobacco. The Reserve blend delivers this in spades!! It's now my favorite pipe tobacco. It doesn't have a bad aroma when you open the can--it smells like latakia and dried fruit and that's how it tastes when lit. Outstanding! Try it and see.

Might not be what you expect, but will become a favorite.
My first experience with this world-class tobacco was not a pleasant one. Having only smoked aromatics, this stuff, when first opened, smelled awful and smoked harshly. I couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about. After reading some reviews and letting it age a bit and dry a little after opening, a whole new world of pipe smoking opened up to me. If your first impression is like mine, be patient with PPSR, you won’t regret it.

Very incredible contrast between unlit and lit experience
In the can it smells like feet and raw ass but has wonderful flavor and room note once lit, it's actually quite amazing.

Everything it claimed to be and more
It honestly lives up to the hype. It’s slightly tangy slightly sweet with a hint of bourbon in the retro hail. I wasn’t expecting it to burn ass cool as it did and the fluffy white ash said it all at the end. A truly enjoyable experience with notes of zesty fruits the entire way through. This is worth the time effort and cost of cellaring. I’ll be adding it to my collection asap!!!

Absolutely Wonderful!
I have smoked pipes for over 50 years and this is the BEST PIPE TOBACCO I have ever smoked. Have over 40 tobaccos in my rotation but alway come back to this as the best.

Subtle and luxurious, a flavor experience
I bought this in a large order of items and forgot about it, so it has cellared it for a few years. I found it this morning and opened it up. I let it breathe a little. Now I am kicking myself for missing out on it all this time. Instant addition to the favorites list. I had gotten a bit bored with the usual English blends, burleys tend to make me a little nicotine sick, and I was never an aromatic fan. This Balkan blend is a wonderful flavor experience and it is not too strong. A little sweet, warm, and and very earthy, with nice overtones of Turkish leaf. A nice marriage of ingredients, very consistent and smooth. A total winner.

Perfectly balanced
Easily in my Top Ten favorite pipe tobaccos. Perfect balance. Intriguing yet pleasing aroma. Not much of a bite but the nic is definitely there. Subtly sweet. Nice way to close out the evening.

Plum Pudding Reserve is a truly unique smoke
I am not one to post reviews. I smoke aromatics and have my favorites. My experience is everyone is different in what they like and I respect that. I tried Plum Pudding Reserve after reading some reviews so it's only fair to pass along that I really like this blend. It is twice the price of the bulk mix I do myself but it is unique and worth it to me. I just ordered 4 more tins. If you like aromatics I think it is worth trying even if its only for special occaisions

Superior!
I'm a new pipe smoker, and have really only smoked aromatics like sutliffs vanilla custard before, but this blend has opened the door for me. It burns a lot cooler, and the flavors are definitely more organic; it smokes a lot smoother and I honestly enjoy smoking this more than the aromatics I already have.

My New Favorite Tobacco Blend
I suppose the first thing that intrigued me about SPC’s Plum Pudding Reserve was the story of its discovery “..on a shelf in a warehouse.” Is it true? I have no idea. But it was enough to convince me to give it a try. I wasn’t disappointed. This Balkan blend has no bite, a nice slow burn, and a pleasant room note. This may be my new favorite tobacco. Plus, I can regale any curious individuals with the tale of its discovery on a shelf in a warehouse.

More than one bowl appeal
Ok first off, I did not like this blend from the start. The smell opening the tin wasn't pleasant to me at all. I think this has a lot Oriental tobacco or English not sure. Now let me say once you let this age a little and let the tobacco dry before smoking wow!! What a difference. I mean I can hardly get enough of this blend now. I am going to be purchasing a good amount to cellar.

I like the way it burns, it's more or less ready too smoke after rubbing it out, A lot of the time it doesn't take lighting a second time (char light)..... no tongue bite... I will be purchasing this again.

Do not hesitate and just buy it!
This is my first time trying something other than the lighter blends/aromatics and I was not disappointed. Probably a crazy jump on my part to invest something like this without really trying anything like it but this stuff is absolutely fantastic and definitely opened up more doors for me to go out and explore more blends like this. Worth every cent, great smoke, love the smell from the can to the room note. Already planning on buying the original plum pudding and trying out other blends from Seattle Pipe Club.

Top Shelf
I don't usually leave comments but this one deserved it. I've been a pipe smoker for about 5 years. I often feel like I miss out on a lot of the nuances that others are able to pick up. But this one is a great teacher. It dares you to disect what you are experiencing. It started off with a very subtle hint of latakia and tang. Then evolved into something more fruitier. I found myself waiting to see what the next puff might reveal. This is great and sent me into another level as a pipe smoker.

Fantastic blend
One of the better blends I've had the pleasure of smoking. It's (for me) an all-day smoke as it's not to overpowering. It's not as strong as a lot of the other blends I lean towards, and it's a welcome change to them.

Bold taste, cool burn
Leather, wood smoke, steak. This blend delivers many bold, burly flavors with an incredibly smooth smoke. You may forget you’re still puffing until that nicotine buzz thwomps you in the head. A unique experience for sure!

Not ready to go out of the tin
Overall a very good blend. I found the tin I received to be very green. Crumbling and jarring helped to marry the flavors a bit, and I believe it will improve more with time.

At first I wasn't too thrilled about SPC Plum Pudding Special Reserve
In fact at some site - I forget which - I gave it an honest and really terrible review for which I am now ashamed. Because what happened was it seemed to undergo a transformation from being left to dry out a day or two. I now regard it like a treasured liqueur, to be only occasionally sipped in small amounts for moments of utter bliss and silent contemplation. I often just remove the lid to sniff the aroma of the solid block, I love that solid block to my mind its redolent of pirates and Treasure Island, that sort of romantic atmosphere, odours hinting of gunpowder, leather, oak, rum, maybe a 16th century East Indiamans hold might have smelled like that. In short I love this tobacco blend, for my money Joe Lankford is a genius at blending.

Mr. Lankfords Seattle pipe club blends are are good quality - esp, the Latakia blends i like, they gave a good steady strong but enjoyable smoke, the latakia flavor in mixture comes out - not weak. - but just about right .

Wonderful, Rich Smoke
This is one of top blends I've ever smoked. The flavor is rich and stays consistent throughout the bowl. The strength is what I would consider medium, certainly not overwhelming. I think the room note is quite pleasant. The tobacco burns to a fine white ash and completely to the bottom of the bowl. My recommendation to those that haven't tried it yet is to purchase the 4 oz tin. When opening the tin rub out the plug on a sheet of newspaper and leave it open to the air for several hours as there is significant moisture in the tobacco plug. I then store it in a 12/14 oz Ball Canning Jar. I give this blend my highest recommendation.
5 out of 5
This is a forever smoke!
It has to be the best blend I have ever had. It is so smooth that it never burns my nostrils. Even the ash isn’t ashy. It has a perfect balance. Nothing is more pronounced more that the other. Perfect! You know how they say that a smoke is an all day smoke? Well, this is a forever smoke!!

Smoked Brisket
I enjoyed this one very much. It smokes smooth and cool, stays lit, and has a great smoky flavor and powerful tin note from the dark fireds that reminds me almost exactly of a good smoked beef brisket. The room note is quite mellow, however, and while I usually have to be in a certain mood to enjoy dark fired blends, I will definitely be jarring this one away to enjoy more often in the future. It's a bit expensive, but it's a premium blend, after all, and well worth it, in my humble opinion. If you enjoy smoky, dark fired blends or just want something to jar away for special occasions, I say this is certainly a good blend to look at.

New Favorite !
Since trying PPSR, it has become my number one smoke. Great in a cob !

I actually prefer the regular Plum Pudding ...
Don't get me wrong, this is an outstanding mixture in its own right, but to my palate, the regular Plum Pudding has a much better “finish”. I love the long lingering aftertaste of the regular Plum Pudding, which the Reserve doesn’t seem to quite have (to me anyway). This will probably get better as it ages however, so I’ll just smoke a bowl on special occasions every few months and see. Still a great smoke.

Oriental and...
I opened this after finishing a wonderful tin of Mississippi River special reserve. The crumble cakes look the same, but they are vastly different. This one is very oriental forward. At first I found myself wanting a little more Latakia flavor, but realized that would make it les distinct from M.R S R. Now after half stinks, I am enjoying the heavy oriental supported by a light touch of Latakia. Floral, slightly sweet and a welcome diversion from the heavier Latta English tobaccos i often enjoy. Burns slow and well and is a good change of pace. Like all Seattle Pipe club offerings I've tried, superb quality and an interesting, satisfying smoke.

This is the first non aromatic that I have tried (always went for the heavily cased tobacco). If you have never tried a non aromatic and want an easy bridge over than I highly recommend this. It opened a whole new world of tobacco for me.

Great blend. In my top five.

Satisfied
Tin note fruity, fermented, smoke smell. First time smoking these combinations of tobaccos. Right out of tin was beautiful smoke. Tasted herbs and spices and fermented qualities, not really any strong tongue bite, and what i really enjoyed throughout the whole bowl was the fruity sweetness that would envelope my tongue ever so gently and then disappear and then come back time and time again. Smoked perfectly to bottom of bowl. This is what a smoking experience should be, getting you excited to load the next one and appreciate the finer things in life. Two thumbs up!

Better than the real thing!
Without doubt this is the finest pipe tobacco I have had. There is no topping in this blend, but the flavor of dried fruit and citrus peel are prominent and show what a truly skilled blender with access to top leaf can do. Lights well and stays lit without too much fuss.

Excellent
This is a very high quality excellent tobacco, the richness and just the right amount of latakia make it a great smoking tobacco I actually look forward to it each and every day. Highly recommend

SPC Plum Pudding Special Reserve. Grab it while you can!
So I have had the MS River Spec Reserve and didn’t find it worth the extra coin compared to regular MR so I was skeptical about PP SR, until i tried it. The Plum Pudding SR is one of the most intriguing pipe smokes I have found, without being overdone, which I find in Potlach and a couple other blends out from other retailers. I actually went back and bought 4 more tins of the PP SR, so I could have a total of 1# put into mason jars hoping that time is good for this blend. I just smoked a bowl last evening and it’s easy to sit there in a,aze, rant as you smoke. The special VA and Orientals lift this into its own category that when smoked slowly should give way to a non-biting blend that needs little fuss other than the occasional tamping. The tobacco burned down to a grey ash, which easily poured right out of my pipe. Having it in Kake brownie form gives you option to break it into cubes, crumble or just tear it into flake, and you can decide how to pack the pipe. This is a limited releas and justifies that extra $6-$7 per oz. in my humble opinion.

The Best
This is hands down the best tobacco I have ever smoked. Infinitely better than regular SPC Plum Pudding. This will be my go to tobacco.

Well worth smoking every day
It has a very strong smell, right from the can, some can describe the smells, that the nose picks up the different flavors, but in smoking plum pudding is very pleasing and relaxing, the flavor is like being outside watching snow flakes falling all around you. with know one around and the moment is peace and enjoyment. I can not imagine no one liking this tobacco, but I will keep on smoking it and one day, buy more and enjoy as I do. Thanks to all who make it for all to enjoy.

Plumb Pudding Reserve is plumb good!
I had been curious about SPC's Plumb Pudding for a long time, then they put out the 4 oz. reserve tin and that was my nudge to finally order a tin. I am really glad I did because this stuff is so good. So rich and full of flavor and does'nt burn too hot. This is one of my favorite latakia blends in my rotation.

One bowl wasn't enough !
I usually smoke one bowl in the evening. After cracking my newly purchased tin of plum pudding reserve and smoking the first bowl, I immediately decided to smoke a second. There are many attempts at blends similar to this, but this one is the real deal. So smooth, so flavorful, everything I was expecting. Stop thinking about it and just get some.

Thank goodness it's back in stock. life would not be the same.
a must try for any latakia lover. the flavors are complex and evolving as you smoke. it has a serious backbone of latakia that is very approachable. not over powering. as you get to the end of the bowl something magic happens and all the flavors merge into a cushy sweet pallet feel that delivers flavors of every tobacco in the blend. it is 10 times as good as the regular Plum Pudding. anyone who thinks otherwise has got something wrong with their taste buds. this tobacco is my co-favorite with Penzance. I feel they are on the same level of quality.

Nice stuff
I just ordered a tin after being gifted one. This tobacco should age well. Very similar to the original. I found it to be well balanced and rather full for so young a blend. That said, the same results could be obtained with age on the original blend. My older tins of plum pudding are already showing great promise. Will make a great addition to my cellar. I might order more.

So So Good!
Wow...what a fantastic blend. If you like the Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding regular blend (and how you wouldn't I am sure I don't know) you will LOVE the Reserve. Complex and continually changing this tobacco burns fantastic and is enjoyable from the first puff to the bottom of the bowl. A terrific all day blend, this may very well be my new favorite (I immediately bought a couple more tins after the first smoke) and I already miss it knowing that soon it will all be gone!

This is NOT the most excellent tobacco you are looking for.
I waited to write a review until I stocked up! If you are a fan of the original SPC Plum Pudding, then do yourself a favor and buy this. A tin to smoke and a few to age. You won't be disappointed!

Do Not Buy This
Do not purchase any of this. It tastes like raw sewage so I am preparing to purchase a large quantity so no one else will have to smoke it. By so doing, pipes and cigars will not have it on Back Order thereby leaving more for me.
