Seattle Pipe Club - Seattle Evening

Seattle Pipe Club's Seattle Evening is another real treat from master blender Joe Lankford. For the club's 2008 annual dinner, Joe decided to create a blend for the Orientals lovers, so he combined Cyprian Latakia with a blend of Turkish tobaccos along with a very well-known Oriental tobacco and matured Virginias. Seattle Evening is smooth and exotic - smoky, spicy and sweet. The fragrance is intoxicatingly bright and it's easy on the tongue and palate. If you enjoy Orientals-forward blends and you haven't tried Seattle Evening, you need to get some of this SPC blend post-haste.

The balance is what impresses
The balance is what impresses me. An English blend that doesn't overpower, but its taste and aroma are delightfully different for those who smoke aromatics during the day.

Not for me!
This Seattle Evening doesn't suit my taste. I like a more Latakia dominant smoke. The Orientals adds some sourness to it which I also am not a fan of.

Very mild but tasty.

Miss my Nightcap
This blend takes the edge off Nightcaps demise. Not exactly the same but reminds me of the Blue Labeled tins that I can no longer acquire. Cheers

Good morning smoke.
I received a tin of Seattle Evening a few weeks ago. Right out of the gate I noticed that (for me) it was a Goldilocks zone as far as moisture. So, as a result I just put it in a jar right away. Lights easily. Stays lit quite well. Burns fairly cool. No tongue bite. My only nitpick is that this isn’t a blend I would go to for the “end of the day” smoke as the name somewhat suggests. It’s a little light. So I have been enjoying it as a morning or all day smoke. It would be a great introduction blend for the aromatic smoker interested in trying other tobaccos. Worth getting a tin and giving it a try. Cheers!

Seattle Evening
Only had one bowl so far and have to give it a 3. It seemed a little dry so I packed it right away. It seemed to me I had to re-light more then other tobacco's. I'll give an update after I smoke some more.

Seattle Evening Experience
I thought my tin of this blend was too dry to be a good smoke. I am pleased to say that judgment was incorrect. It was a great choice to smoke through my churchwarden. I will quite likely purchase more in the future.

Great tobacco
Really a great tobacco, I find the opening aroma of Plum and raisin. Moisture content just right for an immediate bowl, its an easy light and easy to maintain. Plenty of color contrast among the different leaves, short cut medium-thick ribbon. The flavor is well balanced, it is mild enough to smoke all day with a really pleasant aroma and taste. I would recommend this for all of the folks out there, except those who want a big latakia component.

Excellent well balanced mixture, from top to bottom.

Quite an Evening
I really like this stuff. It's a bit different from bowl to bowl. First time was very campfirey smokey, then the next was spice, next was more citrus than anything else. Would give it a 5 star, but found a stray, pipe clogging wood chip or stem in 2nd pipe load. No biggie. It is enjoyable.

Seattle Evening excellent at the end of the day
Another fine tobacco from Seattle Pipe Club. The Evening mix is my go to at the end of the day.

Current favorite blend
A complex English blend that provides several layers of exploration. The Latakia is clearly present but is balanced nicely so that it never overwhelms the rest of the components. Every time I smoke Seattle Evening I discover something new and different. Highly recommend.

...Not loving it, yet !
After many years, I've pick up the pipe again, and put the cigars down. Always smoked aromatics sI thought I would venture to some exotics. Well, it is definitely different. I can taste the spice that everyone mentions, and it is not too strong a smoke. Again, no bite, as mentioned. After several bowls I am not too crazy about the "spice". If you like the "spice" then you will love this blend. I will give it another try, but for now I will age it in my humidor, and maybe it will mellow in time.

Ummm..yeah.
SPC does it so well. Evening blend that doesn't hit you will a lot of Nicotine. At least not from what I felt.

Makes the Tast Buds Dance
Very sharp and tasty. Seattle Evening will be one of my go-to blends when I want a smoke with the great latakia snap to the tongue.

Get on board the Seattle Express!
Okay....this was the very first English blend I really enjoyed. (Not pretended to enjoy.) Dunhill apertiff came close, but this stuff is simply exotic. It has a floral spicy top note that reels you in. It smells english but has so much more going on. Up to now, frog morton and a few aero' s were my bag. This stuff has solidified a home rotation with the Bri-Guy! I would also be remiss if I did not mention how nice the cut is. Very well done with an Olympic chant USA-USA chant behind it! Well done Seattle dudes!

A Latakia Favorite
Seattle Evening is a much drier blend. It burns much hotter and faster than some of SPC's other blends. But it's loaded with a spicy bite, and that's a very good thing! I dig this one very much.

Beautifully Balanced...
Smooth, rich and satisfying - nice balance, Latakia up front, Virginias right behind, a tasty Oriental adding a perfect touch.

Seattle Evening
I am relatively new to the enjoyment of pipe smoking, so I have been sampling different types. This one is sure to be one I will buy again. Pleasant and relaxing and most important, the wife enjoyed the aroma!

My new go-to English blend
Now here's a really special blend. I've been on the fence, having settled in to a Squadron Leader / Mixture 965 / Apertif rotation when I want an English blend. But, I had heard good things about SPC, and thought this would be a good introduction. I have to say, I'm really impressed. It doesn't have the Latakia punch that you'd get from a Dunhill blend, but it's present and very smooth. And, it doesn't have quite the smokiness Squadron Leader delivers, but there's a spiciness in the background that makes it a very interesting smoke. What I really noticed, is that it's almost impossible to get Seattle Evening to bite. If you're starting out with pipe smoking or just moving from aromatics, it's a really smart choice.
Customer Testimonials
I was waiting anxiously for this blend based on the high marks and reviews. Admittedly, I was a bit disappointed. Not bad, just not remarkable or great. I doubt I will return to this blend often, but I will allow it to cellar for a while and give a try again.

The last of the Seattle Pipe Club's trifecta for me to try, it absolutely did not disappoint! If you are a fan of Balkan blends like Blue Mountain, this should move to your 'knock over your Mama to get some' list!
MC of Sandpoint, ID
This just arrived today and is what I'm enjoying as I write this. Lighter than my other Seattle Pipe Club favorite, Mississippi Mud, but with a wonderful, honeyed whiskey taste to it that makes my wife simply say "Yum". I will enjoy adding to the rotation and am sure to order again.
DU of Termo, CA
Latakia is the front runner for this blend. If you enjoy their Mississippi River regularly and are looking for a change of pace, this is a must try.
