Seattle Pipe Club's Seattle Evening is another real treat from master blender Joe Lankford. For the club's 2008 annual dinner, Joe decided to create a blend for the Orientals lovers, so he combined Cyprian Latakia with a blend of Turkish tobaccos along with a very well-known Oriental tobacco and matured Virginias. Seattle Evening is smooth and exotic - smoky, spicy and sweet. The fragrance is intoxicatingly bright and it's easy on the tongue and palate. If you enjoy Orientals-forward blends and you haven't tried Seattle Evening, you need to get some of this SPC blend post-haste.
I was waiting anxiously for this blend based on the high marks and reviews. Admittedly, I was a bit disappointed. Not bad, just not remarkable or great. I doubt I will return to this blend often, but I will allow it to cellar for a while and give a try again.
The last of the Seattle Pipe Club's trifecta for me to try, it absolutely did not disappoint! If you are a fan of Balkan blends like Blue Mountain, this should move to your 'knock over your Mama to get some' list!
This just arrived today and is what I'm enjoying as I write this. Lighter than my other Seattle Pipe Club favorite, Mississippi Mud, but with a wonderful, honeyed whiskey taste to it that makes my wife simply say "Yum". I will enjoy adding to the rotation and am sure to order again.
Latakia is the front runner for this blend. If you enjoy their Mississippi River regularly and are looking for a change of pace, this is a must try.
