Feels perfect- smokes so fine!
Perfect pipe for my hand. I can feel the care and craftsmanship that went into forming the smooth round bowl. The briar blends perfectly with the shape of the mouthpiece. Draws nice and heats up subtly. Looking forward to a long relationship.

Lovely pipe
I got the last one of the Authentic 15. I may have been a little skeptical of this pipe at first, yet you should be jealous because it is an exquisite pipe at a very reasonable price point. Each draw is smooth and easy, and fits well in the hand.

Stanwell Authentic 83
Great Pipe. Just had a few puffs and it's already getting a great color. It's very smooth to touch and I had no gurgling, even with a robust tobacco.

I like the smoke. It’s also good looking, feels good in the hand and has a good sized bowl. I plan on buying another #63.

Being an unfinished pipe, it a smooth smoker and the color is darkening up nicely. Thats what i like about the non finish.

Awesome pipe
Due to the finish, this pipe will age as you use it, and take on a unique patina. It smokes clean and cool. As a somewhat wet pipe smoker, there was very little gurgling, possibly due to its bore size? It takes 9mm Stanwell filters so be sure to stock up on those, or buy the 9mm filter adapter. Also be aware this pipe is bigger than it looks. 😏

Cheers for an Authentic 63
I first bought a Stanwell 63 back in 1974 when wandering into a tobacconist in Kendal, UK. I loved the shape, and I smoked it daily and so forth. It lasted until a few years ago when I had to retire it. A few years ago, shape 63 didn't seem available, and then all of a sudden Pipes & Cigars began carrying a number of them. While it's possible now to have 63 in any number of finishes, I do enjoy starting from raw briar for two reasons. First, I feel that the pipe itself "breathes" easier, allowing a cooler smoke. Second, seeing how the pipe colors over time gives a feeling of deep satisfaction. Even after a year, a raw 63 can have as much coloration as any stained pipe, but there's the joy of doing it yourself. I wound up buying three of them. Why risk having anything happen? I believe that Stanwell has discontinued the line, so what is available now is what there is.

Bought yet another one...
What can I say? Just bought my third one.... Great pipe, great value. Love the way it darkens over time much like meerschaum. Also smokes cool and dry.

Above pipe
Really nice pipe, daily smoker, 9 mm adapter proved to be invaluable because of plugged filters or bad filters. BowlColor changes to a light to medium brown quicker than expected but all in all a very good pipe for a daily smoker

Pipe dream
Great bowl and great smoke

Great pipe and great price!
Well made with balanced shape. Several of my pipes are unfinished/natural and love the way the briar changes color and tone over time as it is being used. I bought the 29 as a follow up purchase to getting the 107. I didn't realize how small the 107 was (it's the same shape as the 29) but as the price was great and figured may as well splurge and have 2. The 107 is working out just as well. A third Stanwell Authentic is surely in my future!

Authentics are nice but this one's a shrimp...
The Authentics seem nice pipes for the price. Only problem was I didn't realize the Authentic 107 was such a tiny pipe. Never thought it was not a normal size. Should have ordered the Authentic 29. Well, it's breaking in nicely and will use as a novelty smoke.

Stairwell Authentic -- a great pipe soon to be discontinued by P&C
The Stanwell Authentic is one of those rare finds that one wants to just keep in rotation constantly. The only way keep from doing that is to buy several. Each one I have shows a different grain and the color change is more pronounced with blends higher in Perique, Latikia and Virginias. The problem --PIPES AND CIGARS won't keep these at a decent inventory level so there's little hope we'll ever have the opportunity to buy them again. More's the pity, these are great pipes at reasonab!e price points.

Good Pipe
Good Brier, easy carbon build up and is developing a nice color. It's going to be a good pipe. Well done Stanwell.

One of my favorites
Smokes great, of course. I immediately applied some Decatur Pipe Wax (available here) and it got a pleasing color to it.

Stanwell Authentic 32
Ruggedly stout, well-balanced, and with AAA grain for an unfinished briar. Excellent buy!

A wreath of soft smoke encircling my thoughts, and softening my memories.
Already beginning to ripen. The caramel tones, though faint, are starting on the bowl to blush. I have returned to smoking a pipe after decades of being locked in a smoke free environment. I have yet to find a sweet aromatic blend, with a nutty vanilla presence, that I so loved. This pipe would make a perfect fit.

A quick treatment to get more color
The first thing I did was to apply some of P&C'S "Decatur Pipe Shield" to the briar. That gave it a little more color. The Pot shape has really thick walls, so it smokes even better than I had expected. I'll be looking for more of these in the future.

so nice it was stolen
Very nice pipe - had just started to take on a nice oil finish when it was stolen off of my table in a restaurant we were at. Will buy another when i have the funds.

Great Pipe
You could spend more money but not get a better pipe.

Excellent cherrywood
Beautiful pipe -- love the unfinished look. Stem is longer and has a much shallower angle than many cherrywoods, which I like -- almost needs a full bowl as a counterweight to sit upright. Gets a little hot, though, and has two tiny pockets in the bowl rim, so maybe Stanwell isn't using the highest quality briar for this line. Also wish it came with vulcanite.

Great pipe
My guy loves the pipe but is wondering the best way to clean the stem

Great Smoker
This is my third Stanwell Authentic and I love it. The natural, unfinished briar developes a beautiful amber, brownish tint over time as it is smoked. I’ve always thought these unfinished pipes also smoke better since they seem to “breathe” better due to the lack off finish. I’ll definitely be buying another. Highly recommended.

Great Smoking Pipe
I love this pipe! It smokes well and is comfortable in the hand. I enjoy it with a glass of Scotch and a good book on the patio in the evening.

Authentic Pleasure
The Stanwell Authentic is my first unfinished pipe. I have to say I am very pleased with the smoking characteristics of this particular pipe. Also the color changes it takes on after smoking it a few times really brings out the grain or the briar. Altogether a great pipe at a great price!

Great Value
One could spend more but why? Quality control at Stanwell must be perfect as the pipe I received had only one very minor blemish. Smoking characteristics are flawless.

Fantastic Pipe at an Unbeatable Price
I've been waiting years for a pipe like this, a totally natural bowl with no finish. I think it allows the pipe to "breathe" better and be easier to clean. If it ever gets really unpleasant due to tars I have the idea of soaking the bowl in a neutral spirit and then dry out to sweeten it which can't be done with a typical finished bowl of coarse. It's light weight and the acrylic mouthpiece is very good with the bit not uncomfortably thick as many are. Smokes very dry and cool. Being a totally natural pipe I reserve it for my more natural English blends. This pipe is even better than the pipes I've paid three times as much for. I can't wait to get more.

Perfect
This is a fantastic pipe. First and foremost, it smokes great. stays cool, doesn't feel too heavy, has a seamless build and looks very clean. Mine has already started to color a bit with the oils from my hand, but the color is rich and the way the grain shows through really makes for one of my favorite pipes. for me, its a perfect blend of form and function.

Great pipe. Very comfortable to hold and as you smoke it the oils in your hand will bring out the grain.

Stanwell Authentic
Disliking shinny stuff, I have sometimes buffed out the varnish on some of my pipes. So, I jumped on the occasion to own a pipe without any varnish at all from the start. Just what I wanted, beautiful briar that will acquire a natural patina from age, wear and smoke. It’s a beautifully made pipe. As far as its principal object is concerned, it offers the cool and dry smoke you can expect from a Stanwell. I do hope more options fitted for a 9mm filter will be available in the future.

Stanwell Stands Well for Stan
I have a model #63 circa 1980 that still serves me fine but I couldn’t resist getting another plateau briar 63 in natural without stain or polish.

Absolutely Authentically Amazing!
I received my Stanwell Authentic 15 three days ago, and have smoked it once every night since. Normally I'll let my pipes rest a bit more between smokes especially when new, but I wanted to put it through the paces to see how it holds up, and it's doing just fine. In those three smokes I've loaded it twice with Cornell & Diehl Belmont Station and once with G.L. Pease The Virginia Cream. From the very first smoke, this pipe smoked absolutely fantastic, like a well seasoned briar. The consecutive smokes were just as good, with no gurgle and few relights. The pipe's condition was actually better than it's unfinished Savinelli counterparts, while there are a few minor flaws in the briar, there are no fills, which stand out like a sore thumb on darkening unfinished briar. And they appear to be sanded smoother than the Savinellis as well. Three smokes in, the pipe is already taking on a nice golden hue and promises to darken beautifully as the grain is beginning to show through. The pipe has a rather narrow chamber as compared to the thickness of it's walls, as it is a substantially sized pipe... think Peterson B42 sized bowl but a tad shorter in height, and a tad thicker in diameter. So this one has walls that are quite thick. I may decide to dedicate this pipe to flakes. The stem is a very comfortable, mirror finished acrylic. All in all I'm very pleased with this pipe and it promises to become a fast favorite in my rotation. If you're looking for a lot of bang for your buck, then this is the bunker buster of unfinished pipes.

All Natural
Just received the Authentic 15 and I must say my money was very well spent. Beautifully made all natural briar with a very generous bowl size for a long smoke. Smokes nice and cool...... Definitely considering adding the Authentic 185 to my Stanwell collection.
