Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen Pipes

The Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen series might well be their most iconic line. All of them exhibit the graceful styling for which Stanwell is renowned, but with a unique twist. All of them come with a standard length and a churchwarden stem so you can enjoy your pipe when you're a bit more active, or when you have the time to lounge and relax. These pipes have been scarce in the past few years, so get them while you can!

The Hans Christian Andersen lines are available in three beautiful finishes; Sandblast,Smooth and Flawless.  Stanwell has some of the best sandblast artisans today working in their factory. Each pipe is sandblasted according to the grain of the briar and no two pipes are sandblasted the same. The smooth pipes feature beautiful grain that is highlighted by a wide range of Stanwell stains. The Stanwell Flawless is the rarest pipe available. The briar block must be perfect with no sandpits or blemishes to be designated a Flawless. These pipes are pristine examples of the true beauty of briar.

as expected, it arrived as stated.
Pleasant smoke with either stem. Beautiful to see on the rack, just what I wanted

Stanwell HCA
When these came into stock I just had to buy one. Big Bens have been my favorite but this pipe is taking over as my favorite. I needed a good light churchwarden $ with both stems this was a perfect fit. It smokes great & the 9mm filter is great to catsh moisture & stray ash or tobacco at the end of a bowl . Loss of some reeling in my fingertips draws me to a sandblast as I like the feel of the bowl. Also I selected this for the size of the bowl. Just right for me for my morning contemplation smoke. I have another churchwarden that when full takes 1-11/2 hrs to empty so that is an evening TV pipe . Love the feel, the looks & smokability of this Stanwell & the long stem feels like it should hold up a long time

Good , but...
I've been wanting one for a long time and got it for a great price. Have to give it 4 instead of 5 stars because the craftmanship seems a bit pedestrian. Not bad, but less than expected. I'm sure I will enjoy it.

Hans Christian Andersen / Smooth 2M9
What a great pipe to add to my Stanwell collection. I couldn't pass on the sale price, and I was delighted to discover it came with an additional long stem.

This is a good 'un...
I purchased one of these pipes from P&C five or six (Or was it seven or eight.) years ago and love it. It is reserved for Latakia blends and smoked evenings, usually with a good book and perhaps two or three fingers of good Scotch . Perfect. The bowl appears pretty much flawless, and the short stem option adds to the flexibility. In my nearly five decades of pipe smoking, it surely ranks as one of my all time favorites. Eight Stanwell pipes live in my racks, from the low cost brushed series to my HCA; all of them are my most often used pipes. The one small gripe I have is that both stems fit the shank so tightly that they will only go in about half way. This is a very minor gripe, especially since this is primarily a pipe to be enjoyed while firmly planted in a big easy chair. It has a permanent home on my mantle. Love the thing.

Great Pipe, Great Price
My Stanwell HCA was a wonderful Christmas present, and has added greatly to the pleasures of the season. I have no doubt it will be a good friend throughout the years.

Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen Pipes HCA M1 III Smooth 9mm
A thing of beauty! Its style, the way it’s made, how it fits in your hand, all this brings you back to a long time gone, when craftsmen felt pride in their work. It provides a very smooth smoke either with the standard size stem and its 9 mm filter or as a churchwarden thanks to the length of that stem. This is the only pipe I smoke more than once a day (short stem during the day with coffee and churchwarden in the evening with tea). I’d love to smoke it more often but it is such a good companion I feel I should treat it gently. Maybe get another one? I am trying to find something negative to say so this doesn’t sound like a paid advertisement for Stanwell but I can’t think of anything. Its price? Many pipes out there cost two or three times more and do not offer such a great value. A. S., Florida

Customer Testimonials
Awesome pipes. I waited 4 years for the HCA VII to come back. I also have an HCA II. Both are great smokers, and just simply beautiful pipes. You don't have one? Why not. What is wrong with you. You need one of these pipes
I'll start by saying I'm a huge fan of the higher end Stanwell pipes, and I have really wanted one of these HCA's. Well I finally pulled the trigger and got one. The briar pipe itself is very nice, very classy. I like the short stem and it is good quality, but the church warden stem, which I was most excited about, has some funky warps in it which makes it bend a couple different ways, not a nice smooth bend. Instead it bends down and bends to the side and then the end twists a little too. Looks like they heated a straight stem and just let the heat warp it whatever way it went and just left it at that. Very disappointing. Makes the pipe look silly and cheap. Expected much more from Stanwell.
Ordered my first HCA about two months ago and smoked it during my Christmas break. Grabbed a black calabash style and after burning a few bowls of Meat Pie I'm already browsing the catalog for my next Stanwell. Craftsmanship is excellent, the pipe is a highly functional work of art, and it fits in my hand so well I'd believe it if someone told me it was custom built just for me. I can't decide which stem I like more, the short or the churchwarden, so I'll probably just keep alternating between the two. The pipe comes in its own HCA tube with a black pouch large enough to hold the pipe when fitted with the shorter stem. Great for travel. Stanwell is known for quality but the HCA's are a cut above the rest. They're definitely head turners.
