When you flip open the lid, you'll notice that this is a traditional design, made modern with some great upgrades. First, instead of liquid fuel, this lighter has a soft, side-firing flame, powered by clean burning, no odor butane. The ignition system doesn't use a flint - it's fired up with a piezo electric system that eliminates the need to replace flints, and there's no powdery residue to clog up the works. Worst lighter I have ever purchased, igniter arks away from butane port, might lite once in 30 tries. Valve will not seal off every time causing butane to leak out. I would not recommend this item to anyone. Absolute junk!

Reading/seeing other reviews, I didn't expect much, but with proper purging and filling, it's a pretty reliable little lighter. I like the clear reservoir, so you can tell the fill volume. It doesn't light every time, so it can't get 5 stars, but overall, recommendable.

I was disappointed I couldn't find a genuine zippo with a butane pipe insert but this is the next best thing. The case the insert is in is identical to a zippo case as far as I can tell. My only complaint as others have pointed out is that it's very hard to pull the insert out (which is a requirement in order to fill it.) I finally got it out after several tries. My hope is that after removing and inserting it several times it will get easier. I am very happy with the operation once filled. Nice soft adjustable flame at just the right angle. Very reasonably priced.

This is just junk! Just getting the resivour out was almost impossible and when I did it appeared is was sanded to make it fit to make it usable. Once I got it out to fill it there were two chips out of it so one could not fill it as the butane would just leak out. Customer service gave me credit towards I hope a better lighter. Don't wast your money. Stanwell should be embarrassed putting there name on this.

first off, i’ve had it just about 3 weeks and it is already broken with the butane tank having separated from the top. when it was working, it was a little tricky to use. if i wasn’t careful, i’d burn my thumb. while the flame comes out the side, it bends back up unless you’re quick with the draw, hence the thumb burning. given how quickly it broke, i can’t recommend buying it.

Stanwell Z-Plus Lighhter

I also have the Decatur and Hearth & Home Z-Plus lighters. They all use the same Z-Plus insert. The insert is meant to fit snugly but not tight in the case. Be prepared to do a little 'surgery' if the insert will not come out by hand. I had to do it on the Hearth & Home, and the Stanwell was even more difficult to remove. The fit can be improved my sanding the sides of the insert with coarse sandpaper. Fill the lighter using normal procedures and check for proper operation before inserting. All three lighters perform perfectly. They are great for pocketing as the case prevents contamination of the butane exit and the igniter.

I got this with a Stanwell pipe for Christmas. It's been very reliable. It always lights, and the angle makes it a lot easier to light your pipe. I also use it through out the day as my cigarette lighter, so it's been used a lot. Only drawback is the limited fuel tank. It only lasts a day or two before I need to re-fill it.

Looks and works Great!! Have refilled it multiple times and it still works like new. It even works first time every time in the cold. Most butane lighters I've had don't like cold weather. This one doesn't care. It just works. I've even bought one for my dad.

Taking back my positive review because only two refills into this lighter and it will not light up anymore. I use 5x refined pure vector butane, follow proper refilling techniques, and there is no reason this thing should not be sparking up. No clue why it wont light anymore. Would not recommend.

I bought a Stanwell 2012 pipe of the year which came with the lighter. Plus there was a buy five 2oz packets for a small price. I am thrilled with the Stanwell pipe, it is glorious and smokes like a dream. The pipe lighter is so very nice. It fits like a Zippo lighter but the flame comes from the side, producing a nice way to light your pipe fully without fear of burning your hand, the pipe or the lighter itself. All very nice. The Peter Stokebye and H&H tobaccos are also very good. Thanks for being such a great company.

I got this for FREE when I purchased my latest Stanwell pipe and LOVE THIS LIGHTER. I have had so many problems with butane lighters taking so many tries to light but so far this one hasn't failed to light first time EVERY TIMER. The only CON is I have arthritis in my had and it is a little hard to use with one had because of the side light. For a NORMAL person, there would be no problem. Will keep updating this post but at this time I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product.
