Sutliff 504C Aromatic English

What do you do when you find that English blends are too heavy and smoky but you like the flavor of Latakia in lighter amounts? Or what about smoking aromatics but you find them a little too one dimensional? Here's the answer - reach for some Sutliff 504C Aromatic English. The base is nutty Burley and smooth black Cavendish with a mellow top note. Then, a measured amount of Cyprian Latakia is added to add depth and a touch of leathery smokiness. Here's one blend where you can get a bit of Latakia satisfaction without driving other people out of the room.

Pretty good
Like all of Sutliff’s products, this ones good, even really good, but not great. One of my husband’s favorites though.

A very nice smoke!
A very nice English, with just a bit of an aromatic variation. It isn't too strong in either direction (not too much casing/flavoring, and not too smokey/latakia powered). Enjoyable, without being singular. A nice part of the rotation, if not an all day superstar.

Great crossover
This blend is great as a crossover aromatic/English blend. Enough Latakia to let you know that it is an English, but with enough sweetness to appeal to aromatic smokers. Good value.

Gives the aura of what Sherlock may have smoked

Nice, satisfying smoke.
Very interesting blend. Reminds me of Lane HGL, in fact, I don't taste much of a difference between the two. Nice smoky flavor, thick, surprisingly cool smoke with just enough Latakia for my taste. Highly recommended.

Close to Frog Morton
I was looking for a replacement for Frog Morton and this is very close and and certainly a good alternative.

English Aromatic
I usually do not care for any aromatics. But I must admit 504C pleasantly surprised me. Nice change off from my regular English blends. pleasant room note and flavor, mild and you can smoke it all day long. give 504C a try. I think you will come back for more.

Love this stuff
I have been smoking this since I started smoking pipes almost a decade ago. I found it when I was starting to experiment with English tobaccos and this was a perfect bridge from aromatic to English. Now I enjoy both. The flavor is a perfect mashup of sweet and smoky and the room note is one of the best.

Appropriate Name
A very nice and unique bland. I like burley, black Cavendish, latakia, English blends, and aromatic blends. And this fills the bill on all counts. It does not have that 'flavored' taste that some aromatics do, and neither does it stink to high heaven like some English blends to. It's quite 'people friendly' Some of my favorite English blends are simply not house broken. This is good enough and inexpensive enough to be an all-day smoke, but I prefer to smoke it when I can relax and give it my full attention

Excellent Gateway
If your trying to slide into English blends look no further. This has a latakia bump but, enough sweetness to round it out. Give it a whirl

Wonderful all day
A wonderful smoke. One I will enjoy all day. A great burn and a wonderful room note that you will enjoy and others around you will as well. A great crossover blend! Thank you

not bad at all, but not quite for me
I have never been able to acquire a taste for latakia, and was hoping this might do the trick. It comes close, but not quite. I might try adding some BCA and see how that works. For someone looking to make the foray from aromatics into english tobaccos, this might well be an excellent choice.

Aromatic English, Good Idea, Good Blend.
A few months ago I hadn't heard of Sutliff 504C, now it's my everyday smoke. I've always been a fan of English blends and this one works very well for me, It's not to light and it's not to heavy. On your next tobacco order get a small amount and see what you think,---enjoy.

Nice all day smoke.
This is my go-to all-day smoke. It's got just the right amount of all the elements and the compliment each other well. It is a little more moist than most tobaccos so make sure you let it dry out really well before smoking it. I offered a bowl to a friend and left the room for a moment. When I returned, I caught a whiff of this and exclaimed, "Oh my gosh! That smells so good! When I think of pipe tobacco, I'm thinking of this." There's a great foundation of burley that offers some earthy nuttiness. Then there's the light vanilla of the black cavendish. And ever so gently--just wafting in now and then--there's the incense hint of the Latakia. There's a liquor or dark fruit smell, too (like rum or plum). It's a very well blended...blend and, like I said, the tobaccos compliment each other very well. Burns at a normal rate with average relights. But it can burn hot/steamy if you don't let it dry out some. I would also so slow down a little when smoking this to REALLY get a taste of the different tobaccos. A really nice all-day smoke. Highly recommended.
