This is my go to,
This is my go to, daily smoke. It has all the Smoky campfire with a little extra. Love this stuff !

Very tasty
Excellent flavor and really smokes cool and clean. I have had 0 tongue bite and I have smoked about 6 bowls full now. The room note is very light, but big on taste, and leaves no nasty aftertaste. It is a regular in my rotation now. You can’t go weong on this one.

When blended tastes even better than Shortcut to Mushrooms
Great on its own! If you mix it with a little Crumble Kake Red Virginia though omg. Taste of this blend reminds me of the discontinued Shortcut to Mushrooms from JFH but more like cream of mushroom soup than before.

Savory,smoky,light to medium English.
This is a light to medium English..I like it,it sat in my stash unopened for many months..but when I finally got to it,found it to have all the great attributes of a smoky, mellow, sweet English...the Latakia is a team player, not overwhelming the blend...it seems to have a slightly more savory character, not just smoky..probably as a result of the blended components...a VERY good cool burning, smoky savory sweet blend that has a great price and is definitely worth a try for those of us who like English blends.

Blend #5
Very sweet smelling tobacco, second time I've ordered it.

Balanced!
Simply put, one of the most balanced Latakia blends I’ve ever had. The burley really makes it smooth and rounds out the blend. I wish more Latakia blends have burley in them. Smooth, nutty, smokey, and balanced!

An all day smoke
If you just started smoking a pipe or are looking to branch out from aromatics this is the blend to start off with. If you’re an experienced smoker looking for something to knock your socks off this is not the blend for you. That being said there is still flavors here that even an experienced tobacco smoker will find enjoyable. Definitely pick it up if it’s on sale.

Long time Friend
Have had this in my rotation for a good while now. Stocked up a little with P&C always great service. The blend it's self fills the ticket for the need for a cross over English.

Pleasant "light" and sweet English Type
A very delightful "light" English similar to Shortcut to Mushrooms (my favorite of this type) which is no longer available. This replaces it nicely for me.

Burley-licious!
I was looking for a nice, not too stout English blend for my “winter stash”. My taste in pipe tobacco is fairly ecclectic, but these days I am definitely a Va/Per and straight Virginia guy. Still, I also regularly smoke the milder burley-based blends, particularly the so-called “old codger” or otc blends. But for this winter, I really wanted to try some new blends, particularly those from companies I'm not familiar with or have limited experoience with. Plus, I wanted to get some “heavier” blends like English/Balkan blends and some more or less straight burley blends. So, I came across Sutliff's Private Stock series, and Blend No. 5 sounded like a promising cold weather blend. The 1.5 ounces came in a rather large tin. Upon opening, the tin note was largely latakia with maybe a hint of the nutty burley. My tin/pouch/baggie note sniffing abilities are not all that keen. Others may discern more. Tobacco Reviews indicates burley, latakia and Virginia as the component tobacco. The cut is a chunky/ribbon mix. It looks like tobacco. The moisture content was fine. I didn't need to dry it at all. It loaded and lit up easily enough with plenty of smoke from the latakia. The first taste I got was certainly the latakia. The latakia has the driver's seat in this blend, in my opinion, but it is not a reckless driver. I don't care for “lat bombs”. I mean, Pirate Kake is just too much for my tastes. I'd say the most latakia-forward blend that I really enjoy is GLP Quiet Nights. Love the stuff! It's so well balanced. Blend No. 5 probably has less latakia than Quiet Nights, and as the bowl progresses I was able to taste the nutty burley and a bit of sweetness and maybe some hay from the Virginia. All three components show up and the blend is pretty well balanced. But the latakia is the primary player here, I think. All in all, this is a good blend that is mild enough to be an all day smoke for some, and perhaps a good introductory blend to those looking to try out English style.

I first purchased sutliff blend
I first purchased sutliff blend 5 at the Richmond pipe show in September, I was bent on finding a decent quality blend at a affordable price. After explaining too the rep what I didn't want, no shag,no ribbon cut, no periqe. It should have latakia as to not overwhelm and burley in a flake or a very rough cut. Blend 5 is a relaxing flavorful smoke I didn't need to fight to keep cool or keep lit. The only drawback for me, it's not offered in bulk.

Very similar to frog morton
Mild tast with a hint of latakia. Very enjoyable. Replaced my frog morton which was my favorite blend

Better than I first thought...
Revising my previous review...this is a very good light Latakia Blend. Tasty, sweet, only a tiny bite. Could be a bit more robust but for the ‘new to Latakia’ smoker, you couldn’t do much better. I had ordered four tins at the great price and I’m glad I did. I’m enjoying every bowl of it. I’m still a dedicated Dunhill fan but this one is excellent and deserves a try.

Needs muscle...
Great looking blend of chunks and ribbons and tumbled Virginia. I could actually pick out bits of the mixture. It went from the mailbox to my kitchen and into a favorite deep bowl freehand. Easy light, steady burn, lotsa Latakia flavor and aroma but not much feedback from the other components. I don’t normally mix factory blends but as I’m puffing and sipping, I keep thinking about tossing in some Prince Albert or Half & Half to add body and sweetness...a sacrilege? I guess my point is that it needs some strength and character and I’m thinking that a heavier burley content with some added sweetness would improve things...having said that and admitting that we each have different tastes. I will give it an average score...great value but lacks character...good Latakia intro but not up to Dunhill levels of blending skill. I own four tins and will happily use them up but I may tweak them with other additions.

Blend 5
Ive enjoyed everything Sutliff has produced so far that I tried, but this smells like a moldy cedar closet mixed with fresh varnish. The aroma is so repulsive to me there is no way it could possibly taste any better, maybe one day I can bring myself to smoke it but not anytime soon, I will be playing it safer from here on in.

#5 is the BEST!
My new favorite blend! As a longtime Sutliff diehard, I've been enjoying their Private Stock aromatics for years. Now that my palate has evolved/expanded a bit, I decided to try #5 as so many friends had recommended it. No wonder why it's always on backorder, it's AWESOME. Flavorful but not overpowering. Very smooth. No bite at all. Very nice finish. An exceptional mild latakia blend for everyday rotation. Highly recommended!

Blend no 5
Great and smooth to smoke. Has a little bit of body but not to much. Great for people that are new to pipe smoking.

A Nice Surprise
I decided to but this based on the Sutliff 'Find your perfect Tobacco' feature on their website. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. I prefer English blends and so fir me it is hard to go wrong with a blend that says it is. It lights and burns well and has become my favorite smoke for my daily commute. I find it most enjoyable when sipped and retro-haled. A delicious blend with a nice tang to it at a good price point. I will be picking up more of this.

Customer Testimonials
Believe it or not, this is actually a very good and tasty English blend. Sutliff was kind enough to send me a free tin of it a couple of years back and I've been enjoying the blend ever since. If you're looking for a quality English-style blend that won't break the bank, I fully recommend Sutliff's Blend No. 5.

If you're tired of aromatics that don't taste anything like they do in the tin, and you're ready to wade into the non-aromatic pool, I highly recommend this blend. Smokey, incense-like Latakia in a very mellow blend. No tongue bite even if you smoke it hard, no bitter aftertaste left on your tongue, and just a very relaxing and delicious smoke from top to bottom of the bowl. Stop smoking for everyone else's enjoyment and enjoy this terrific blend for yourself.
TF of Lake Elsinore, CA
The tin note is smoky with hints of plum and other fruit. This blend provides an easy smoke from top to bottom of the bowl. It has a mellow smokiness that is complimented by a natural sweetness and nutty nuance. It smoked cool and provided enough body to satisfy one as an all day smoke. Vitamin N is hardly noticed in this blend. A good blend by Sutliff.
