Sutliff Sweet Virginia

Sutliff Sweet Virginia is the best of both worlds. Some people prefer ribbon-cut Virginias for their ease of packing, while others like flakes that allow the user to control how quickly the tobacco burns. Sweet Virginia comes as a broken flake, so it works like a partially rubbed-out flake, but for those who like ribbons, just rub it out a bit more. The flavor is the expected combination of hay, grass and citrus, but there's also a hint of honey which may come from the casing. In any case, Virginia fans will love this blend.

Summertime treat...
I smoke CBD with my tobacco. The sweet Virginia comes out about half way through a bowl and tastes quite a bit like a cold glass of iced tea. Quite tasty.

Not a mild blend, IMO.
I'm learning to really judge for yourself... I prefer a mild aromatic, and bought this based on the reviews and the "one triangle" rating, but for me, this stuff was unacceptable. It had the texture of hay, coarse, stiff and hard to load, and had the worst room note of any blend I have ever tried. So gross it stunk up the whole house and wife had to light three candles just to get the smell defused a bit. Not sure if I will even add it to the 'unacceptable blends mix" I have or just toss it. Interestingly enough, it didn't have a bite to it, but, the smell was bad.... just bad.

The Ideal Virginia Blend
This is the ideal Virginia blend in my opinion. A variety of Virginia leaves have been heated and pressed into flake form to really bring out the natural flavors and sweetness of the tobaccos and then broken up into packable, course strips. The end result is a Virginia pipe blend that burns slower and cooler than a ribbon cut but offers the great hay and bready flavors that we as pipe smokers love in a good Virginia blend.

Best Virginia for the buck!
Smokes without re-lighting much. A nutty flavor & excellent with my 9mm filter pipe.

Perfect sweet simplicity
This is the Virginia I compare others by. I’m no expert but this stuff just seems right. Lots of hay, grass, citrus and bread is what I get ...I imagine this would age well too.

Great for blending!!
Bought this to tame down a stronger blend..Mixed 1 part of this to 2 parts of a cigar based blend.. Worked out great

Great sweetness element for blending
I love that this is broken flake as it locks in flavor and natural sweetness. I can't speak to smoking it straight but I did blend this with a red Virginia, a mature Virginia blend and Louisiana perique and it was so perfect I blended and cellared a pound of each!

Plain as can be
This is obviously just the same Virginia Sutliff uses for their many aromatics, just pressed into flake form. There's not a thing special about it and there are way better Virginia Flakes on this site ... even without McClelland around anymore there are many better than this.

Just "Ok".
Not sure what I was expecting, but I really don't care for this tobacco at all. Super-light, grassy, strong bite and very little flavor except for the sweet topping, which I don't really mind. I am a huge VA fan and this is about the most disappointing one i've ever tried - I wish I wouldn't have bought 8 ounces.Oh well, live and learn.

SUTLIFF DID IT AGAIN.
I love Sutliff tobacco and Sutliff Sweet Virginia is with no exception a great tobacco. It has no harsh tongue bite,it has a nice sweet taste and a really great room note. I also use it for a mixing tobacco or alone, works really well with other flavors and tobaccos...

Yes, Friends, There Is Virginia!
I head read about Virginia being hot, but found this to be quite cool, especially when sipped. I get a smokey incense-like, grassy aroma from this that is unlike anything I've smoked before. No added sweetness that I can detect, yet a natural sweetness comes through when smoked slowly. The cut was a bit bulky for my cob, so I broke it up and rubbed it out just a bit, to get a slightly better pack. Moisture was right on target, and it requires very few relights. Also, I've blended this with SWR-Regular and LRR, which brings down the sometimes overly sweet molasses taste of both, but adds a smokey-grassy taste that compliments both of them. Yet, it's delicious by itself, too. I'm only sorry I ordered just one oz of this, and have myself on "notify" to get more. Delightful. Give it a try, when it comes in.

Sutliff Sweet Virginia
I was looking for a tobacco that would be similar to that smoked by soldiers of the Civil war. That common during 1850's. Upon the recommendation of one of the Pipe and Cigar crew, I gave Sweet Virginia a try. It packs pretty good in the pipe and lights up on 1st or 2nd firing. The aroma smells alot like hay. It will get alittle hot and give you tongue bit if you tug on it too fast. Sit back, fire it up and think about the old days. Not a bad smoke at all.
