Sutliff Voodoo Queen

Voodoo Queen is a unique approach to the light Latakia blend. A light amount of Latakia and a hint of Perique are combined with Virginias and Burleys that have been imbued by a bit of mocha, pressed and roughly rubbed-out for a long, cool burn. For aromatic English fans and those who like chocolate flakes, Sutliff Voodoo Queen is a must-try.

voodoo queen- AKA Urban Legend
Ever hear of gurkha's urban legend? its the saaaaaame tobacco and description! I wish I knew this in the past- I have had plenty of urban legend at 12$ a tin. glad to see I can get it in bulk now at a better price. Just go ahead and order up a pound. gets even better with age.

Very good smoke
At first I was skeptical, lots of reviews say its light in Latakia. I have to admit it isn't Balken Supreme, but it still has a fair amount. The mocha hints around from time to time and makes this for a pretty interesting smoke if your care to focus on it. It burns nice and doesn't bite. I find it becoming my all day.

A Taste Like No Other
This is yet another masterpiece that I’ll gladly add to my Sutliff collection! I’m predominantly an aromatic fancier; I’ve only smoked non-aromatics for a change of pace. YET Voodoo Queen’s spice, sweetness, and slow-burn far surpasses heavily laden English blends. Prepare yourselves for a phenomenal experience. Savor every sip of Voodoo Queen’s luscious taste!

Royalty indeed.
My 1oz. bag arrived dry. The cut is inconvenient to pack-you have to rub this out. Bag aroma is spicy, deep leathery and smoke. Taste just like it smells. Strong spicy, rich and deep burley taste with a smack of belt leather. Rich and full thick smoke, not had any bite yet. Burns well (mine is too dry) room note is heavy and of tobacco and leather. I usually smoke aromatics but this was quite interesting and enjoyable. I not sure if I will get more of this but I will definitely try more English blends because of the Voodoo Queen!

A smoking treat!!
The balance of flavors are unique and satisfying. The smoke is cool and the aroma is soft and smooth like a New Orleans evening.

Good stuff
Got a 1 pound bag of this on a whim. Description sounded like it would be something I could smoke and relax with, and it is! Subtle topping, burley is nice and nutty, virginias are sweet, but the perique and latakia round it out for a great taste. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the room note can be pretty heavy. It doesn't stink at all, but its definitely heavier than I'd like for the lingering effects.

This is in my top
This is in my top 5 tobaccos right now. I'm not really an aromatic smoker but I really enjoy this stuff. Very complex.

Definitely will try to always have this in my stockpile.

Strange but good
Not my favorite. It's got a bit of an unplaceable(that's not a word) flavor. It's not bad, not great. I'll smoke the rest of the 2 ounces that I bought without complaint if that tells you anything. But I probably won't buy it again.

interesting blend
A pretty interesting blend. Oriental forward with a little more perique than i care for but still a good smoke. The blend was more on the dry side upon arrival so i jarred it immediately. Burned fairly cool to a nice ash. smoked in missouri meerschaum corn cob pipe.

Excellent Tobacco !
This is a very interesting blend. I bought some and the first few bowls bi the tongue. I knew it tasted good, but was harsh. I cellared most and kept about 6 oz. in a pipe tobacco humidor for use. 3 months later I tried another bowl and it was less of a tongue bite and more flavorful. I then mixed 70% voodoo, 20% Latkia, and 10% perquie. WOW - Now its flavorful, mellow and one of the best English blend flavors I have. order 2 more pounds to cellar for a year so I can place in my rotation.

Voodoo queen
This is my second round with his English because it was so low on the sale price I had to get some more. They were out of what I wished for which was 10 to midnight cake. Anyway it is a medium study English that one can enjoy just about anytime of day.

A smoke from the Gods
Whaat a wonderful tobacco. Robust yet pleasant. Just enough pepper and smokey taste to let you know you are smoking something real. I can just envision the old pirates having a bowl of this going. It’s became my “I treat myself smoke”. Keep up the great work P&C. You are salvation for all pipe enthusiasts out there. HarpmanJT30

Amazing English smoke
I was a little stand off-ish at first but took the risk and i have to say... the best english by far for room note and taste. Sweet, smoky and a touch of spice faint but noticable. A smoke that wont drive away friends at an outdoor party.

Sutliff VooDoo Queen
Take the time to hand rub to break the long strip cut and you will find a new adventure in every bowl. Full flavor but not overpowering.

Great tasting, great mechanics, very happy with this purchase.

I’m usually an aromatic guy...
But Voodoo Queen is a pleasant change up. Just enough Latakia for a nice variation. Only problem, my wife heads for the hills

Unusual from the top down...
Got some strength, sweetness, smokiness. No issues with packing, ighting or keeping it going. A little bitey from the burley I guess and nicely spicy from the perique. Subtle sweetness about midway down the bowl. Never hot and or excessively moist. Sort of reminds me of a cup of really good strong black coffee or maybe strong coffee with a touch of sugar. Strong with restraint...good thick long lasting smoke if sipped. Invites you back for a second date with a mysterious lady. Might be fun, certainly interesting, definitely pleasurable.

Voodoo Queen
This is is a good blend, I really dig it, but it does benefit greatly from having the right pipe to bring out the flavors. Spicy, smokey and full of peppery flavor, but different pipes certainly single out the more subtle notes in this blend for sure. I first tried it in a new-ish MM Diplomat cob, and had mixed feelings. My second bowl was rubbed out a bit finer and smoked from an old Grabow Savoy which I use primarily for English blends and it was fantastic. I still seem to be missing out on the mocha, but that's probably just my taste buds refusing to cooperate. Stuffing the bottom of the bowl with the tobacco as is and then filling the rest with some that's been rubbed out a bit more is my personal preference with this blend. Anyhow, I'll certainly buy more to keep on hand for when I'm feeling adventurous, and that adjective seems to describe the Voodoo Queen blend in a nutshell. It's definitely a treat...a nice, cool burning smoke with lots of mojo.

Another good Sutliff blend

Find the right pipe...
To me, this is is a good blend, but needs the right pipe. Spicy, smokey and full of peppery flavor, but different pipes definitely seem to single out the more subtle in this one for sure. It's like pairing wine with dinner on this one, but well worth it when you find that personal satisfactory combo.

One of my favorites
Is it the latakia at the beginning or the perique that comes on latter but subtle? I don't know but I love this stuff. Just bought my second pound!

Well done!
I feel this is one of Sutliff’s better blends. I don’t really know what to compare it to, but I really enjoy the burley, latikia, and perique. I haven’t smoked the Frog Morton blends, but the perique is powerful here even though the latikia also plays a major role. I don’t use this as a daily, but consider it a treat.

Love the perique in this mix
A gentleman in Toledo gave me a sample of this and I fell under the spell with the very first bowl. I enjoy two or three bowls a day of this flavorful baccy

Voodoo Queen
This blend is exactly what i'm looking for in an evening smoke. Cool, calming and a wonderfully full flavor.

Good tobacco
This was decent enough. Though I detected no Latakia at all. But it was good enough I did like the strength and all the other flavors. Might order more.

All hail the queen
Excellent, taste good and spicey, slow burning, I was looking for something different than the burley blends that I'm used to. I wanted something so strong it would peel the varnish off a foot locker and that is exactly what I got I could not be any happier

A perfect fit
In my favorites rotation. Excellent with a morning dark espresso or late evening amaretto. Fits that begin the day-end the day niche perfectly.

Very mysterious....
Voodoo Queen was a pleasant surprise that, frankly, is perfectly named. Try some and enjoy the magic....

First of all, this blend is an english blend by all means so do not let the description lead you to think its a cross over to aromatic. I found no hints off coffee in the pouch note, tatste or room note. Now its has good quality leaf and rounded taste, but the cut is rough and it needs some attention when packed. I found it behave better in wider bowls. Not bad for an english blend at all but its not an all day smoke for me. Try it if you like heavy robust blends with good kick to it.

A delicious, peppery blend.
Very glad I decided to buy this! Bought 2oz and was pleasantly surprised that it filled a Ball jar 2/3s of the way full! Must be the cut. The cut is very nice, and I like to go over it one more time before I load my pipe, sorta rub out the ready-rubbed style cut into more like a ribbon cut, easier to load that way. Burns slowly without biting and sometimes causes a gurgle, but nothing a pipe cleaner won't fix. The Virginias are more on the darker, hay-ish side of the spectrum, while the perfect amount of perique adds a beautiful peppery note that keeps you wondering what's next. Also worth mentioning, Voodoo Queen is really the perfect name for this blend; mysterious yet intriguing! If you like VaPer blends, please give this one a try. It's distinctly different and is sure to knock your socks off!

Thank heavens for master blenders
My purchase of Sutliff Voodoo Queen was the result of a conversation with Russ, the Master Blender at I had been smoking a local mix that was no longer available and had tried a number of blends from P&C but none was quite what I wanted. I told Russ of my troubles and trials and he said, "Try this...." It's exactly what I wanted. The brights, the burleys, the bit of oriental and latakia make an excellent all day blend. My wive doesn't love the note as much as she did my old blend but likes it enough for peaceful coexistence and I like the flavor and burn better.

voodoo queen
Fast delivery, top notch. Opened the package and was overwhelmed by how strong and smoky it seemed. My wife loved the smell. Smoked very well, no bite. I can't smoke it all the time, but its nice to have around when I want to sit on the deck with a dark beer. I like it.

Voodoo Juju
This is one of my favorite blends. The aptly named Voodoo Queen is nothing short of a mystical experience. Its deep, dark, rich, and completely out of this world. There is something inexplicable about this blend that lends itself to the meditative, trance like state of being under a spell. Its quite good if you like these types of mixtures, I highly recommend it.

Good stuff!
After ordering some name-brand tobacco a couple of years ago, I was rather disappointed with the flavor. In my mind, there was nothing like a good local blend from a trusted tobacconist (Rich's Tobacco of Portland, OR, in case you were wondering). Perhaps there really isn't, but since I don't live anywhere near a good tobacconist any more, Voodoo Queen has been a pleasant surprise. It's a good, mild tobacco that doesn't take too long to tame for your palate or your smoking process, but packs a nice, complex flavor. The underlying hint of chocolate sweetens it up a little without overwhelming any of the actual leaves' flavors or crossing into the flavored tobacco domains. I've also found, upon indulging myself after a smoke, that actual chocolate tastes mind-blowingly good after a bowl of Voodoo Queen. You'll have to pull the stuff apart a bit to pack your pipe right, though, because it is a rather long cut. Even so, I really can't complain; it didn't take long at all to get my packing process down, and it's been a thoroughly satisfying smoke now that I have.

Love this blend
I bought this looking for a virginia/perique blend to try. Smelled great upon opening pouch. The mocha was a bonus to me, and gets compliments on room note.

I was pulled in by the name but kept by the flavor
A lot of people are real connoisseurs of tobacco. I only know what I like and I love the taste of Sutliff voodoo queen!

quality smoke
This was my first blend in the Sutliff line. The physical properties of the blend consist of mostly small cube cut latakia, perique and burley with long strands of Virginia being the oddball. This makes for the need to break down the va to pack and help burn more consistently but that it does. Nice cool smoke. Lighter la blend as the va stands most prominently. You will get hints of the mocha here and there and thankfully its not a sweet and overly cased flavor. Im a relative newbie to the pipe and this is my first review, so, take it for what its worth!

Sutliff Voodoo Queen
Great peppery, plum flavor from the perique and enough smooth, smokey latakia to make this blend quite delicious. The virginias and burleys give the blend a full, rounded taste. I'll be buying more of this blend in the future for sure.
Customer Testimonials
Quite enjoyable. Nice latakia blend first and foremost. Not a lot of mocha taste, but is there in the room note and tin. Smokey rich & dark, but not complicated. I have no tounge bite from this blend. A unique cut, has some pressed Virginia and almost a loose twist like latakia. Glad I tried it and will get another ounce or two next order.
LR of Warrenville, IL
I enjoyed Voodoo Queen a couple years back and smoked some of my reserve today for the first time in over a year. For the life of me I can't remember why I stopped smoking this great blend because it was as good today if not better than I remember. The Latakia is smooth as velvet and the Perique tickles the back of my nose. This is a great tobacco and mild on the English blend side. It's moderately strong and the room note is pleasant.
RS of Austin, TX
One of my favorites, I find I'm a loyal subject of the Queen and keep returning to her court for that kick of Latakia. The broken flake packs well and burns for a long time without needing much tending but beware of that Latakia ghosting your pipe. Did I mention its got quite a bit of Latakia in it, not for the faint of heart.
MS of Akron, OH
Fantastic all day smoker. Spiciest of perique is balanced by smokey Latakia and Virginia sweetness. Complex and satisfying
RH of pembroke pines, FL
Voodoo Queen is an excellent outdoor cold weather blend, that steps onto the dark side of both of the perique and the latakia, giving a strong balance of tang and camp fire. I really don't recommend smoking this indoors, unless you hate the people in which you share the house or you are preparing the dwelling for demolition. Good stuff.
