Pipes and Cigars should add to the Original and Bourbon Whiskey the big can. The Black Cavendish in 7.5 oz would be great.....

I'm always on the lookout for a good Cavendish selection. I don't think I've tried this before. But I been doing this a long time so perhaps, maybe? However, I bought this recently in an order, and gave it a try last evening. Oh my gosh, it was so good; and filled with the mellowest and smoothest flavors and, to me, better than most Cavendish products I've enjoyed to date. The whole process was, I want to say, cool! And I don't mean cool as in; "hey man, this stuff is really cool", you know, like way back in the 60s?? And i was born in 1950 and that makes me oaf, but I'm not so old that I can't appreciate a very very good Cavendish smoke. And this one from Borkum Riff, surprised the heck out of me. It's good, really good.

The best Capt Black except for one problem - it doesn't come in cans.

I bought this to compare to Lane-Q Black Cav. Although I still prefer Lane-Q Black Cav., the Capt Dark will do in a pinch. I noticed that aroma was less pronounced than Lane-Q's sweetness but I think that depends on preference. Both were very smooth long lasting smokes.

One of the big hits in the great lines of Captain Black tobaccos. I like the smell when burnt or not burned (even better) and tha fact that burns cool

Exactly what I was looking for in a pipe Tobacco without having to mix. Very, very well, balanced, smooth smoking, and a pleasant taste. This is my new go to for tobacco. Exceptionally pleased.

Very nice smoke. Love the smell of the pouch! Has a wine like smell to it and is very smooth taste. Does gurgle if you smoke too fast. Mixes well with cherry tobacco.

I enjoy Borkum Riff Black Cavendish pipe tobacco very much, a wonderful flavor.

I am very new to pipe smoking and am enjoying the journey immensely so far. I've been smoking semi-regularly for about two weeks and my good friend, an experienced piper, has been helping me learn how to pack, light and smoke. He's a big fan of Captain Black so I bought him some of the cherry blend to thank him for his guidance. I enjoyed that immensely and was very interested to try other Captain Black blends. I stopped by the local tobacconist tonight and they had the Dark blend for a good price and I just had my first bowl in my Whitluck's. I love it! The aroma is pure spiced rum and the taste is mild, smooth, sweet with a faint vanilla spice. Delicious! It smokes easy and cool and I didn't have to relight it at all, a big achievement for a newbie like me! I will definitely be getting some more of this and next I'll try the Captain Black Royal.

I am trying different tobacco and blends and decided to try the Captain Black brand. I must say, I am REALLY pleased with the Captain Black Dark. OMG! I'm sure I'll keep exploring but... this one is a definite keeper!

First of all, this is not an all-black cavendish, like CB Dark or Lane BCA. It's a mixture of Virginia and about 50% black cavendish (as the package says, but more like 35-40%). Having said that, wonderful aroma off the pouch, mellow, no bite, an all-day smoke. Another plus, not much humectants/chemical coatings here, and just right moisture level, as pretty much all BR tobaccos. Can mix it with harsh too moist/too dry tobacco to mellow it out.

Love the aroma, taste

This is the best tobacco I have smoked. I was a pipe smoker for many years and quit. After a long time span I started smoking a pipe again, to find out that my favorite tobaccos were no longer available. With the help of P&C and trying many different blends and brands, I tried Captain Black dark, which is the only tobacco that I smoke. It has a great taste,no bite,extremely mild and has a great room note.

I was going to give this 3 stars, but the farther down the bowl I got the more flavor came through. Smooth, pretty much single note flavor. As others have noted it seemed to require excesive relights, but not enough to be a detriment to enjoying a good smoke. I'll let it dry out a bit before the next bowl.

I've been a menthol cigatcrette smoker for 54 yrs. now. My wife said all your clothes stink like cigarettes. I decided to try pipe smoking, did'nt think I would enjoy smoking without inhaling, but actually really enjoy it and quite satisfying. My wife really likes the aromatic smell of Captain Black Dark. This tobacco is very very mild and sweet, it burns well and not a bite in a bowl. My wife loves the smell of it and the flavor is very nice. I would buy it by the can if I could.

A subtle yet rich vanilla blend. It’s not as sweet as og captain black but it is very nice. It’s a tasty blend that smells and smokes good. It’s not over the top in its sweetness which makes it so pleasant.

The smoke is pleasant and the blend is decent. I prefer captain black due to it tasting more rich to me in its flavors.

Aroma

This is not like American Black Cavendish. The taste is less sweet, but just as smooth. It is earthier and the aroma is more like simple tobacco. There are flavorings, but they applied lightly. This is my absolute favorite of the Borkum Riff blends. I find the others to be a bit too light.

As a lover of dark blends this one is my every day "go to". A no nonsense tobacco with a hearty flavor that is sure to bring a smile.

I love having BRBlack Cavendish among the tobaccos in my rotation. Relative to the other varieties I've tried so far, it's bold but not overpowering.

To me it's the same as 1q minus the sour grape that 1q/royal has that annoys me no end. Only half of the raisin taste.

Im a newbie and I've only tried a few things so far. This is the best smoke I've had up til now. The only thing i've had that was better was a blend i bought at the tobacco store. Its well worth the money. Thats the good stuff.

I taste the flavor of the tobacco subtly after the prune and plum which, has mixed well balanced between the cavendish and, a light colored tobacco. I find the consistent burning also, steady flavor throughout a bowl burn time has, a satisfying, cool pleasure that, suit me well.

Exactly what I expected of Danish tobacco

I didn't realize I enjoyed black cavendish so much. Now I know. While I enjoyed both, very much, Captain was a clear winner for me. I preferred some of the sweeter elements that's usually always present in CB products.

I love Captain Black Original, but this stuff... This is exactly what I was looking for. I’m a cavendish family for sure, and this hits the the spot. An amazing room note with vanilla, raisins, and a little bit of spice as it burns down the bowl. This is my new favorite daily smoke.

This has become my favorite blend. Rich and delicious, the vanilla and raisin flavor are blended well. No bite either.

Love this blend, as with all Captain Blacks I've tried so far. It reminds me of BCA somewhat--very smooth, tantalizingly aromatic and easy on the palate.

My go to tobacco, mild cool smoking and mellow. I use other black cavindish for mixing, but keep Captain Black Dark for my quiet time

A wonderful addition if one mixes it with other cavendish brands. In my case, with Captain Black Gold. I really like the taste of pure tobacco without additives as whiskey, different fruits and so on. That's why 32 years ago I found out that Borkum Riff Black Cavendish corresponds to my needs. Dr. V. I love this stuff! I like to dry it for an hour or so. I find it helps with keeping it lit. I am a big fan of Cavendish tobacco, and the darker the better. a mild, and cool smoke with subtle notes of vanilla, raisins, and sweet cream. I often mix this with other tobacco blends... a small pinch in C&D haunted bookshop was a nice addition!

So far, this is my favorite Black Cav. Never any tongue bite. Great, smooth flavor with a good sweetness to it. It gives off a nice thick blueish smoke, but doesn't ash up your bowl too much. Consistent burn when packed right. Great aroma that hangs around in my beard all day, which is a nice bonus. If you like sweet & mild smokes, this is definitely one of the best ways to go. I'll let you know if/when I find better...

A smooth blend, all-day smoke. Stands out among the Borkum Riff selections.

Nice simple dark cavendish aromatic. Pros: tasty, sweet, burns well, priced right, good in a corncob. Cons: pretty one-dimensional / uncomplex.

Rich aroma, wife likes it. Very smooth, no bite; if anything,too light. Royal is a little stronger and slightly more complex aroma, not just straight vanilla. Both are 5-star, prefer Royal.

The Captain Black Dark Tobacco has a wonderful aroma when burning. I experienced no bite or aftertaste. It provides voluminous amounts of billowy clouds of smoke. Not overly wet in its case. It could become one of my favorite pipe tobaccos. I really enjoyed smoking this tobacco.

The soft warm vanilla is complimented by dark coffee flavors. What a great smoke.

Ok so I bought some Squadron Leader because I wanted to branch out into English blends (plus the tin is cool). Well, to me, it smells like the South end of a northbound mule and tastes even worse. Too cigarette like. I hate to waste tobacco so I thought I'd mix in some black Cavendish to sweeten it up. I chose the Captain Black Dark for the experiment and tried a bowl before mixing. Wow, what great tobacco. Plumes of billowy , white, cool, tasty, fragrant smoke. Burned down to light ash with only one tamp and re-light. I tugged away at it almost trying for tongue bite but it wouldn't. So smooth. No way will I mix it with the horse poop. It's just too good on it's own. The Squadron Leader will just have to wait in the cellar. Who knows, maybe it will improve with age. Or maybe my palette will evolve to appreciate the fine English blends like Squadron Leader.

Basically BCA but not as wet... burns very well. I usually have left over tobacco in bowl when done smoking. CB burns to the bottom even. I recom to beginners cause it’s easy to pack. No bite and burns great and cool

I remember the time in early 90s when suddenly my favorite Borkum Riff Black Cavendish disappeared at all. I was in despair and with great difficulties found a pair of packs in Prague (existed at that time such a country as Czechoslovakia). Thank God, finally it reappeared again. For me it's important as an additive to the Captain Black Gold, and for smoking it separately is too strong. Among other Borkum Riffs it's the only one made by "Cavendish cut" which I consider to be the most pleasant for smoking. I wish this product will return to it's first primary look as it came to the market: Black was in a black nice pouch and recognizable at once!

This tabacco has a very good aroma and is extremely smooth. I have had other tabacco that gave me tongue bite and I did not like it. I really enjoy captain black dark.

I've tried all the different varieties of Captain Black and my favorite has to be the DARK. For me it's a smooth smoking all around any time of day tobacco. I will be ordering more very soon.

Very smooth and tasty -- one of my favorites now.

This is my first smoke of this tobacco and in my opinion it is simply superb. Its taste is just right for my palate and my nose likes it even more. It burns well but slowly - obviously your conditions may vary from mine there's no way to quantify burn rate - and with the same caveat, it doesn't burn the tongue. Its an ideal 'sipping' smoke, for taking time to enjoy it in a relaxed atmosphere such as reading a book, LOTR is my favourite pipe smokers read for obvious reasons! One might almost describe this as a voluptuous smoke, it has depth, richness and evokes fond memories.

I have yet to try the Dark, but with this amazing offer, I will be!

Novice smoker. I have tried many different blends; but Captain Black dark is working very well for me. This is the first aromatic that I have been able to detect the Suttle flavors in. Smooth, flavorful with no tounge bite, and no chemical flavors that I have found in Lane 1q and other aromatics. I will get more.

Not really a true cavendish. Not really black. Looks like some Virginia, something brown, no black! Not that it's bad, but it smokes a bit harsh. Closer to smokers pride than, say, Lane Ltd BCA. Worth a try but I wouldn't buy it bulk!

captain black dark tastes soo good and vanilla-ee, im new to pipe smoking, and of captain black tobaccos, ive now only tried royal and dark and they’re both delicious. I feel like otc brands get a bad wrap because they’re mainstream, but if you think about it, at the end of the day, it’s tobacco, its made in the same process as house blends from tobacco shops, its just otc. To me, idk... it tastes delicious. I love aromatics, and captain black defines a smooth, easy to smoke, great smelling, aromatic

A perfect fall blend that would go well with hot apple cider. As you sip your pipe, the tastes of cinnamon and prune come through. It reminds me of the traditional Christmas puddings served in Ireland.

This tobacco is very "one note." I get the sweetness right away and the room note is very pleasant, but that's it. Not a bad tobacco though, I can see how it could be good for mixing into other blends as a sweetener. It would also be a good starter tobacco for those who are new to the hobby.

This tobacco has been a favorite for a long time......by itself, or as a blend mix. My favorite blend is mixing it with Sir Walter Raliegh Aromatic....pleasant to the taste, very little bite, and non-smokers often comment on how pleasing the aroma of the smoke ls to them........try it..........

I have tried over 20 different types of tobacco in my pipes. Hated this mixture, Better off smoking something else, anything but this. Save your money and buy something better like Lane BCA if you like Black Cavendish.

Oh man, where do I start!? This is by far the sweetest tasting CB variety I have ever tried. Flavors of cinnamon, apple, pecan and clove always come to mind. It's an ideal choice for after dinner. I have one pipe dedicated strictly to this tobacco. First time pipe smokers might find this to be an ideal choice to start their palettes.

Got this for my son and he lives in Ireland and is used to many Petersen's blends. He loved it and was very pleased with this gift!

The Borkum Riff Black Cavendish has an odor of a chocolate liquor. fresh out of he pouch. The flavor tasted like chocolate but natural. On the other hand, the Captain Black Dark had a straight chocolate flavor with a forced chemical chocolate flavor. I did not care for the Captain Black Dark. The Borkum Riff Black Cavendish was the winner here.

I prefer the Amphora as it has a better flavor. Borkum is too dry and burns hotter and faster.

Another one that many people seem to really love but I thought was disgusting. Yuck! (I didn't care for Royal either, so make of that what you will.) My favorite CB is Copper thus far. That said, it packs well and burns evenly without much need for relighting.

I'll preface this by saying that I just returned to pipe smoking after a twenty-five or so year hiatus, and before only smoked Sir Walter, because it was about the only thing you could get in rural Mississippi back then. I found the Captain Black Dark to be much, much more satisfying to my taste. I have been pretty much buying small quantities of a number of blends over the last couple of months and will continue to try as many different ones as I can, but for right now this one, along with Captain Black original and Stanwell Vanilla are my top three.

Captain Black Dark beats Borkum Riff Black Cavendish rather soundly. Cap Black was pleasant with no bite and good taste. Might be a tad moist out of the pouch, I had to do a little more than normal re-lighting, but of the two in "The Black Knight" duel, Captain Black wins, hands down.

Not sure what went wrong as my opinion of this does not agree with many others: I found Borkum Riff BC to have a lot of tongue bite, seemed to burn pretty hot if you keep puffing, but would not burn well at all if you take your time with it. I bought this as part of "The Black Knight" duel, and found the Captain Black Dark to be way better than the Borkum Riff.

I really enjoy Borkum blends, they always deliver a satisfying smoke for me and I'm able to get the base tobacco taste despite the flavoring. This one was no exception. I did notice that the pouch made no mention of Dark Fired Kentucky and the label looks slightly different. Wonder if its been tweaked. Tho I still prefer the Whiskey blend the most, the Black Cavendish was similar enough to hit the spot. It tended to burn hot and was definitely better the more it dried. I suggest leaving the opened pouch sitting around for a week or two for maximum results. The taste varied between raisin/plum to dry red wine. A sipping smoke that did not burn me but I am used to Borkum and have learned how to draw it without bite. I recommend trying it and would not discount this blend just because it comes in a pouch. Better than a lot of tinned tobaccos I've tried.

This was a blend I thought I would enjoy, and I did, until something went off the rails. I liked the cut, the aroma in the pouch was very nice, it smoked cool and produced nice thick smoke. Everything was fine until about half way through the bowl. The nice nutty plummy flavor suddenly turned to a harsh chemical taste. It was sharp and kinda sour and stung my nose. It wasn't burning hot and there was no bite but the pleasant rather mellow flavor became harsh and acrid. I thought that maybe it was a reaction with my personal chemistry but my wife asked me if I was still smoking the same stuff I had been because now it really stinks. So it wasn't me. It was the tobacco. I was getting a thumbs up for aroma and it suddenly went wrong. I tried it again the next day in a different pipe with the same result. It's a shame too because from the first light to about the halfway point I thought it was enjoyable.

Harsh! CB Dark is amazingly good, but BR BC is pretty rough. I like to let the smoke linger in my nostrils and sinuses to get a great sense of the flavor and aroma, but this one just won't let me. It burns well, but there are other tobaccos to try before going back to it.

It's hard for me to pick a single Captain Black blend as a favorite, but right now CB Dark is at the top of the list. If you already like Captain Black blends and have not tried this, then you owe it to yourself to give this a try!!!

First time I tried this i fell in love with captain black. This is tied with my favorite smoke and is threatening to become my #1. At times I haven't even lit this properly and it's burnt practically to the bottom without a hitch, maybe one relight. I just can not say enough about this now I'm fixing to try royal and the black knight challange, can't wait to see how that goes

Good but not great. Drugstore brand widely available. Lane 1q is better but costs more. Try Capt Black or super value black cavendish. Nobody has matched Flying Dutchman. Nobody.

In my opinion Captain Black Dark beats Borkum Riff Dark Cavendish. Equal in a lot of ways, but the Borkum seemed to burn a bit hot for some reason.

A long time Captain Black fan, this was my first time trying Dark and I’m glad I did.

Mild enough with excellent flavor- a good all-dayer, a fine outside tabak. Dependable, not as rich as I'd hoped, but you won't be disappointed if you're a Cavendish man.

My first Captain Black. For some reason, I didn't think I'd like this, but I was wrong. Mellow, sweet flavor, almost like cherry but not quite. Very pleasant room note, which is easy to disperse. Relaxing, and probably pairs well with whiskey. Because of this, I will probably try other Captain Black blends.

A great smooth and rich smoke! This is my go to for after dinner and while sipping a fine bourbon.

Many years ago I almost gave up smoking my pipe until I found Captain black Gold. I've been with Captain Black Gold up until recently. New to Pipes and Cigars, which is an awesome site. I decided to try original and Royal and now Captain Black Dark, which is awesome smoke also. Good room note and bite free. I also tried mixing it with other Captain Blacks. Awesome all around. The first 100% black cavendish that I have tried. It's very pleasant, not harsh at all, smells wonderful. It's the cavendish flavor component of Regular Captain Black only more of it.

Captain Black Dark is my go to tobacco, due to the good taste it has, and the wonderful smell that people around compliment on. IMO the pouch is just better than bulk!

I've smoked Borkum Riff for years. I've been happy with the Black Cavendish.

If you like Black Cavendish you will love this one. My only knock on it is you can get other black Cavendish blends that are just as good for a little less. But if your at your local tobacco shop and you come across a pouch of this I would recommend that you give it a try.

Pleasant, rich smoke, if a tad hotter than expected. Nicely aromatic. Really quickly shipped too!

All one tastes is a perfumed, artificial smoke.

A very mild tobacco with a hint of vanilla. There was no bite and burned to bottom of the bowl without a relight!

First Captain Black Blend that I have tried other than the original. While there is nothing wrong with it, I just did got get much from it. Still prefer the Original. May or may not try some of the others, but will not order this again.

Honestly I need to sample a few more oz.'s to give a fair feedback. Unfortunately a cold disrupted my olfactory senses to truly distinguish and fully enjoy it's taste and aroma. If you like black cavendish, you have to try this!! It is truly a GREAT product! I used to smoke regular Captain Black, but this is my new every day smoke. Great taste and aroma.

This is by far the best Black Cavendish out there. Price is an added bonus! There are not enough O's in "smooth" to descibe how nicely this smokes. In my personal opinion this makes 1Q look overrated. The total package. Tastes great. Burns cool. If you're new to the scene and looking for a great not good Black Cavendish? Look no further. Friends, ther4e is no need to purchase or consider any other Black Cavendish pipe tobacco! Scandinavian Tobacco Group has finally provided us all with the Holy Grail of Black Cavendish pipe tobacco.

They were pretty dry. I mixed them with vanilla cavendish to compensate for the dryness. Other than that: they were good but not great.

I recently purchased this Black Cavendish for my tobacco rotation, and I have,to say that I love the smooth sweet flavor. This one is a keeper!

I am new to tobacco. I have tried and enjoyed English blends and am now branching out into aromatics. This stuff is nice. Smells like candy. Pretty wet. Let it dry. Smoke it very slowly. Just get a good light in the center of your bowl and it will treat you well. It is as the name and reviews suggest. Rich, sweet, molasses... Lingers pleasantly.

Hello, I have been smoking pipe Captain Black white pack for many years and I must say that I am very pleased with Captain Black Dark. It is perhaps one of the coolest, No bite tobaccos I have yet to try. Very pleasing!!
