Hints of Blueberry
Not what I expected, ended up tasting and smelling of blueberries, a surprisingly light smoke, takes the edge off of a hot southern evening. Not my normal smoke, but I appreciated the difference

A very fine Latakia blend
A very fine Latakia blend artfully enriched by other tobaccos. Not too sweet, not harsh upon the throat. Rather, it is rich, meaty, smoky flavor having a depth of interest that is subtle and hard to define and is quite mild and balanced.

Perfect for book reading on cold nights.
Smooth and flavorful when smoked slowly. I found the subtle variations of flavor quite pleasant and relaxing. Definitely will be keeping this in the go to inventory for further enjoyment.

The blend was light with
The blend was light with the latakia, in my opinion. The heat was about average but the smoky flavor just wasn't there in the amount I prefer.

Out of all the Captain
Out of all the Captain Earles blends that I've tried, Nightwatch is one of two that I frequently find myself lighting up. It's a nice medium to full bodied English blend with plenty of smokey Latakia flavor. Its fairly slow burning and an all around enjoyable smoke. Despite it's name, I enjoy this one early in the morning with cup of good, dark roast coffee.

Definitely worth a shot
This was a recommendation from a friend. This has now become a staple in my rotation. Very smooth with no bite. Many different flavors appear with this blend and taste good to the palate. Lights easy, Burns well with nice billows of smoke. Room note is not that of an aromatic. But it is very tolerable and reminiscent of an older style blend.

Let it age.
Allow this to age 3 or more years and you will be rewarded with an intense sweetness. Absolutely always brings a smile on my face after I open a can of this after waiting so long.

This is a nice slow
This is a nice slow burning blend. Slightly oriental forward with a hint of Perique. Crumbles easy and smokes very clean.

Very tasty
I love this blend. The latakia is present, but not overly forward. The virginias are sweet and mellow, and the rum really adds a nice touch. It is very balanced. It reminds me of MacBaren Plumcake, minus the tounge bite. This blend smokes cool and leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Also, I smoked it straight out of the tin and it required no drying time. Easy to rub out and prepare. Required few relights, and burned to a fine ash.

Fantastic.
Deep, dark, and packed with smoky Latakia goodness. It’s a recent favorite of mine. Don’t be fooled by the ho-hum ton note, it’s a gorgeous smoke. I’ll stand the night watch any time.

Cornell & Diehl Black Frigate
It's good. I wish it had a little more umph to it. I like the note of liquor, but it doesn't take away from the flavor of the tobacco like a heavily cased aromatic. It's an enjoyable smoke.

Geez I love C&D!
Another winner from C&D. I was a little concerned about the Cavendish. I like a Navy style that'll smack you around a bit but this is a for sure good one. A hint of sweet but with enough assertiveness to leave is smoke able. Think a grassy Virginia. A touch of rum. Lots of smoke. Slightly dry but easy to rub out even for a crumble. This puts me in mind of a port. Being in port and sipping a glass of.

Smoke up me' hardys
Wonderfully pungent smoke with strong earthy notes and a salty/sweet finish. The rum topping is subtle and the perfect addition to this nautical blend. Cornell & Diehl never cease to transport you to another place and time with their top-notch products. For the price, I wouldn't look further. Happy smoking!

very good, not overly sweet just a subtle taste of rum, would recommend.

As close to perfect as I have found.
For my taste this one has it all. Just a touch of sweet without being overdone. smokey latakia that does not overpower the other flavors. Bright high notes from the turkish. Burns well to a fine white ash from top to bottom. not a bit of tongue bite. The room note reminds me of a smokey soft coco aroma. this would be my desert island smoke without a doubt. Please start stocking in the 8oz tins.

Trying a new tobacco
I gave the black frigate a try because the night watch was back ordered and was pleasurably surprised with the notes when I opened the tin and the first bowl I am thinking it will be one of my go to tobaccos

Trying but just not getting it
I really want to like this blend because it smells wonderful. But I don't get much taste out of it and it seems to numb my tongue for some reason.

First bowl and now I'm hooked
A buddy of mine recently recommended for me to try this blend and I must say I am very satisfied with it. When I first opened the tin I was a bit worried I wouldn't like it but once it was lit and after a few puffs now I am hooked. Already smoked 3 bowls and just received it today!

C&D Black Frigate
Bought this based on reviews I had read. Was searching for a "english-style aromatic". I love this tobacco. Super strong run tin note, which stuck with the first 1/4 of the bowl. Then the rum mellows out and for me, turns to a sort of fruity, and almost licorice flavor. Still rum, but not as loud as the initial smell. If you puff hard and fast, it gets spicy, but when sipped on, it keeps that nice flavor. Further down the bowl towards the middle, I hit that perfect balance between the rum and the latakia. Such a fun tobacco to smoke and explore. I'll buy more of this when it runs low, no questions about it.

Jolly Roger
I'm on board with it. BlackFrigate is a crumble cake rather than a flake like most Navy's and the Latakia, Turkish and Cavendish make it complex beyond what I've ever tasted. It is my favorite Navy by far .

It is a frigate
I wasn't sure what to expect being that I love Latakia but am overcautious about overpowering toppings of any sort. However -- wow! I keep returning to this tin daily, although it is a show stopper for me -- last bowl of the day kind of smoke. Once you smoke this, nothing else can follow it for the rest of the day. So much complexity -- leather, booze, chocolate, spice. Your mouth keeps smacking throughout, the way you do throughout a satisfying rich dessert (though there is nothing gooey going on here, smooth balance is impeccable -- Latakia is front and center, no question about it). I found that I get the most out of it in shallower wider bowls. Very much of the Plumcake-unique narrative but with prominent and better handled booze and way more going on. A frigate, indeed.

All aboard the Black Frigate
Black Frigate is in the top 5 of my favorite tobaccos. It is delicious. The sweetness of the rum and the black cavendish married with the leathery smokiness of the latakia, all pressed together into an extermely tasty crumble cake. I cut a chunk off, rub it out and let it dry for about a half hour and load it into a good smoking pipe. If you like rum blends and latakia, you won't be disappointed.

Give it a chance
At First when I purchased this blend, I was blown back by the strong rum smell from tin opening. After a few bowls i wasn't sure if I liked it or not. It sat on my shelf for a few months until i gave it another try a few days back and have really enjoyed it since. smooth taste through entire smoke, I encourage anyone on the fence about it to get it.

Take a Ride on the Black Frigate
I've read a lot of different reviewers who don't care for the combination of Rum and Latakia in this blend. Personally I think it's fantastic! The sweetness of the rum tones down the Latakia just enough that it makes this a smooth smoke without the sometimes sharp effects of the Latakia. You still get all the benefits, earthy, smokey, peaty flavor but with a mild texture about it. Of course it's excellent quality which isn't any surprise from C&D. It's a great smoke with lots going on and makes an excellent all day smoke for English blend fans.

Capt. Earles Nightwatch
I'm still a bit of a newbie and have tried primarily aromatic blends but the more I smoke the English blends, the more I like them. This has a wonderful taste with no tongue bite. I slice it quite thin and crumble it up. Smokes nicely and stays lit. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

An uncouth smoke, with deep pungent dark chocolatey flavor. A fine rostrum for getting rid of one's problem with.
