War Horse Green Sale

War Horse Green uses the same base tobaccos as War Horse Bar, but with a unique and decidedly more aromatic top note than the original. There are notes here similar to a number of European tobaccos, but made here in the US. Give this singular take on Euro-style blends a try. We think you'll be back time and again for War Horse Green.

My Favorite
Rich Flavor and Great Smoke Output!

Peppery Candy Nice
This is good. Taste like black pepper and liquorish. Smells like a hint of playdough or sack of black Twizzlers. Minus the peppery taste all the other components are in the smoke, tin , and room note. I prefer the taste of Mix. 79. But, this one burns better.

For me it's one of a very few aromatics I can enjoy.

Nice and Smooth
This tobacco really grows on you. You don't need a lot or to really pack your pipe. And the aroma is strong, but smooth and aromatic as well.

Great flavor and tin note!
Great flavor and tin note! I find it a sweet smoke, not what you'd expect from a name like War Horse. I didn't find the nic hit overly strong at all.. perhaps the low side of high. A must try just for the taste, and the room note is pleasant also. Recommended.

Outstanding American Lakeland....
This was absolutely outstanding in my opinion. A very restrained but obvious Lakeland approach to this tobacco. The tobacco taste is front and center with the essence playing and enhancement role. Burns consistently and to a light gray ash. Highly recommended. This one is a ghoster--be warned.

Great smoke!
Great smoke, but burns a little hot compared to the red tin.

Great Tobacco!
I love this tobacco; I'm definitely going to buy it again. Lots of notes of anise, and a hint of cherry on the retro hale.

Good
I bought this to give it a try. I may be one of the few people that loves black licorice and thought a licorice tobacco would fit me perfectly. However the licorice flavor and aroma were not as prominent as I expected. War horse is a good smoke to be enjoyed by a campfire or sitting on the porch on a cool autumn evening.

Good stuff
Very nice black licorice taste to it. Not too strong and not too sweet. Definitely worth trying if you are interested in something different.

War Horse Green
This blend is very unique. It seems like a classic European style tobacco to me. It screams Italian in my mind. The taste reminds me of my Great Grandfather's AVANTI cigars. Has a black licorice taste and aroma. My wife really likes the room note. I absolutely LOVE the nicotine hit from it, it's very relaxing.

Plug all the way!
Weird, I got a tin awhile back that was more densely packed like a plug and the most recent one I received was more like a crumble cake... which is the direction WHG is going? Not sure. Nevertheless I prefer the more dense preparation but they both taste pretty much the same.

Great tobacco. Would buy again.

Strong and savory
This is a very different tobacco, which is refreshing. I’ve found that I definitely prefer it in a small diameter bowl. It has notes of anise and other mysterious flavors. One thing to note is that the vitamin N content is high. This is a stout aro that isn’t syrupy sweet. It’s best sipped slowly and paired perfect with a good root beer.

Now You're Smoking! Giddyup!
Truly tremendous! Tin note instantly reveals anise...my first response was "black licorice." It's noticable, but not overpowering. The beginning of the bowl is robust with thick dense smoke...you know you're in the middle of an experience. The anise tends to gently resurface as the bowl burns down and concludes with enthusiasm. Based on reviews and understanding what War Horse Green is, I really wasn't interested, however curiosity won. Consequently, so did I.

I love this tobacco.
The stoutness and the anise notes. Yes. May be off - putting to some.

I love this blend. I hope you hate it. More for me.
If you like Anise flavor then you’ll love this. Fantastic cocoa notes from the burley, nice sweetness from the Virginia and just enough dark fired Kentucky to keep the blend honest. Imagine “half and half” grew up went to a private east coast finishing school then took off to some southern elite university. This is that tobacco. Beautiful smoke, lovely burn, easy draw, great flavor. I hope you Dislike it so I can hoard a bunch in my cellar (newsflash; I already have hahahahaha)

I shouldn't like it so
I shouldn't like it so much but it's become my favorite aromatic.

Russ is my HERO.
Sweet mystery of life... AT LAST I've found you... This is the most unique, flavorful and satisfying tobacco I have ever tried. I am going back for War Horse Bar and another 3 tins of this next. I am utterly blown away by how delicious and individual this is. Russ is my HERO.

Some love it, some hate it
Very unique toppings, I think its fair to call it a fuller bodied Aromatic. Claims to have same tobaccos as its red brother, but I dont get the "niccups" as often as I do when smoking the W.H. Red. This doesnt mean its not strong! I have a huge tolerance to nicotine and would give it a medium-full body. Great anise (black licorice) flavor, amongst other flavors I cant put a pin on. I go through a tin of red and green monthly. Haven't found anything that gives me that nic fix like Wahorse. Try it out! I personally love this blend, even more eager to try the vintage versions of warhorse

A Licorice Lick
I really enjoyed War Horse Green. The tin note was very pleasant and its taste had a soft, floral, anise/fennel flavor that gave me a cool, gentle and smooth smoking experience. No tongue bite was ever had, but my tongue did tingle a bit - the way it does when a Clove cigarette is smoked. This is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you're drinking tea, water or some other kind of beverage. I'm unabashedly in love with WHG and I'm going to keep it on tap.

Unique and delicious
I'll admit, on paper this sounds like a bad idea. A Dark Fired crumble plug topped with licorice and a tin note of Playdoh. However, this blend reveals itself when smoked. Somehow it works and creates a unique taste and smoking experience not found anywhere else. About once a year I get a craving for this and everything else goes on hold while I burn through a tin. The packing takes some getting used to and it can sometimes deliver a heavy nicotine hit. But the taste has a way of taking hold and really satisfying me. It will ghost a bit so you might want to start off with a cob. As someone who hates licorice, I am always surprised at how much I enjoy the taste of this one. I like it the most of the War Horse offerings. Maybe not for everyone but certainly worth a try.

An Immediate Favorite
Absolutely love this tobacco. Very bold, very robust. Excellent nicotine strength. Highly recommended for those seeking a truly robust tobacco experience.

Satisfying
Easy to crumble cake, burns nicely, bold but pleasant flavor, minimal if any tongue bite.

Don’t be put off by “Lakeland”
I hate Lakeland. There I said it. Hell is real and it’s name is Gawith&Hoggarth. But this ones different. Depending on how you prepare this, the flavor is dramatically different. Larger chunks result in a more anise forward taste, while smaller chunks push a more citrusy taste. I would have given it 5/5 if I could taste the tobacco.

Incredibly marvelous!
This tobacco is amazing! In fact, it is one of my favorites! Yes, its topped with a licorice flavoring, similar to Pernod, which is applied PERFECTLY! There is a spiciness from the dark fired kentucky, which is present all the way down the bowl but especially so when just beyond halfway. The sane is true of the topping. It doesn't ghost, but, it will remind you that it has visited your pipe if that makes any sense? However, it is so amazing in flavor that you wouldn't mind it, unless you detest licorice. It also packs amazingly well and burns down to a white ash. Lastly, my wife, who is vehemently opposed to the smell of tobacco, enjoys the aroma both during the smoke and afterward. It is potent enough to satisfy, but not so much so that it gives me the spins, but, of course, YMMV. This is wonderful when round the house or while walking the hound, yet, also while in mixed company, particularly those against our delightful hobby. In all, very highly recommended!

War Horse
I didn't mean to order plug, but it's not a big deal. It's easy to flake off and mix with my regular brand. It's a good taste. Mild but flavorful.

Mediocre Lakeland-Style Blend
This is a mediocre Lakeland-style blend. It is so heavily flavored with floral, fruit, and creamy notes that I cannot taste the underlying tobacco. I want to like it, as the flavor is very enjoyable for the most part, however there is an off note that I can't get past. I get hung up on that one flavor, which tastes like this artificially flavored toothpaste that my childhood dentist used on me for years. If you want to try something in this genre, then go for Gawith & Hogarth's Ennerdale. That stuff tastes similar, yet is done extremely well.

Disappointed. Anise top, no other real flavor.
If you like Anise and dark-fired Kentucky then this is OK, but I don't find it satisfying. It is too dark and not sweet whatsoever. It doesn't smoke well. I have given it a few tries and I am convinced now that it doesn't get better after the first impression. It doesn't live up to the rep of its red brother.

Mint!
Mint! Tin note was like a mint leaf and the flavor wasn't much better. Tobacco was relatively tasteless except for a minty overtone. I like standard Warhorse Bar but this in my opinion is not a repurchase. Might be okay if you had a cold and wanted a tobacco to maybe help clear out your sinuses.

Very Pleasant and Relaxing
This and War Horse Bar are my first plug tobaccos. I was a little nervous about trying something other than a Cavendish or Latakia. I'm glad I did!
