4th Generation 1855

This is a fantastic tobacco. I first tried it at the 2015 Chicagoland pipe show as part of the Chicago Bowl of competing Virginia-based tobaccos. While it wasn't my top vote (that went to McClelland Virginia No. 27), I enjoyed it enough to buy a tin, and I'm glad I did. I originally thought this was just matured Virginias, but opening the tin, you get a huge rush of a fruity, tea-like aroma that actually enhances the tobacco rather than hiding it. As with most pipe enthusiasts, I cut my teeth with aromatics but soon discovered the beauty of natural tobaccos. I never really smoke classic aros anymore (more of a VA and VA/Per kind of guy), but this is definitely going to stay in my rotation indefinitely and should age beautifully with the high natural sugar content of the VA. The room note is fantastic--I get many positive comments while I smoke. It also tastes beautiful all the way to the bottom of the bowl. Whether you're an aro lover or VA head, or just want to try something new, BUY SOME!

Of my latest set of tins I purchased to try out, this one ranks as one of my favorites. It has a nice aroma when you break the tin seal, and that aroma transfers well when you smoke it. My wife liked the smell so that is always a plus. It is mild yet complex, has tastes of plum pie, sherry, smokey fruit flavors. And while you smoke it, it takes you back to when you were a kid and would smell that sweet pipe smell coming from grandpa's pipe. I recommend at least trying 1855 to your collection even if you are not into aromatics.
