stays lit, tin aroma great. I have only smoked it twice now, and feel it needs a little extra.. for me. I want to mix some BCA into it. For me BCA is like adding salt or pepper to your meal. I haven't done this because I ran out. Waiting on deliver. A good aromatic but lacks a bit.. adding BCA may bring it to 4 stars.

I've gone through about 7 to 10 tins of CAO Moontrance, and on a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 6 to an 8. I like to keep a variety of my favorite tobaccos on hand, and I will "rotate" to it about every 10 cans of other tobaccos. It's a very, very satisfying tobacco that I intend to continue to order and re-order indefinitely. When I get a little tired of the others, this is a good one to turn to, especially if I am sipping on a little serving of rum, bourbon or even coffee. I like anything by CAO, but this and Eileen's Dream are two of my favorites. I also really like Cult Of The Blood Red Moon, but it is from a different manufacturer. If you ever need help choosing something, call the home office of Pipes and Cigars, ask for Sal. Everything he's ever recommended to me has been a winner!

Great stuff. Really nice flavor. I fired some up the other day after having a steak and man that hit the spot. I get hints of fruit yes, but also chocolate and maybe a maple syrup flavor. I really enjoy this aromatic, definitely an all day smoke.

Flavor is better than its cigar offering but it's difficult to balance enjoying the smoke with avoiding tongue bite, and folks I smoke very slow. What's interesting is that it appears Stanwell vanilla is processed very closely to how moontrance is. The color, texture, cut, and consistency look identical. Personally these two look too pale to me in the tin and I don't know why but that makes me nervous like the quality is lackluster or something. Upside is, fairly good room note. This is often compared to Molto Dolce, IMO there is no comparison go with Molto.

Over the years I've experimented with a wide variety of tobaccos, not so much in search of what I like, because I haven't met one yet I didn't like at least a little, but more to broaden my experience and train my palette. The CAO aros are good, reliable, all-day smokes that taste good, smell good, and are usually appreciated by those who don't normally appreciate the aroma of tobacco smoke. I like my tobaccos drier that most do, but in my experience, these smoke better and bite less after at least a good half hour to hour's drying time, otherwise they can bite a little if you're not careful. The flavors are definitely noticeable, but you can still taste the tobacco. The vitamin N is at the mild level. If you want more of a kick, these tobaccos mix well with non-aro burley blends or VAs. These (Moontrance, Bella Vanilla, etc.) are good, middle of the road, reliable, all-day aros that aren't way over the top and don't produce too much goop.

Not as smooth as Eileen's Dream because it has much less black Cavendish in it, however, this has a nice vanilla infused whiskey flavor to it. The mouthfeel is still pleasant and a little spicy for those who like their aromatics to be light and bright! A good general purpose tobacco with a smoke that lasts a little longer than an hour and has a pleasant room note.

One of the few I've ordered twice. Very flavorful and burns good. Some fruit and rum and vanilla flavors. The first tin several years ago I tasted more flavors but last tin was still good. I think would do good with some aging. A very solid complex blend that's subtle enough to enjoy.

Got this for the wife since she enjoys the Moontrance cigars by the same company. She loves this in a pipe more than she did in a cigar.
tin notes are fruity, with wiffs of stronger than you'd expect vanilla. I haven't been able to place the bourbon yet, but still, this is a pretty nice smoke... I see my wife asking for more tins of this in the future..

I was introduced to Moontrance in it's cigar form, but the pipe blend of Moontrance is a really nice blend. A little sweet vanilla, fruit, and light caramel is what I get from it, along with a fantastic room note that pleases even non-smokers. A great way to wrap up the day. My only complaint with CAO Moontrance is that it isn't sold in bulk. Beyond that, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a nice and cool burning aromatic.

CAO's Moontrance is a tin I ordered after reading some "give these a try" threads.
This stuff is a home run. Smells great opening the tin, smells great while smoking. About halfway through the bowl the fruity flavors show up just under the vanilla. This is my current favorite smoke. No bite and is friendly to puffer like me

A solid 5 star blend. A most excellent blend of Virgina, Burley, & Cavendish plus aromatic topping that produces a vanilla/caramel nuance for an excellent smoking experience! Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Like many aromatics, seems the cooler you can smoke it the better flavor. Mellow vanilla flavor with a little something else mixed in. I don't know that I'd call that something else "exotic fruits" but it's a welcome flavor. Left a welcome taste on my palate which eventually faded to a mild bodied cigar.

This stuff has a great tin note.. too bad it doesn't fully translate to the smoke. I get a very full tobacco flavor and it's easy to get a tongue bite with this one. I like it mixed with a lighter non-aromatic like Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend.

I sat there looking at the tin and was being my old skeptical self, and was unimpressed. Then I opened it. The smell was unlike any thing I have encountered. It was beautiful. Then I tried it a bowl..I used a medium tamp. It was awesome..I tasted several fruits in beautiful balance. Smoke it cool and the flavors will dance in and out in a really beautiful way.. No bite, with a stunning room note. When I smoke it at the bar everyone just loves the room note..This mixture my friends is destined to become a classic and will remain on my order form for years to come. One simply has to try this to be an experienced pipe tobacco smoker. But I think my description falls utterly short of the real experience..Try it.

New to the pipe world, but this is a forgiving tobacco while trying to get the hang of it. Great flavor and long burn... As long as I remember its a pipe, slow down... Its not a cigar. Wife loves the room note.

Very smooth smoke with noticeable yet not overpowering vanilla. Somewhat moist out of tin. I like to let it dry about 15-30 minutes before packing.

I will be buying this one again when I run out. Smooth sweet taste, great room note. Not as hard to light as Molto Dolce, but similar in taste. And I love Molto Dolce too.

after a couple of bowls I found it very bland. I can't taste any of the vanilla bourbon at all and there is a slight hint of I guess exotic fruits. Wouldn't buy again or recommend it.

Very nice tobacco.... The flavor of the fruit and vanilla is nice and light with good quality tobacco that follows. The flavor intensity is consistent throughout the entire bowl that burns nicely. No bite from this and do recommend...

Its not the same taste as the cigar thats for sure. Pleasant though don't get me wrong. Still very flavorful, just not as strong. Room note is a solid 3.5 out of 5. Would keep a tin around for some variety, but might not be my go to.

Tried Moontrance and Eileen's Dream so far. Both meet my taste bud's approval but favor the Moon! Tried Toasted Black Cavendish by Drew and a really good all black sampler called Black Hole Sun and was very impressed with all, so I can't wait to try the CAO Black!

A very enjoyable aromatic. The flavoring doesn't over-power the tobacco and makes for a nicely balanced, light smoke. I've found that the CAO tobaccos, including this one, tend to come out of the tin a little moist and need to be dried out a bit. Even then, Moontrance can produce a bit of a wet smoke if you don't take your time.

My first tin from these guys. Burns cool and rarely needs a re-light, tastes of mostly mild tobacco with little hints of citrus and floral notes, the flavoring takes a back seat and is in no way overpowering or artificial. Tastes best if you take little sips, room note is very pleasant even coming from people who don't like pipe smoke. Definitely worth a try!
