Although not my first choice having been spoiled by sabranie 759 for years this I found closest so far. the Latakia and macadamias are blended to bring back days of old when a bowl was anticipated .I will continue for a closer but have included sensieni in every order

Good for Change of Pace
I normally smoke Barking Dog however once in a while I like a Balkan like this or Magnus Opus . They are both equal smoke wise to me but BS is cheaper.

One of my all time favorites!
If I were stuck on an island and given a choice of just 1 tin, this would probably be it. Granted, that's my taste for Oriental and Virginia tobaccos but if you're a fan of those, you should add this in your rotation.

This is a quest for me to find my everyday smoke. Balkans really hit the spot and this one was no different. It's sour notes though we're really nuanced and I had to really slow down tomfins them. Good smoke, very nuanced.

I prefer Balkan supreme which is my regular everyday sometimes all day smoke 💨 with its deep smoky darker notes of flavor . this has similar flavor but with a lingering sweetness

Great Balkan
Excellent ribbon cut, nice smokey flavor. Nicotine less than medium, full flavor... savory to be sure. Perfect humidification right out of the tin. Lights well and stays lit if you manage the bowl with your cadence and tamper.

OK, nothing special
After having smoked a pipe off and on for over 50 years, I thought it about time to try this. It is a decent latakia forward blend, but without much complement from the other tobaccos. I like it, but prefer other latakia blends (e.g., Peterson 965, Early Morning and some of the defunct brands - Crown Achievement, McClelland Coyote).

I started smoking the original
I started smoking the original Balkan Sobranie way back in the early 60's. Balkan Sasieni is virtually identical to the original Sobranie. I'v etried quite a few blends that try to equal the original, but the tobacco is the clear winner.

Balkan Sasieni is an excellent choice
Love this blend. Blended to perfection. Consistent with every tin. Moisture content is perfect. Can't praise it enough. Flavors come together perfectly. Awesome aroma when I open the tin. Also can't beat the price. Pipes & Cigars is my go to spot for reasonably priced tobacco and their customer service is excellent.

As a former aromatic smoker
As a former aromatic smoker who has been experimenting with crossover blends (HGL, Burma Road, Cross Eyed Cricket), Balkan Sasieni is my first forage into a English/Balkan blend, straight up. I like it. No bite; full flavored. But I suppose its room note is as offensive to others as Balkan Sobranie was, back in my first pipe life, in seminary.

Love of my life
My go to Balkan. It’s more beach bonfire salty, savory Smokey flavor than sweet . Every day smoker for sure. Nicotine is not too strong, nice and mild.

It is a great tobacco
It is a great tobacco taste, with no casing agents or flavors added. It is a consistent smoking experience for me. The cut is a little fine -- making it burn a bit hotter -- but all in all I consider it a quality product. BTW, your service via email is always an easy experience.

Balkan Sasieni is tops!
For all the Balken lovers in the P&C world. This Balkin Sasieni is tops in my book. Burns are white ash, no bite very mellow smoke. Packs are good in the bowl. For a better smoke don't pack tight. Only bad part burns are fast while the enjoyment lasts. I'll keep purchasing and enjoying this Balkin Sasieni.

A Good Smoke
Salsieni is a nice Latakia tobacco, evenly blended, reminiscent of a milder Dunhill blend. It’s not harsh, nor overly complex; a nice English blend. I can’t say it’s an outstanding smoke, but I’ll keep some available just the same. FWIW, Hearth & Home’s White Knight is supposed to represent the Salsieni of yore. Not having tried the older product myself, I can’t say. White Knight tastes like Salsieni on steroid: the blend is similar, but much stronger, and can be harsh. For my personal taste, I’m guessing a 50/50 blend of the two would approach the ideal Dunhill’s My Mixture, a favorite for me.

Could be the downfall
Great pipe tobacco...bar none, always has been! I strongly suggest that you get rid of the CHILDISH OVER SIZED WARNING LABLE if possible, I think it will hurt your sales considerably . . Trust me on this one! AP

Balkan Sobrani by another name still smokes as sweet.
This is without a doubt the closest to the original Balkan Sobrani although I suppose one must admit that aging and memory may be making me mistaken as regards the similarity but my nose and taste buds say it's what they remember about it and I'm on my third or fourth tin now. I think its superb and there's no more to be said except I would really like a tin with the full artwork on top not blemished by the childish over large warning! You should at least make it possible for us to buy the labels separately if thats what it takes to evade the PC mandates. The look of the tin is important to me, I like to collect them looking like they used to.

The best
I'm sure I've reviewed before, but this is absolutely the best english blend I've tried. It's so rich and flavorful, I cannot get enough. Burns all the way down with very little to no doddle. 10/10 would absolutely recommend.

Superb!!!
Sasieni is fast becoming one of my very favorites (if not my favorite). The mixture of tobaccos, including the Latakia, is perfectly balanced to give a truly enjoyable smoke, time after time. Before Sasieni, my go-to was Balkan Beauty, but Sasieni is even more enjoyable than the now unavailable Beauty. Another home run by P&C!!!

I'm a loyal fan of Balkan Sasieni
I absolutely love this blend! In honestly, I tend to go crazy for Latakia forward tobaccos. Balkan Sasieni is my ultimate Latakia dream come true. It has a perfect balance of sweetness to spice; the flavors are complex and yet never detracted from one another. I really enjoyed the brightness of the Virginias and found that unlike other blends kept a humble supporting role rather than overtaking. The smoke is rich and lush. I love the room aroma more than other blend with this much Cyprian goodness. My wife and fellow pipers completely approve when I smoke near them. It smokes cool and never hasn't bitten me yet in half a dozen bowls. This mixture held its incredible taste from the first light all the way to the bottom of the bowl. Balkan Sasieni is on my "always keep well stocked" list!

Sublime
First off, I'll say this, this is my favorite tobacco period. Likely not a whole lot coming from me. I've only been smoking for about 4 months. However, I've tried and loved quite a few highly regarded lat. based blends such as Plumb Pudding, Mac Baren lat. flake, Peter Stockkebye and Bengal Slices. Bengal Slices was my favorite and I feel this is on the same level, but not quite as complex. The flavor is just as deep and robust. Great smokey flavor, burns cool and doesn't bite whatsoever, and is easy to keep going. Absolute winner if there is such a thing.

Balkan Sasieni, one to try
Balkan Sasieni is a great balkan/English you may want to try if you are looking for a little stronger tobacco than say, Dunhill’s Early Morning Pipe.

Dry as a bone in the desert
When I opened the tin it popped and air flowed as normal. But the tobacco was super dry as if moisture had been sucked out for years under the desert sun. I’ve never had this experience. It could be a fluke. I tried to smoke it but it was not smokable. I added moisture but it’s not the same. I hope no one else has this experience with a top rated tobacco. I suppose that there’s a tin in a thousand that fails perfection.

My daily "go to" blend.
As a pipe smoker for nearly 30 years, I spent the first 25 as strictly an aromatic smoker. Having ventured into Balkan blends a few years back, I could kick myself for waiting so long to try them! Balkan Sasieni has won me over. It is a fantastic smoke at a reasonable price. It's now my daily smoke and it has much more flavorful and satisfying taste than more expensive Balkan blends. If you're haven't given Balkan Sasieni a try, do it now and thank me later.

Not that great
Just do not get all the 5 star reviews on here. This is certainly not like the original BSOSM I smoked in college back in the early 70's. And, it's not that good in it's own right. Kind of tasteless, burns a bit hot. You guys can have it all, as I will not be ordering any more.

Closest match yet in my search
In my long search for something like the English Blend I got from Vottis Pipe Shop in Schenectady NY back in the winter of 1973-74, this is the closest I've found yet. I would say it's about 2/3 of the way there. If I never find a match for Vottis, I think I could get along with both Balkan Sasieni and Hearth & Home's Black House, though both fall far short of what I'm searching for.

It's noice!
Adding another 5 star rating to this blend. Such a pleasurable cool smoke with no bite. Has become a new favorite of the few varities I have tried so far. If you are experimenting you will not be wasting money with this one. I don't consider my self a seasoned smoker by any means, but I really enjoy this blend.

Great Balkan Style Pipe Tobacco
This is one of those storied blends that has been around for years. I think it was produced by one manufacturer for a couple of decades, then some other manufacturer got the rights to use the name, etc, etc, so there's some difficulty in trying to evaluate it based on "how it used to be". I do happen to have some Balkan Sasieni from about twenty years ago (best I can tell) and there is definitely a difference...however who's to say this version won't be the same after being cellared for twenty years? In my humble opinion, they are similar. Not the same. Similar. I can say with certainty that I enjoy the incense-like room note as well as the distinct Balkan character of this blend. I will definitely be getting more of this. I consider it a bargain compared to the elusive Balkan Sobranie which is almost never available and often expensive when it is available.
5 out of 5
Oriental-laden English
I order a tin of BS with nearly every tobacco order. The stuff is that good. I smoke many different Latakia-based blends. This one isn't as Balkany as the true Balkan blends I've got. But it's more Balkany than nearly every English I've got. So, think of it as a light Balkan or an oriental-rich English. Either way, it's good.

You cannot mess up with this blend. Brilliant Smoke and taste. You will enjoy this smoke in winter, specially the Latakia .

Interesting blend
Not bad. Has an interesting spice note to it. I'm not giving it full stars because its flavor doesn't reach out and grab me the way Dunhill Nightcap or Comoy's Cask 11 do.

New Favorite! No, not the song.
I seldom do 5 Stars anywhere just on principle but Sasieni deserves it. I bought a tin of Frogmorton a few years ago to see what all the fuss was about and liked the blast of Latakia on the first bowl, then wondered where it went on all the subsequent. Expensive, so I tried some English with and without Perique, with and without Orientals and settled on Scottie's Blend English Stout. Smoked that for about two years, mixing in 25% Stokkeby Black Latakia. The English Stout is back ordered now and Sasieni came into stock so I ordered a tin last month. Now I've ordered 5 more as there was an initial Frogmorton-like blast of Latakia but the flavoring, while diminished on all the bowlfuls that followed remains. Sasieni smokes cool, packs well and the flavors of all the leafs in combination continue to satisfy. A little more expensive than Stout but a far more flavorful smoke, Sasieni will be my one and only for as long as it is available.

Patience is rewarded with a complex smoke
A smooth smoke with pleasantly creamy clouds of smoke. Very pleasant room note! Not nearly as Latakia heavy as other Balkan style English blends and just sweet enough. With a little patience, the smoke became gradually more complex. The last third of the bowl was sheer alchemy. Perfectly balanced in flavors. The lingering room note after a smoke is intoxicating. Aftertaste is not at all cigarette-y or overly smokey. The longer I smoke this bowl the more I love it! This'll become an old favorite of mine. Great for an after work smoke to unwind and ponder. Perfect with a good book. A little too heavy on nicotine to smoke back-to-back bowls. -------------------------- Bag note: earthy and sour (but not ketchup). The first 1/3 of the bowl: Way lighter than I expected. Almost too light at first. 5mins into the bowl, I began notice and appreciate the subtleties of this smoke. Light floral notes with hints of sweetness dance forward then melt into the background. Mid bowl: Midway through the bowl, it becomes quite good. spicier tones and woodsy undertones are present. Earthy. Almost leathery. Last 1/3 of the bowl: Simply Lovely at the bottom of the bowl. Sweet and floral and musty like autumn leaves are blended perfectly. Pleasantly cool and creamy smoke. ----------------- Tobacco tin age: 5 months Pipe: Meerschaum Smoker: female cigarette convertee. Late 20s. 7 months of pipe smoking.

Review request came a day before the pipe hehe but when the pipe came I had to try it ASAP. Very pleasent surprise. As described it is a small pipe about equal to my clay pipe. Its great for that quick smoke or to sample a new blend smokes cool and leaves no waste even with a moister blend. Nice size for your shirt or vest when you leave for the day & desire a quick smoke. Corn cob does not disappoint & I find I use this more rather than let a bigger bowl set between sessions

Balkan At Its Best!
This blend is one of the best Balkans I've come across. It's not a Latakia bomb but rather it focuses on the Oriental leaf which I believe is the Yenidje leaf. The oriental leaf used has a distinct flavor and adds so much character to the smoke. The Red Virginias add a sweet note that's not heavy and is very pleasant, while the Latakia adds another level of depth to this amazing blend. No tongue bit. Perfect moisture from the tin. It is in summary, a blend that's so unique you have to try it to understand it.

Very pleasant smoke
I don't know what Bakan Solsanie was like, but if it was anything like this, all I can say is WOW! This is by far, the best pipe tobacco I have ever smoked. It takes some getting used to and should be smoked carefully and slowly to be appreciated slowly. It also has a high nicotine content so, if you're not careful, you can get a nice buzz. Smoked cool, dry and no bite. Very complex and Smokey. Worth every penny.

I have been smoking Sasieni for 7mos. not a long time but long enough to know that you either like or you don't, there is no ignoring this blend once you understand the depth of flavors and taste. I have 25 tins in my cellar and buy at regular pace, it is my go to smoke, I hate the word tobaccy or baccy it cheapens the leaf and the designer who creates what we enjoy. A lot of earth flavors in this blend, never have I experience any bite, packs well, and burns slow hardly any dottle. Just to pass time or for reflextion this tobacco would fit well with ant task.

Items arrived quickly and well packaged. This particular tin was fresh with strong aroma of it's distinct Latakia aroma. Very pleased with this brand and will order again!
RS of Dallas, TX
Smooth tasty smoke. Heavy latakia aromas in the tin but much more subdued when smoked. To me it had a very rich peaty, smoky flavor, like a fine aged single malt scotch. In fact my favorite way to enjoy this tobacco is with some Glenfiddich or a good cup of freshly ground dark roast coffee, black. If this was available in bulk, I'd be buying 5# at a time.
TG of Crown Point, IN
Favorite of the two Balkan recipes. Awesome awesome flavor, I cant wait to see the results of the tins I've put in my cellar!
AN of Gainesville, FL
This was my first Balkan and it's exactly what I wanted it to be. Complex, full-bodied flavor without being overbearing. The slight, peppey spiciness on the tongue compliments the flavor nicely.
ME of Hueytown, AL
This is wonderful stuff. One of about 10 blends I'm stocking as funds allow. I find myself smoking this a bit more frequently than my other "treat" smokes. The other treats being captain earl's ten russians, GL Pease Gaslight & Triple Play. Oh, Peterson's Perfect Plug. When I want a delicious smoke that won't clobber me with nicotine or Latakia. It's a luxurious contemplative smoke. I hope to never run out of this. A rare bargain.
JW of Wurtland, KY
Beautiful! This is a delicious blend and a great example of a Balkan. This retails for $17 in California. P&C is why I don't bother shopping at my local stores anymore.
CG of Santa Clarita, CA
When I first started smoking pipes, I bought and restored estate pipes to build up my collection economically. I was smoking a mild vanilla tobacco at the time, and was noticing a unique flavor lingering from the previous owners tobacco in no less than 1/3 of the pipes. After a while I ordered several English blends, and I hit on the flavor I had noticed. It was in Balkan Sasieni. It has been one of my regular blends for 5 yr's now. The flavor is rich with no bite. I've learned that Perique gives it that taste that makes it distinct. I've tried other Balkans, but Sasieni has remained my favorite.
RB of Steele, AL
Just enjoyed another bowl full. Tin has a (to me) heavy Latakia note to it, but once lit isn't that strong. In my pipe, the way I smoked it, burns a little hot, but little to no tongue bite to it. I find it best to smoke slowly. I especially enjoy it when I get home and can sit on the porch, unwind, and watch the world go by. This is something I enjoy and will buy again.
WW of Crowley, TX
Really enjoyed it. Slightly dry on opening the tin. Spicy nose before smoking. Burns well with very few relights, peppery flavors. I'd definitely order it again.
