Blending - Green River Black Cavendish

This is another very versatile component. Green River Burley is treated with sugar water and toasted until the sugar caramelizes and the tobacco is almost black. It has a smooth brown-sugar flavor and a slightly sweet note. In Latakia blends, it will mellow the flavor. In Virginia or Virginia/Perique blends, it adds a warm softness, and it can sweeten Burley blends without adding flavoring. Moderate in nicotine, average burn rate.

Please note: Some of our blending tobaccos arrive in a dry state from the manufacturer since they don't add humectants to these tobaccos. We aren't allowed by law to add any moisture to the tobaccos we sell, so they may arrive rather dry, but will rehumidify easily.

Add to everything from Aeros to English.
Love this stuff, the only blender I purchase by the pound. I found this while trying to re create several blends I like from some well known tobacconist. I will not list names but look at the blend ingredients of several popular blends you will see “world famous green River black cavendish” listed as an ingredient. I have never smoked it straight but find myself adding it to everything from aeros to English blends. Tobacco arrives relatively dry even when purchasing a sealed 1 pound bag. When blending this is not a problem as most other tobaccos are to wet when blending and it balances out quite nicely. This is such a common ingredient in tobacconist special blends I wonder why it is not used in large scale commercial blends. It could be large commercial manufactures just list cavendish as an ingredient and omit the green River.

This stuff was a sweet
This stuff was a sweet treat that i used for a filler in my first blend. My first blend was sort of a train wreck. I used too many different kinds of tobacco and didnt balance them right so i didnt get all the little subtle flavors. But i did use this stuff for a filler. It made up half my mix. It provided a good sweet flavor that prolly saved the day. It tasted just like my reading said it should. Had a good mouth feel.

This Black Cavendish a standard mixture ingredient!
Use this in mixing my own blends. Offers a smooth and cool component to variations of non-aromatic and oriental mixes.

This is an essential black
This is an essential black cav to have on hand. It’s excellent as a blending tobacco in many situations. However, its not universal. In vanilla or unflavored burley and Virginia based blends it’s excellent, slowing down the burn rate and complementing the flavor. Not so good with caramel or fruit flavored blends. I always have some on hand ready to try with new blends.

Great for blending
I bought some tobacco leaves from Leaf Only and made some blends. They all needed some black Cavendish. This mix is just great.

Superb blending component
Great for smoothing out a blend and adding some natural sweetness. When it's used up in all my personal blends I will definitely be buying more.

Finally!!! I found it!
I love this blending tobacco. Untopped Cavendish is a stable ingredient in most tinned and professionally blended poaches. Wonderful smell. Almost like prunes. I do not miss the vanilla topping that seems to be the only other option for Black Cavendish.

Great for balance.
This is great for rounding out your blends without adding any unwanted flavor.

The best Cavendish
I have tried a wide range of Cavendish tobaccos. It seems like adding flavor to tobacco is a difficult process to get right. The Green River Black Cavendish process, gives about the best flavor of all the Cavendish varieties. Green river does blend very well with my favorite... Dark and Burley. That's my story and I am sticking to it

Green River Black Cavendish
The only one that I know here that doesn't taste phony & icky because of added chemical flavors. It's very nice.

I Use GR Black Cavendish For Blending
I use this for blending purposes only. I don't smoke it straight but it provides a subtle sweetness that is necessary when blending Balkan Mixtures. Works very well & provides a little more Vitamin N than most other Black Cavendish. I also add a very minute amount, a few pieces... just a tiny smidgeon of Lane Limited Black Cavendish with this to create an added flavor dimension & a bit of extra sweetness while blending my Balkan Mixtures. I purchase most all my blending tobaccos from P & C & I can rely Russ Ouellette's experience for advice & always get a prompt reply. I've been doing business with P & C for about ten years & will continue to do so. They have a great selection of blending & bulk tobaccos @ reasonable prices. Many thanks to Russ for advice.

A Blending Dream
I had been looking for a non aromatic to round out the flavor of a blend I had been chasing for a while now. I needed something to bridge the gap between a bright yellow Virginia and the musky dark fruit flavor of the Perique so the good people here at P&C suggested this Black Cavendish, and wow they hit the nail on the head. Its subtle brown sugar flavor fit perfectly between the two. My blend is now complete, and I couldn't have done it without this mellow gem. Thanks guys!

Green River Black Cavendish
Bought a pound. Very disappointing. Not much flavor and won't stay lit and when it does it burns too quickly. I'll go back to another.

Excellent blending tobacco
Blending this with virtually anything seems to make it better. It seems to smooth out harsher tobaccos and add a subtle sweet taste and aroma. I tried the Perique/Latakia/Cavendish mix that someone else suggested and it was pretty darn delicious. My only complaint would be that it is extremely dry. It crumbles easily and is more of a "flake" cut than a ribbon. It makes it slightly more difficult to blend but I assume it's the result of the way the tobacco is processed.
Customer Testimonials
Great blending component to soften the sharp taste of Latakia. It is mild in strength, and can be blended with many different types of tobacco to add some sweetness, that appears to taste a little like brown sugar. This is a very good tobacco!!!
JS of Pasadena, TX
I mixed this with Daughters and Ryan Ryback and Ramback and am very pleased with the results.
WG of GlenBurnie, MD
Excellent! A fine smoke alone and a great blender. Equal parts of this, perique and latakia in a large bowl and I am a happy man.
