Capstan Gold Flake is a traditional as it gets. Bright Virginias are enhanced by a very subtle, sweet and citrusy note and pressed and sliced into beautiful golden flakes, Not matter if you fold-and-stuff, chop it into cubes, or rub them out, these mellow flakes will deliver a true Virginia experience. No Brightleaf fan should pass up Capstan Gold Flake.
In my opinion, Gold Flake isn't quite as interesting. It is more mild and lighter bodied with what seemed to be a slightly stronger citric note.
NOTE: The tin i received from Pipes and Cigars had a tin date from 2 years ago. I don't know how fresh gold flake tastes and I wouldn't say this product isn't good, it just didn't have the body I'd hoped for. Still a quality product and worth a try if you like a more mild flake. Didn't get harsh, and smoked evenly.

Faint tin note of dates and honey. Milder and with less depth than Capstan Blue, the flavor is honey and black tea with a hint of lemon. Quite fond of it myself, despite the high price.
