Cornell & Diehl Bow Legged Bear

Cornell & Diehl Bow-Legged Bear is an "everybody in the pool" blend containing Burley, Virginia, Latakia, Turkish, and Perique. A lot of times, these kind of blends don't work - flavors clash or get muddy - but that's not the case here. Bow-Legged Bear is beautifully balanced, and the flavors marry so well that there's no one tobacco that takes the lead. It's rich, but well-mannered, and delivered in a crumble cake plug. Here's another dynamite blend from C&D.

Excellent
An excellent blend that many people overlook. It's blended so well. The flavors of each tobacco comes through smoothly throughout the bowl. Very tasty. Gently smokkey, sweet and savory. Great job. I highly recommend. Don't hesitate to give it a try.

Cool Can Acceptable Smoke
Good enough. Bought it for the can in all honesty and I’m not disappointed but nothing outstanding.

New blend to add to the stable.
I was a Frog Morton guy but my wife wasn't. She couldn't stand the smell of Latakia. I have been searching and pulled the trigger on the bear and I am not disappointed. The flavor, mouth feel and especially the wife not realizing latakia in the air makes it a winner. Good job.

I bought this to try
I bought this to try kake and I have to say that I'm liking this alot. After opening this canister I noticed it to be a little dry. But after smoking a couple of bowls of it I find that smoking it slowly that it stays lit and doesn't have a bite to it. I will order this again and enjoy it.

The bear will treat you fair!
This blend hit the spot!! One of my favorite, up there with Pirate cake this is lot more subtle though. Has a sweetness about the taste and the smoke flavor. I'll buy more for sure. Highly recommend.

Its good if you like
Its good if you like that latakia, tired not my acquired taste. Heavy Christmas tree tasting...good if you like English blends.

Flying under the radar...
Much overlooked tobacco. This one is VERY flavorful and smoker-friendly, yet never gets mentioned with the big dogs. Not sure why folks don't pay attention to this blend, but they should. A big thanks to Hill Cigar Co in STL for recommending it, or I would have also passed it by.

Let's Hear It For The Bear
Everybody is in the house with this blend- Burley, Virginia, Latakia, Turkish, and Perique. One might would think that is too many players but not true. This is one great blend. I have been mainly an aromatic blend smoker and just recently started exploring English blends. Trying to find my blend and I think my search is over. I really like this blend. This has a very good chance to be my go to blend. I will for sure be ordering more of this. If you want a great smoke grab you a tin of the Bear. You will not be disappointed.

Just buy it!!!!
Just buy it! I was sold on the description alone. In my opinion, its definitely on the medium strength spectrum(nicotine wise) Taste wise- it is full of flavor- nothing stands out in particular nothing complex. It's not overloaded with TOO much latakia. It was a pleasure to smoke. It didn't leave me bowlegged, but there is plenty of vitamin N. Warhorse Bar (red) is still my go to for that kick in the @$$ I need (Nic. wise) The tobacco was moist but not too moist- the "crumble plug" was easy to rub out with little effort.

Burned slow and cool and
Burned slow and cool and gave full draws. I was hoping for a bit more flavor, but very satisfied. Yes, it does cause a little bow leggedness after a big bowl, great stuff!

The Bear is an Excellent Addition
My first tin of BLB and I am in love with this blend. Smoky weet and sour, strong and spicy. Beautiful.

Perfect
As a novice in pipe tobacco, I find that this is one of my favorites.. I honestly love the burn, the smell, and flavor.. For me this one one of my top choices!!

Good all around smoke.
This is the 4th English blend I've tried, and I like it. It's the most full-bodied out of the four I have tried. I prefer Comoy's Barrel No. 1 - Double English(which is my regular blend), but Bow-legged Bear is a tasty alternative due to the inclusion of the Perique and Burley and exclusion of the Oriental.

My #1
Great flavor and strong nic punch. Now I now why that bear is bow-legged. Great value as well. This may become my #1.

Strong like a bear
I went into this tin with high hopes, and things went right. I was expecting a strong latakia blend and the tin note was excellent. Stong enough to tell me it was almost as good as I had hoped. The crumble cake holds together nicely, but doesn't take too much effort to rub out. As the name implies, after you tear a chunk off the cake, it crumbles and packs pretty nicely. I almost packed it too tight at first. Not overly moist, it lit pretty well with no dry time. I think I'll let the rest air a little to see if it stays lit a little better, but about 1/3 of a bowl down with two tampings before it went out the first time. It isn't consistant all the way through, which is a double edged sword, but one I have come to love after only one bowl. I will be putting the 8oz can on my wishlist to buy after this tin is done.

Great for a change
This baccy came in a nice dense cake. I shaved off enough for a small bowl and let it dry a bit. All I can say is that it it is a potpourri of incredible flavor. I love it. Try it.

Very enjoyable
I bought a tin of Bow legged bear after a friend had given me some to try. It will be a staple in my cellar, one of my favorites, easy to smoke and a very interesting blend.

Unsmokable, this tobacco simply won't stay lit.
Didn't get a chance to enjoy the qualities of this tobacco as it absolutely would not stay lit. No matter how hard I puffed, after lighting the coals simply went out. I played the butane flame on the tobacco over and over until it got uncomfortably hot to the tongue and it still went out within half a minute. I've smoked a lot of pipe tobacco and never had a problem like this. I shredded the cake and mixed it with some bulk tobacco I had.

Incredible Experience!
Excellent Marks All-Around! There is much that can be said for this magic in a tin. I could say the flavor is rich and sublime. The quality, well aged tobaccos coat your mouth in a way no other blend will. I could say even with all the powerful tobaccos in it, it smokes cool and smooth with no bite. There is much that I can say but I will say this, Buy a plug and experience the BLB for yourself. In the words of the Great Stan Lee - 'Nuff Said!!!

My Favorite
This tobacco is incredible! I have been doing a lot of experimentation, lately, and I am most impressed with this tobacco over all the others I've tried. When you open the can you are met with strong fruity and smoky aromas with a citric tinge. The smokiness and fruitiness comes through in the smoke and there is also a tangy component along with smooth Virginia tobacco sweetness. This is just an awesome smoke. Apparently, the word is out because I'm out and it's nowhere to be found! Hope they get more in soon!

Smooth
The first time that I tried this tobacco it got me a little dizzy. Packs a nice punch, but it a nice smooth smoke. In fact it's such a smooth smoke I was surprised at its strength.

This is the crazy, grizzled cousin of Briar Fox
This is the crazy, grizzled cousin of Briar Fox who lives in a shack in the woods. With its ambitious medley of tobaccos it's delightfully pungent, strong, and deliciously unrefined.

It will put hair on your chest
Cornell & Diehl is pretty much my favorite brand. I read about this one and gave it a try. Awesome! Very spicy and dense ... wish I could afford to burn it all the time.

DECENT SMOKE
I guess it properly hits its mark as a Full English blend. I am a hair-on-fire, curl-my-toes, Balking fiend. ... so i am not all that excited about it. But, it must be said that Bow-Legged Bear succeeds for me with the way the Perique works in it. It works (loosely packed) in my briers, but better in my big Meerschaums, and Best in my tall corn cobs.

Great departure from English blends.
A friend suggested I should try this blend. To him he said the flavor was addicting. I ordered a tin and I think he has a point! The Latakia is great with the two types of Virginia's and Turkish with a touch of Perique. It's the way they put this complex blend together that brings out the symphony of flavors! My tin didn't last too long. Time to reorder!

Loving the bear, would buy again
This is so subjective, for perspective I like fuller bodied blends like Durbar, Nightcap etc. This is not a lat-bomb, but you can taste the latakia. If I were to taste it blind folded I might have guessed it was a Scottish blend. You can taste the latakia, but it's not overbearing, there's a base note there that's not just the lat - maybe burley? It has a nice velvety depth and a light sweetness. I like it quite a bit.
Customer Testimonials
I enjoyed this tobacco and it tasted great to me. I don't like aromatics; just good tobacco. Couldn't tell you if I tasted burley in the first third or Virginias at the bottom. It just tasted good to me. If you're one of those who likes to confuse things with complexity, you may wish to find a more refined smoke... or a review by more refined smoker. If it doesn't make me want to spit for fear of getting sick, it isn't good tobacco. This blend did the trick for me.
