I am not an expert on pipes. The only thing about round bottom bowls is that they dump over unless you set them down in a holder, or propped up some how. This bowl is fine, and reasonably priced, which is why I chose it.

Growing up I remember my Grandpas Grabows on his stand. I love Savinelli, Peterson, etc they're all great but Grabow is the original "Americana" of pipe smoking. Looking at this pipe, like I say it reminds me so much of Grandpa and his bent billiard. Bottom line, smokes great, Grabow quality (Gramps smoked his for years) and affordable. If you don't want to break the bank, but don't want to sacrifice a good smoke buy buy buy my friends.

Dont get me wrong, i love dr grabow pipes. They are value and quality but be careful in sense that when you buy them from pipes and cigars they are assorted. I ordered 3 and none of them what i wanted. Now i have to deal with the headache of returning them and i have to pay for the returning shipping. So all in all, dr grabow no more

"Pipe stems" to large for my pipes.

The Pipers received and work great . The Pipe stems unfortunatly do not fit any of my old Dr Grabow pipes . It seems the are to large for my use.

I bought the straight collector (smooth) as my first pipe. Since I have gotten additional pipes but this one has a special place in my heart. Typically I smoke slowly so the bowl never gets too hot. Took my time breaking it in as well which helps a lot. For the price I would recommend this pipe as a briar option over cheaper corn cobs as a first pipe to dive into the hobby. Also, I have used it with and without filters and works great either way. More personal preference it seems.
