Dr. Grabow pipes are always a winner. This pipe in particular smokes quite well. The bowl is a touch small but that makes it perfect for a quicker smoke. Pipe smokes dry, while a few of my other pipes like to gurgle a lil.

I erred here as the bowl is too small and after only lighting twice, the bowl was boiling and losing its finish-----tobacco seems to burn very quickly thus not an enjoyable event. I since purchased a Riviera which I have had good luck with.

I purchased one of these from a drugstore about 10 or 12 years ago. I was a virgin pipe smoker at the time and due to some inferior tobacco I quickly lost interest. A couple of years back I got into cigar smoking. Due to the cost of that I decided to give the pipe a try again. This time I did my homework, studied hard, and found a tobacco I just can’t live without. The Grand Duke stuck by me throughout all of this. Now, personally I have found that I like smooth bent pipes. My Grand Duke is neither. It is rusticated and then some as my Border Collie got ahold of it when he was teething several years ago. All that aside, my Grand Duke is an excellent smoker and despite my personal preferences I thoroughly enjoy smoking it. I have actually measured mine with a caliper and scale. The measurements are 6.12” long, 1.37” high, 0.9 ounces, 1.25” bowl depth, 1.27” outer bowl diameter, and 0.71” inner bowl diameter. If you do the math the volume of tobacco it holds is 0.49 square inches. This is perfect for me. I have been using her for a work pipe. As such, she’s been smoked several times a day. She tucks away nicely in my tobacco pouch leaving ample space for other necessities. Although, I am considering of retiring her to home use as I have noticed she requires probably more time for a smoke break than is normally allotted. My Royal Duke is a tad smaller with a bowl capacity of 0.41 square inches which should provide a more reasonable smoke break. So far I own three Dr. Grabow pipes. The Grand Duke was my first. They are all great smokers. They are quality pipes at an affordable price. I’m definitely going to get me more Dr. Grabow’s. Finally, if you are wondering how the filters work don’t worry about it. Nothing but smooth smokey goodness with no bits of leaf to chew on or tarry tobacco juice to suck on. I love the filters and after Lord knows how many filter changes the stem still fits nice and tight.
