Escudo Navy De Luxe Sale

Escudo Navy Deluxe is the gold standard of Virginia/Perique blends and has been for more than 140 years. Choice US grown Virginias and slowly fermented Louisiana Perique are combined, then pressed and spun, finally being sliced into coins. The flavor is lightly sweet but has nice depth and a pleasant amount of spice. Even though it has been made by a number of different companies during its lifetime, Escudo still reigns supreme among Va/Pers.

Escudo Navy Deluxe
This was my first time trying Escudo and now I see what the hype is. This tobacco is wonderful. The Perique and Virginia's are blended so well that it's absolutely irresistible. I'm working on my second bowl. If you haven't tried Escudo you don't know what you're missing. Give it a shot you won't be disappointed.

Newish to Virginia-Perique but this is my favorite
I also really like Escudo but this one slightly edges Escudo out for me - it's notably more luxuriant

This is not a blend… it’s an experience
Opening this tin, the color, the smell, the taste… all three reminded me of three different blends. The color was bright and in the twist had it’s random beautiful black swirl, this color really reminded me of, Esoterica Dunbar. The smell was definitely “VaPer” but a grassy VaPer. The smell gave me Orlik golden sliced vibes but with a bit more spice/fruit-breed. Finally, rubbing out (instantly, no dry time needed) it behaved perfectly, beautiful ribbon, and smoked… smoked smooth, clean and crisp. The grassy flavor reminded me of Peterson(Dunhill) flake. The first half of the bowl was mostly full, crisp grass, with random hits of creamy/spiced/sweet Christmas bread. Getting to the second half, this blend really opened up and showed it’s true colors. I welcomed it in and poured it a glass of, Glenfiddich 12. I knew this blend would become a good, old friend. Grassy sweet, creamy and yeasty. I can definitely see why this Tobacco has been a cult favorite for so long. Well done, STG

Sweet, peppery excellent smoke
A smooth coyingly sweet cool smoke with some tangy black pepper notes added in that comes through nice and easy like. No real bite to this tobacco. Pleasant aroma not too much and not a lot of smoke. A very good, high quality pipe tobacco.

Great Va/Per
Escudo is one of the most popular Va/Per’s out there, and for good reason. Its mildly sweet, and tangy, with some grass, hay, and pepper notes. Burns cool, and even, with a slower cadence. Zero bite. The smoke is light, and won’t cloud up a room. My wife doesn’t really notice the room note on this one much, but says it’s pleasant. It also ages beautifully. I don’t smoke this often, but it great from time to time. This is an excellent one for sure!

One of the very best!
I bought ten tins of this blend about 21 months ago. I opened the first tin a few weeks ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wanted to get some age on this batch of Escudo Navy Deluxe before I opened any of it. This is a very good Va/Per, probably my favorite, I smoke Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake and Luxury Bullseye Flake more than anything else, but Escudo is my treat tobacco, to be opened on special occasions. It never fails to deliver a good quality smoke, and I plan to keep it in the cellar and the rotation!

People say VaPers smoke hot, but I didn’t notice it with this. I folded two coins in without drying and it smoked great. Full flavored sort of it reminded me of a juicy Fruit bubble gum aftertaste. My girlfriend who’s not a pipe smoker like the aroma and even tried it and was pleasantly surprised.

Escudo Navy De Luxe Defines VA/Per Tobacco Blends
Escudo Navy De Luxe I think defines Virginia/Perique pipe tobacco blends ought to be. The flavor is pleasantly robust, without any bite, even in a well used clay pipe. I order Escudo Navy De Luxe when I plan on a camping trip as a treat for myself. The balance is tipped toward the Virginia, grassy, hay barn end as one might wish. Too much Perique, and the blend would be too much like pickles.

A fine relaxing smoke.
Excellent smoke, there is a very good reason why this is the gold standerd.

Give it some age, even a few months
I have to admit, when I bought a ton of escudo fresh a few months back, I wasn’t impressed, and thought the blend tasted to much like hay. I jarred the contents of the tin, and basically forgot about it for several months now. Well, I decided to revisit the coins tonight, and I am pleasantly shocked at how much it has changed just sitting in a mason jar for a while. I went from thinking this was my first and last Tin, to now knowing I will probably order a couple tins of this with every order online just to build it up in my cellar and let it age. I can’t even imagine how good it will be in a couple years, let alone 10 to 20.

What a treat!
Open tin. Slowly inhale the bready goodness. Gently set aside two coins. Sniff them again. You know you want to. Uncurl them one by one. Caress the resulting fine ribbons to ready them for the bowl. The moisture is just right. Not too dry. Perfect. Once packed, light as you normally do. The nic is undeniable. But no bite at all. Definitely in my Top Ten, if not Top Five. A masterpiece. They say it only gets better with age. I can't wait.

Age works magic
I tucked fifteen tins of Escudo Navy Deluxe a couple of years ago. I reviewed it here when I first got it, and it was fairly fresh. I have been patiently waiting for some time to pass, to see how much it mellowed. I'm delighted to report that age is definitely working it's magic. I just finished a very smooth and creamy pipe of the two year old stuff, in a Savenelli Punto Oro sandblasted poker. There's not even a touch of roughness, it's smooth as silk. It hits the honey zone fairly quickly, and offers the flavor of baking bread. It has a food like quality, that's a a bit hard to describe. I think it's the "Umami" flavor, which is what the Japanese call "the essence of deliciousness". Escudo is a little bit expensive to be my every day smoke, but it makes a wonderful treat every so often. I fill out the in between with Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake and Luxury Bullseye Flake, which are not only very affordable, but they are outstanding flakes. I'm particularly fond of the Luxury Navy Flake, the balance of VA to Per is perfect! So, if you love Escudo fresh, put some away for at least a year, you will be pleasantly rewarded. I'm anxiously awaiting for the five and ten year marks!

I found the Escudo Navy
I found the Escudo Navy De Luxe to be good, but not especially what I was looking for. I guess I prefer the Virginia Flake tobaccos instead of those with Perique.

Day dream bread
One of my favorites. Tastes like fresh baked bread. Blew my mind but I can't afford to make it a daily smoke, runs out too fast. Fold and stuff and before you know it you will wake up from a day dream with a pipe still in your mouth, or on the floor, or in the ocean. Who knows.

I really like this stuff, but wife doesn't. Almost as good as old Joe krantz, but it comes in coins which are fun to fold and stuff. Good break from ribbon cut. I am looking at my tin, hear wife snoring, but as soon as I light up she would yell, what's burning, what do I smell, so this is enjoy at cabin or shop stuff. I still like it.

The quintessential VaPer.
I bought ten tins about a year ago, when it was on sale for a very attractive price. I just opened up the first tin, and I'll be keeping eight tins in the cellar for several years, to put varying amounts of age on them. I'll be smoking two tins now, after one year of aging. So, what was my impression of the first tin? I'm in love with it! I hadn't smoked any Escudo Navy Deluxe in a long time, maybe twenty years. I loved it back then, and I love it now. It is the quintessential VaPer, against what all others are measured. The tin note is tangy, and figgy/raisiny/dried fruity, and just delightful. It smells like it aughta. The moisture level is perfect for aging, but I aired out several coins, without rubbing out, for about a half an hour. I loaded a meerschaum pipe with a tall, tapered bowl (perfect for Virginia based tobacco), using the "fold and stuff" method. I packed it until there was just starting to be a bit of resistance while drawing on the pipe. It's light and grassy on the first few draws, with just a bit of tingling in my nose on the retrohale. Then it begins to develop, and gets into the zone fairly quickly. This is where the synergy happens, and it becomes greater than the total sum of its parts. It is sweet and slightly peppery, but with an incense like quality. This is what a great VaPer should be, the quality of the ingredients really shine. I'm so glad that I stocked up on this one, if it goes back on sale again, I just might buy ten more tins!

A great all day smoke
Truly a great tobacco! There is a light plum/fig or citrus tin note. The flavor is slightly sweet and spicy with a mild tobacco flavor. Just a great smoke.

The Gold Standard
This is THE gold standard VaPer and I can definitely see why. First bowl out of the tin was a bit wet, but that's on me for being impatient and not allowing for drying time. But the flavor was so damn good. Full of great Virginia sweetness and that touch of perique spice was just right. Perfectly balanced smoke and I'm going to try and keep my hands off of the other tins until they get some age on them.

One of my New Favorites
So I mostly go for Burley blends and in fact do not typically enjoy Virginia or perrique For that matter. But for some weird reason, this is such a sublime smoke for mid morning or afternoon. Not too spicy and has just a touch of sweetness. Love that my mouth doesn’t have an unpleasant aftertaste when done with a bowl.

I recently ordered half a dozen tins for my cellar after not having smoked it for 6-8 years. It’s still great, but doesn’t have the strength it once had. It’s a bit sweeter and a bit lighter in nicotine level. The flavor is fantastic, I just wish it still had the umpfh it once had.

New favorite
This might be my new favorite tobacco. It smokes cool and has a semi sweet, bready, somewhat spicy flavor to it. I have smoked a lot of aromatics, and have only really tried one pure Virginia. This was my first Va/Per, and I am about to order several more tins of this. I like aromatics, I like English blends, but I can't say enough good things about Escudo Navy De Luxe.

Great for the intermediate pipe smoker.
The tobacco that helped hone in on the type of pipe tobacco that I enjoy smoking. Has a great aroma while in the can, smoked smooth and cool if packed right, was a mix between heavy and light smoke and was actually one of the first pipe tobaccos that gave me a little nicotine kick. Having to work out these rolls by rubbing them between my fingers before packing my pipe added to the relaxing nature. I am still experiencing May blends and makes but I have added this to my “buy again” list. Just writing about it makes me crave it again.

A Perfect Blend? I Think So.
This is my desert island tobacco. This is the gold standard for VaPer's. The taste is phenomenal and the even and slow burn in the pipe is unparalleled. This is a tobacco you can sip all day long. If you're only smoking aromatics and want to try something new, this is your tobacco.
5 out of 5
Simple, yet remarkably satisfying
As a new pipe smoker, this is the tobacco that shifted me from automatics to Virginia's. I love the taste and presentation of this tobacco. It's the first one that I feel I need to start stock piling. This is a winner and should be in everyone's rotation.

Excellent Blend!!
This is my first experience with a Virginia/Perique blend. Truly great stuff!! To me it smells like freshly baked bread in the tin, just as it has been described in other reviews I've read. Very mellow - actually tastes just about what it smells like. No bite, no burn whatsoever. Just don't pack it too tightly, as I did the first time around or you'll be tamping and relighting too often. I smoked it in a Savinelli 624KS Toscana, and a coin and a half was more than sufficient to fill the bowl. As this was also my first experience with coin tobacco, I simply folded them, packed them in and lit up. Will be one of my favorite non-aromatics ever and will definitely buy more to put down for awhile. Thanks for reading.

Great quality and muted spicy notes.
Great every day smoke. I haven't cellared this one, so I'm not sure what it would taste like.

Sweet and spicy warm bread.
This blend will definitely be one of my top 3 Va/Pers. The smell from the tin is very mild, grassy like a nice rasin bran cereal or a fig newton. Once lit, it stays lit but does smoke a bit hot. There as some tongue bite but probably because the delicious sweet and very lightly spiced scent of warm sweetened figs and bread had me puffin like a maniac lol. Highly recommend to someone moving to a VA/Per or away from or taking a break from aromatics and burley based. Not really recommending this to a newbie in general as the nicotine does kick if you don't watch out.

Sweet and Spicy VaPers
I love this VaPer! This blend is a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. It has a nice complexity of flavors with figgy-ness up front and some spice and pepper morphing in towards the finish. Mine came with the perfect amount of moisture to fold and stuff. I'm enjoying it very much.

Simple in the best sort of way
Thick, rich, pleasant clouds of tobacco smoke. When I think of a pipe tobacco that is simple but in a good way, I think of Escudo. Burns nicely with no bite and has substantial nicotine even for a non-inhaler such as myself. The coin slices ensure a consistent mixture and the mixture is classic tobacco greatness. I reach for it everytime when I want an "unflavoured" tobacco.

Overrated
A fine blend but nothing special. I suppose I'm in the minority on this one but personally I found it quite tasteless with almost no body to the smoke. Very little spice on the perique to. Not much sweetness. Only around the very bottom did things finally ever get interesting. On the upside seems to have easy cool burn and the preflight aroma is very interesting. Very heavy apricot smell to the tobacco.

Delicious
Just finishing my first bowl of this stuff. Trusted the reviews -- am glad I did so. Beautiful little coins of golden brown tobacco. Starts sweet and smoky and finishes off dark and peppery. Would smoke this all day if I could afford it.

One of the Best VA/Per Navy Flakes Out There
Someone described the flavor of Oscuro as fig-like. Good description. I've always described it as plum-like. Either way, this comes out naturally, by processing the Perique with heat, NOT by adding unnatural, sugary flavorings that do nothing but burn your palate. I like to smoke Oscuro in large bowls that allow me to fold the whole coins rather than rubbing them out. This way you taste the nuances of each type of tobacco rather than a single, monolithic flavor, unchanging from first light to last. (I fold all flakes of all types whenever possible for this reason). While I am primarily a Balkan and Latakia smoker, I do smoke quite a few VA/Per tobaccos. Oscuro is perhaps the one I've smoked steadily for the longest, and it is surely the best.

If you like Virginia/Perique blends, you should try this one. I know it is a little more costly than others, but the extra dollars seem to reflect a higher quality tobacco in this case.

This Is The Good Stuff
Do you want a really good Va/Per blend? Are you looking for something that pleases both nose and palate? If the answer is Yes, then get a tin of Escudo Navy Deluxe. My only complaint is it comes in 1.75 oz tins, and not in bulk. If it did come in bulk, I'd have it every day.

Excellent Va/Per
I’ve had this blend in my rotation for many years now and all I can say is if you’re a Virginia Perique fan you would do yourself a huge favor buying this blend. I’ve aged quite a few tins and always keep a good number in my cellar. They only get better with age! I’ve had the pleasure of acquiring a 1999 tin of original AC Peterson’s Escudo and it was close to smoking Nirvana. Do yourself a favor and stick up in this delicious coin cut Va/Per and you won’t regret it I promise!

Very few VaPers left and this one is top notch. Perfect blend of Virginia and Perique that I enjoy all day long; truly amazing!

Tin note is amazing!
The tin note on this to me is very sweet , fig like. From what I hear cellaring this one only makes it better so I have some in tins and have one tin in a jar to see what happens over time. Fresh out of the tin it's not bad at all, very smooth with a hint of spiciness. Can't wait to try it in several years.

Escudomg
I tried Drexel VIII before cracking the tin of Escudo, just to make sure I could deal with flakes, and to know what to look for in a VaPer. I'm glad I educated myself a tad before opening this tin. This is a perfectly simple tobacco. Virginias and Perique. The quality of the ingredients, though, make it easy to see why this is a powerhouse in the VaPer world. Well done. My only reason for four rather than five stars is the moisture level in the tin. If I had cellared this I suppose the moisture would've been ok, but for immediate consumption it's a drawback. Watch for tongue bite.

Fantastic fresh, superb aged
Must have for aging, outta tin is a bit moist but the smell is a back country road where the lawns are being mowed, fresh as hell, and tastes superb, aged is a fantastically cool smoke with many flavors, room note decent as well, top 5 flakes for me

Superior VaPer!
Mind you, I haven't tried every VaPer out there, but i can assure you it tasted and smoked like everything I had imagined it would. I think i may have even gotten lucky and found its prefect pipe pairing (my Peterson B5). It's such a wonderfully balanced blend, you tend to taste a little more perique. The Virginia's aren't to sour or bright, but more wheaty hay-like. Loved it so much, i smoked it with my coffee every morning! Then i had to buy 3 more tins! Haha

Had never tried a vaper before, always liked English blends, have now opened up a new realm of enjoyment. The Escudo Navy DeLuxe was very good.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!
I usually prefer aromatics so I was quite pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my first bowl of this tobacco! I do disagree with the flavor intensity description as low. Subtle maybe, but definitely not low. Very tasty indeed! This is a great change of pace from my aromatics.

Amazing Tobacco
Amazing. One of my favorite tobaccos. I'm a big fan of anything Virginia and in flake. About all I smoke. Escudo is like the special occasion smoke for me. It's very well rounded for a VaPer. And high on Nicotine. So it's best smoked after a meal or for me. In the morning with strong coffee. All around great tobacco that I will always have in my stock. I've smoked this in many briers but I love this in my MM Cobs.

Escudo
My favorite Virginia tobacco for over 20 years. The only thing I don't like about it is the price.

Escudo Navy De Luxe is absolutely the best Vaper available!!

good Danish blend
A pleasant change of pace. The touch of Louisiana perique does a lot to enhance some hearty Virginia . I especially like the coin cut.

Bliss.
This was the first non "drugstore" tobacco that I ever bought, way back about 1969 or so. I believe it came in a rectangular tin at the time. Had I not found Escudo, I think I might not have continued puffing. That tin, purchased of all places, in a men's clothing store in Ogden, Utah, set the hook in my jaw! Others come close, but this is the king. My tastes have wandered around over the years, but I always have some Escudo stashed. Recently I discovered a tin that I had tucked away several years ago...ah, pipe smoking bliss. I prefer to just fold and stuff in a fairly large bowl. Quit thinking about it and just order up some, today.

Smoked in a new Canadian Stanwell
First flake VAPER I've ever smoked folded and stuffed it in and did not enjoy it. Gave it another chance and rubbed the flake out, much better. It smokes slow and if you enjoy cigars this will probably entice you more. I would not recommend this to someone who only like aromatics and those around you will probably not complement your smoking selection. Good haylike smell of Virginias and slight fermented raisen smell. Not one of my personal favorites but interesting to smoke and it is enjoyable.

Wonderful
Just a short and sweet review. This is wonderful tobacco. Easy to smoke - stays light to the bottom and smokes cool.

So good
Yeah its that good. Some people compare this to Dunhill Navy Rolls and yeah they are both rolls, and thats about as close as that gets. I have tried both and I think Escudo just edges out Dunhill on this one.

This is an excellent VAPer blend. I will be keeping some on hand to cellar.

Stop Reading and Buy It!
Just buy it and try it! My favorite Va/Per of all time. If I sip it and don't rush I will usually get 2 good hours out of two coins' worth. The flavors are nuanced and complex, so don't expect it to slap you in the face. But when you get all of the flavors and aromas that this tobacco has to offer, it will be like a veil has been lifted and you'll know what everyone is talking about.

Good but not my go to.
Good, A bit of a bite. Hard to smoke in a breeze as it only gets hotter. I'll still order more just age it.

It's really good! I love e the flake/ rounds.
I'm a big fan of navy blends and this is a good one! A little bit of bite, but dry it out some before you smoke it and it tames that issue.

Expensive, but everyone should try once.
Not a fan of cake format. And this one is worse as it does not burn well if I pack one disk, and burn like crazy if i pack two. The flavour fluctuates from bitter metallic garbage to a heavenly mix of a fig taste and pear smell. go figure. Maybe i am just smoking this wrong. i do tend to smoke everything too fast.

Escudo Deluxe.
An old favorite. Smooth, minimal if any bite. Good after a hard days work.

Like fine wine
This is an extremely high quality tobacco. I normally smoke IQ which is a great mild blend. However, this tobacco is like fine wine when you want to slowly smoke a bowel with a rich taste. No orientals, off putting taste, or strong aromatics, just a mild and full flavored smoke.

Escudo
This is the tobacco I now use as my primary. I cannot imagine being without it. It has enough strength to be very satisfying, and yet, loads of fig with a hint of molasses tastes comes through wonderfully. I can smoke it all day long if I choose, with no bite.

Sweet and spicy
The mixture of virginia and perique with the rope style pressing the Escudo is crafted in really delivers. Does get a bit of a bite towards the end of the bowl, but that should expected with higher perique content blends.

Left me flat
I don’t know? It just tasted flat. No sweetness, or zing from the Virginias, like I get from H&H Viprati, or their Anniversary Kake. I am going to cellar this awhile, and maybe add some sweeter Virginias to it when I get around to smoking it (Heresy!). For my tastes it just didn’t do it. It’s like my Grandpa use to say, “To each, his own, said the old lady as she kissed the cow.”

Always Excellent
This tobacco is always excellent. I have several tins that have aged over the years and some that just came off the truck. The flavor of both types is amazing. I can fold and stuff or rub out the coins but either way I'm going to have a smooth sweet pipe. This tobacco delivers a consistent smoke that satisfies. I suggest keeping several tins in your rotation.

Hello Virginia a pleasure to meet you
Just cracked open my first tin. Started to roll and stuff, but changed to rubbing it out. Wow is my first impression. I'm a fan of burleys and English blends, but this stuff is GREAT. Burn, aroma, taste, and flavor tell me to rebuy and I will. Good job Scandinavian Tobacco Group. I'm. Believer

Escudo Navy De Luxe is
Escudo Navy De Luxe is another one of those VA/Per pipe tobacco blends that I would recommend for the pipe enthusiast to try who may be looking for a change from either aromatics, or English/Balkan blends. I think of the aroma as earthy, and pleasantly so. In its own way, it is a hearty blend, full flavored, but not so robust that it couldn't be an all day smoke. I've never been able to keep a tin around long enough to keep in a tobacco cellar. Maybe someday I will. All in all, very enjoyable right out of the tin.

Escudo- do the twist!
This is my go-to almost daily VaPer. I don't rub out the coins but just twist them in, leaving an air pocket at the bottom. The smoke is sublime. I don't think I can add anything to the wonderful descriptions that have already been posted. This tobacco has to be one of the best values for the price. I'm surprised it isn't far pricier.

Not 4 me
Not my favorite. This cut was new to me so the pack of the bowl was new, taking a couple trys to get a good bowl. The tobacco flavor was "green?" If that is possible. Smooth dry burn, but a flavor that was not to my taste. Light room note similar to a cigarette.

Escudo Navy
I was truly looking forward to trying Escudo and was not disappointed. After smoking the first bowl, I ordered three more tins the very next day. I was looking for a full-bodied tobacco without the dross of aromatics and found it after several other ones were not to my liking. Escudo is definitely not for the weak, but burns nice without a lingering aftertaste. A simple but great mix of tobacco!

Escudo-The Porterhouse Steak of Tobaccos
Escudo is not a long-standing favorite of mine yet, because I've only tried it twice. But as a novice to pipe smoking, still learning how to pack a bowl, I find myself so thankful for finding it. Mainly because of the forum reviews, Escudo was referenced often and never without reverence and respect. I had to try it and while every bowl for me was not as smooth as I knew Escudo to be, it is a tobacco I would like to always have on hand. You veteran pipe smokers out there could probably laud this brand of pipe tobacco with a lot more descriptive aspects and nuances than I possibly could but I found Escudo to have a very strong body and a very distinctive taste. All I can really say is that when something is appreciated by the experts inclusively it is not for no reason. Escudo has to be not only a best seller but also a hands down favorite to a lot of pipe enthusiasts and so far it sure is for me.

First Tobacco Cellared
Escudo is widely considered to be the standad by which Virginia/Perique blends are judged. I'm now in the habit of purchasing multiple tins on sale, one to keep my fresh jar topped up and several to save for later.

Escudo Navy De Luxe Reigns Supreme!
For me - Escudo Navy De Luxe reigns supreme! Tin aroma is unmistakably very fragrant figs & hay - heavenly! On the palette, snorking & retro-hale, tastes like decadent sweet spicy figs, currants & fresh hay - WOW ...FLAVOR!!! Get some ...don't walk, RUN!!!

Escudo Navy Delux Pipe Tobacco
Has been my favorite pipe tobacco for several years. I like the flavor and it has a medium strength to me. Smokes cooler than a lot of Virginia's I have smoked, and I've tried most of them over the last 40 years. I also like the great service from Pipes & Cigars
Customer Testimonials
Escudo Navy De Luxe is the perfect Va/Pers blend to have on rotation as an every day smoke. Pair it with a peppery scotch such as Laphroaig or Glenfiddich and let it roll. My recommendation: buy plenty and often.
JG of Wise, VA
I can't really add much to what has already been said. It's as good as people say it is. Aging it a few in a mason jar really smoothed it out, and I find it smokes best mostly rubbed out with a few little pieces of flake left in tact, packed fairly well in a taller, narrower bowl. But that's just what works for me. Try some!
JA of Antioch, TN
Spicy delightful smoke, a bit moist out of the tin, easy to pack to tight. Air drying for an hour helps with moisture. The flavor is unmistakably VaPer - get some
CH of Saint Petersburg, FL
Awful, harsh and metallic. I threw it out.
AB of Albany, NY
Good VaPer. The coin cut is easy to rub out, fold, or roll depending on your preference. Recommend ordering at least 2 cans, as the coins are dense and you will go through them quickly.
DW of Wichita Falls, TX
This is a good solid creamy smoke. Recommended.
AF of San Francisco, CA
As a die hard fan of some highly aromatic and heavily encased flavored tobaccos (Moontrance, Melange, Blood Red Moon etc....) I wanted to see what all the hype was about for a non-aromatic true tobacco. When I first received the Escudo tin.... I popped it open and took a big whiff.... my first thought was.... "this is really acrid, I think I made a mistake." I took out a single disk of this stuff.... rubbed it out.... and loaded a nice Billiard pipe with the Frank method. Out to the deck.... and.... wow. This tobacco is absolutely fantastic. Smooth and creamy and perfect. I can't believe what I've been missing.... a nice sweet and salty smoke with a little peppery tingle. If you are looking for a switch from the big and sweet aromatics..... I highly recommend you try this.
MD of Three Bridges, NJ
This is my first non-aro which goes without saying, it's also my first VaPers and it is phenominal. I went to my local tobacconist and saw this and being a Louisiana Native I felt it was only right to go with a Perique. It was nothing like I expected. To be honest I'm not sure what I've expected. I smoked it from my brand new Nording (my first nice pipe, stepped up from my basket briar) talk about a way to leave an impression on a new pipe. I got a little gurgle but I blame that on my inexperience with flakes mixed with the bigger bowl on the Nord. All in all the flavor had a hint of pepper which was a nice touch to the subtle sweetness it left. I knew salty and sweet was great, never thought pepper and sweet would be the true ultimate combo! I can't wait to light up my pipe again in the morning!
HR of Keithville, LA
Just echoing what everyone else has said - GET SOME! I'm a recent convert to Va/Pers. They're my fave non-aro now. I've tried several and this is the best. A bit pricy compared to some others, but worth it! Every puff is pure pleasure. Mellow, but full of flavor with a nice peppery finish. Strangely, as flavorful as it is, there is very little room note.
KR of Glen Burnie, MD
I've been smoking a pipe now for just over a year. During that time I've tried about 15 different tins and I have to say that this is my favorite. To me it's a medium smoke compared to some of the others I've enjoyed, and it's my go to blend. Don't even think about buying this tobacco, just do it as another reviewer has mentioned!
ND of Nampa, ID
Top notch VaPer! If you haven't tried this, where have you been?
MW of Mound City, KS
Don't think about buying Escudo, just do it! Whether you fold and stuff it or rub it out, it's simply a fantastic smoke.
MM of Medina, OH
One of my favorites, nice and mellow. Good for an all day smoke.
MM of Russellville, AR
It was interesting that I had bought a tin of Escudo a couple of years back but didn't want to open it because it was the only tin in my cellar and it already had a little age on it. I bought another tin just because I had to try it and now I have purchased another seven or eight. This is the best tobacco I have smoked and with 250+ blends in my cellar that's saying a lot. To me, there's nothing particularly complex about these flakes but their flavor is out of this world. Smooth, sweet Virginia with just a hint of Perique in the back of the nasal cavity. This is a mild to moderate strength tobacco that never bites, has a smooth, creamy smoke and burns well. It's a little pricey but I think it's well worth it. It's one of about 30 blends I currently have in my active rotation but I find I smoke more of it than any of the others. I highly recommend Escudo Navy Deluxe.
RS of Austin, TX
The undisputed "King" of Va/Pers! Order a tin and find out why. Deliciously sweet and tangy with a pleasant pepper sensation from the Perique. Easily one of the best tobaccos out there.
