General Grant

The famous Union general Ulysses S. Grant was said to smoke 20 cigars a day….a rather hefty number for even the most seasoned cigar enthusiast. With a look very reminiscent of the times, this decorative box houses 30 handmade coronas that offer a modest and smooth tobacco flavor. An extremely affordable and patriotic gem with an even more attractive everyday price!

Not bad, burns well, about what you would expect for the price. Great for doing yard work or just sitting on the porch with friends having a drink or two. I will be buying Grant's again.

Great Cheroots!
My German grandfathers knew a good cheroot, when they saw one. I prefer that word. However one smooth little cigar & found at a good price. Jules who is older man, he's who smokes them. Says they are rich & mellow!

For the price one of the best short smokes I have ever purchased. Will be a recurring purchase as long as they are available! Smooth draw, good flavor, just a nice 20 minute break from the world.

Decent, inexpensive cigars. I prefer these to the cigarillos. Note, these are cello wrapped, but it's not like you're buying these to stash in the humidor and age!

Can not complain. The cigar lit well and the draw was even and not too fast. The flavor was mild and to my liking

Too Small.
These are nice and mellow. They light easy and stay lit. An all around good cigarillo, but they are too small, six minutes and they are burning your lips and fingers. I'll next try the bigger version of this cigar.

White wine pairing.
For the price a good smoke. I honestly did not like the first three until I paired the fourth with a 2018 Sauvignon Blanc from Thrive in California. Ironic a budget smoke pairs well with a budget dry white wine. This pairing actually made both the smoke and wine slightly sweet together. I recommend this smoke paired with a similar white wine and it will not disappoint. I also advise to let the cigars get some humidity from a humidifier for a week before smoking since it smoothens the taste.

Great Budget Cigar
Awesome budget cigar for when you want the most for your money. The cigar is the perfect size for a quick enjoyable smoke. Their look is a bit on the old fashion side but I like that about them. The reason for the four start would be due to I've found a couple beginning to come unwrapped, but are still usable.

Tasty but....
These are tasty cigars. I enjoy them. That being said it seems like this batch was made in a hurry. The leafs want to unroll and the cigar doesn't want to burn well. Never an issue before so I am guessing the manufacturer was in a hurry to get theses made.

Red Blooded American smoke
Not fancy, but a great smoke to hold in your teeth while you're doing other stuff like driving or cutting the grass. They taste like the grill smells when you smoke some ribs or a pork butt.

Have a hard time keeping them lit. When smoking them they start to unwrap and they don’t draw very good.

Great Price, Perfect Everyday
Basic smoke at a great price. Starts out tasting a bit on the cheap side, but after a few puffs the harshness and, forgive me, Swisher cheap flavor dissipates and it becomes an earthy smooth cigar. Plenty of rich smoke. I especially enjoy them when I don't have the time to sit and fully relax. I can light one up and don't mind if I forget about it or chomp down.

Have no complaints, esp about cost and smokability ( yes not a word )
for the price,( less than a buck ), I figured I cannot go wrong for a daily smoke,, I sit around with a glass of bourbon or Fireball whiskey,, Is it the best smoke, no but I cannot afford much anymore,, are they a bit rough and get hangers you have to burn to even out, Yes,, does this bother me NOPE,, once Demi Moore was put on Cigar Aficionado magazine prices went sky high,,, I love Punch cigars, when I can afford them. One thing to me cuz my BIL in law does it, smoke them like a chimney and everything gets hot, then he throws them away and complains ( not just these) I also smoke a corn cob pipe , which is way cheaper.

Average
The General Grant cigarillos are average at best. They don't have a distinct flavor, but not a bad flavor. They tend to go out quickly. But other than that not a bad cigarillo. Would have to say i won't buy them twice. Comes in a collectible box though.
4 out of 5
great value
i really enjoy smoking these. you get a lot of flavor out of them and do not feel you are smoking your money away even though you are.

Buy a box? Yeah-with foreknowledge of the vagaries of these sticks
As one of the lucky folks who get to work virtually, I don't have to abide by no-smoking rules...I'm the only one in my office and Perla, my dachshund office mate hasn't barked an opinion one way or another (besides, I'd bribe her with treats. PRO So, I can smoke these little guys whenever I chose, mostly when write emails. They have a great taste and a very pleasant nose; use them between pipe loads as a "palette cleanser" The quality of the leaf that goes into the General Grant is above average for this price point and the Sumatra leaf seems to be used throughout...filler/binder/wrapper...and I would grade these more toward a Maduro dusky. CON Hand-made, huh? Whose hands? Newbies? Soon-to-be-retired? Being quite urbane in wording, the BEST i can say is that each cigar is unique OR there is no consistency OR are these made while the QC department is drunk. If there was some semblance of uniformity across the box, I'd give these little pleasures 5 stars. I'm knocking off two stars--1 because of the wild variance between sticks in quality of roll, quantity of tobacco and 1 because of how much I have to cut off the end of every other stick to ensure I get a decent draw. Would I recommend you buy a box--yeah, I would. Just keep the downside issues mentioned above in mind. Even with the offsets, they have a good underlying value.

Cheap, but not worth buying again
I have gone through several of these cigars, and I have had a difficult time getting a good draw from any of them. Most of them don't even stay lit

The General
When I bought my box of General Grant cigars I knew I was buying a cheap cigar. One that I'd smoke tinkering in my shop or working in the yard. I had tried The Mark Twain and the were good for the purpose so I decided to try the Grants. I want a shorter smoke than with the Mark Twain. I was pleasantly surprised to find them to be better than expected. The taste is more than expected and is pleasant, with not a lot of after taste. The cigar has a good burn and I did not have to relight it. On a scale of 1-5, I would give it a 4, understanding it's not a top shelf stogie. I will buy more.

Consistant machine made with excellent Sumatra wrapper.
I've tried all major cigar brands over the past 30 years and aside from the Punch, Romeo & Juliet, and Partagas at 8 to 10 times the cost, this is the only cigar I smoke. General Grant is a slightly crude machine made with excellent Sumatra wrapper. Good draw and good burn.

Perfect Work Cigar
This is now my "go to" work cigar. Not the smoothest smoke I've ever have but certainly not the worst. I've gone thru the entire first box of these and not a single bad burner in the bunch. If you're looking for a "bite the end off and light it" type 20 minute smoke, try the General Grant Corona...I'll definitely be buying more of these.

Never with out
I actually like these alot, every now and then a few do go out 30sec after a draw. But what i reallly love to do with these is let them sit in coffee grounds. Makes for such a wonderful smoke, they are pretty strong imo but such a great smoke

Not for the Faint of Heart
Good old codger stogies. Not for a newbie cigar smoker. General Grant was a little rough around the edges and so are these little gems. I smoke them down to the last inch and I would not call them mild. Love the little wood box they come in.
3 out of 5
General Grant was tough
Some of the cigars did not draw well at all and were a bit strong but overall it was a comfortable smoke
3 out of 5
not as happy
well...I will say these are ok..not what I was looking for in a inexpensive cigar
1 out of 5
Disappointing
Really did not like the General Grant Minis. Most were rolled too tight; they were difficult to keep lit and were not as mild as I had anticipated. Also the box the cigars came in was flimsy and had to be discarded. I am a casual cigar smoker and had hopped for better; very disappointing.

Great Small Cigar
This cigar was on back order when I tried to buy it, it was worth the wait. This cigar gives you the full flavor you need when you don't have an hour to enjoy and the price can not be beat. Very good.

A good place to start
I was very glad to find these I love coronas. They are the perfect size and these are so affordable. I'm a civil war buff as well as a cigar enthusiast. U.S. grant is one of my hero's I hope these will always be avalible they have a decent flavor not to mild but not to strong my brand from now on
3 out of 5
Not the best little cigar...but not the worst either...
General Grants come in a nice little box of 30 individually wrapped cigars. The taste is not the best, but far from the worst. The first half of the cigar is is decent smoke and then it just gets down right harsh...pretty tough on the tongue. I personally wouldn't smoke them every day; but some of the guys in our shop take them with coffee in the morning and don't seem to mind them for breakfast.

Great buy!
I have to admit, these are the first cigars I've bought from Pipes and Cigars, and am VERY pleased with my purchase. These cigars are excellent everyday smokes and am already looking forward to buying more in the future.

Great Value!
A nice short smoke for doing the lawn, painting around the house when you don't have time to sit and savor with a good single malt. The price is right and the smoke mild.
5 out of 5
Great bargain!
These cigars are the best for the money I have found! I have smoked many expensive cigars that have not satisfied me nearly as much. I go through at least a box of these a month. Probably more like a box and a half.
Customer Testimonials
Good cigar. Nice taste, held together and had a good burn. I am really pleased with this cigar and it has a great price. if they are consistent with the product I will be getting more.
DW of Mogadore, OH
The old addage "You get what you pay for" holds up here. Cigars seem even smaller than a standard Corona, factory-made smoke quality, ash falls immediately. As cigars continue their increase in price, I am constantly in search of decent value cigars to smoke around the yard. This one is not it. Better, bigger, tastier cigars are available on this site. The best thing about this cigar is the box it came in. My little boy loves it.
MN of Bow, NH
Not a full time cigar smoker, mainly pipes. But, I bought these for the old school style, hoping for old school flavor. Style and flavor didn't disappoint. It's a nice cigar, medium in flavor, pretty consistent through out. Only slightly strong/harsh at the nub. Perfect size for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor. A good leaf is used, despite the price. The downside - construction. I full third of the box basically fell apart shortly after lighting, maybe got 1/4 to 1/3 and it just fell to pieces. Construction isn't great, but even with that said it's still a good value and I'd buy again. On construction -- they all drew well et cetera. Just issues with the binder/wrapper falling apart. I will also say, that I haven't experienced any construction issues as I wrapped up the box. Maybe some extra time in the humidor gave it time to bind together better? Not sure.
TS of Tulsa, OK
Excellent everyday cigar. Fantastic price. Nice mild cigar with great draw. Construction could be better but for the price I won't complain.
